I think we are speaking at cross purposes here. I am NOT defending the filibuster. I think you are perhaps purposely muddying the waters. All I am saying is that, if you are enough of a political animal that re-election is more important to you than principles and maintaining the filibuster is essential to your re-election, then you are Joe Manchin.

Joe Manchin? He is really a Republican in disguise. He has lost the GOP and does not realize it.

The last time I looked West Virginia needed help, lots of it.

Yes, I have run for the office of Selectman in a little town in New Hampshire 6 different times. Winning the election was important but never more important than figuring out how to solve community problems. It was a great job with very little money involved in a non-partisan town. It was fun and it was great to have the opportunity to help he community and the people in it.

But Manchin is, nonetheless, what we have to work with. And he did, after all, vote for the recovery bill. A Republican wouldn't have.
