How do we help, Barbara? I have children, grandchildren and great grand children who all think that Trump is great and will not listen to me at all. I am surrounded by Staunch Republican neighbors, and only know one person who agrees with me, but we both keep our opinions quiet because it is literally not safe to voice them. Any suggestions?
That must be a difficult situation. I would seek out an organization such as the League of Women Voters or ask your trusted neighbor whom she confides in and make a little group to meet once a month and analyze the Trump agenda. It does help to have some support for what YOU think. Have you heard of Braver Angels? -- they give tools for dialogue between red and blue. Also if you are really brave, just ask what one of your neighbors sees in Trump that is so positive and listen politely. The bedrock is usually racism, fear of any differences (immigrants), trashing the "woke" (reevaluating our "history") agenda. Best of luck and courage.
Barbara, I appreciate your response, but you do not understand at all. This is Republican territory! Period! People around here would not care what either candidate thinks- it is Republican! When my parents were dividing property, they had well over 170 guns. My sister and brother were Republicans and I was not. As a result, I was given 2 guns, with them knowing full well that I had 3 children. I had to give up the one pistol I owned to make sure that my children did not know what jerks my parents were. Stop telling me how to fix it because you DO NOT UNDERSTAND! I am 75 years old and it has not changed since I was a child. It never will, and I will not be moving again, so it is what it is.
How does a democracy flourish when one party, of a two party system, wants to get rid of the other? That seems what the next administration wants. I have fear for our country, and for the future generations that we will have let down.
I know it must be a hassle to sit down and record these podcasts. I really appreciate it. I can (and do) read but hearing you "tell it" brings your messaging to a new level. Thanks.
I am a veteran from the post-Vietnam "New Army". There were a few guys like Pete Hegseth left in the service when I joined, guys who would pick on and make life difficult for other soldiers. Most like that left because there just wasn't the stomach for that from most GIs. Such a guy would never have made sergeant let alone officer. How could a line GI respect this guy? Would you die/kill for such a character?
Just to remind everyone that he cheated (see gregpalast.com Vigilantes video), I sent this URL to several Democratic party web addresses and friends prior to the election. No one did anything. 1 million persons were removed from the voter rolls in TX and over 770,000 in GA. Other red states did similar cleanups. I am sure that the voter lists came from The Heritage Foundation.
