Politicians seem to have the right to lie; they call it free speech. But when “news” channel staff repeat the lies, they should be sued—especially if they have been warned. Tie them up in lawsuits.

They don't "call it free speech" it IS free speech as defined by the founders/framers of our nation including Jefferson, Adams and Madison. News channels REPORT the comments, they don't state them as their beliefs, and their JOB is to report what is said. Any lawsuits against the "fourth estate" for these kinds of actions will be almost immediately dismissed and you may find yourself on the end of a very expensive legal bill assessed against you by the court for bringing a frivolous action.

Weeellll, Fox certainly got dinged for lying about Dominion!

Yeah, but first, that was a civil suit brought by Dominion, not a governmental attempt to charge Fox with some criminal act like sedition. Second, it was a corporate act in a media outlet. That is very different from individual quotes by politicians. If Trump made the same comments that Fox News did (and he has), he would never be held liable for any damages, because individual free speech rights are significantly more extensive than corporate.

I was responding to the notion that 'they should be sued', which is all the comment proposed.

I like "punched in the nose" better. Makes me feel better. Yeah.. I feel better already, having said that. But, right now, I've got 2 moorings I need to drop right out front, here on the Kennebec, before the river gets icey.

Dinged? Haahaa... for that Faux operation, it was merely the price of the ride. Chump-change in the billion-dollar world we're in today. When a normal house on the street owned by Jack Nicholson (reportedly) sells for $50,000,000 and the family of Saud takes a dump in a golden toilet..? $80,000,000 hardly rings a bell. Just the same, if you'll pardon me, "flush hard - it's a long way to mar-ah-laygo."

Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News = $787 million settlement paid by Fox. Does require attorney fees, but I didn’t read if Dominion’s outside counsel was on retainer, had a contingent fee arrangement or some sort of hybrid fee.
