It's a new way folks here try to marginalize others with whom they don't agree.

You're correct - it's the same tired way of signalling posts one doesn't approve but just with a new buzz-word.

Disagree is diff than disapprove. Hope we get back to HCR topics today.

ThatтАЩs the whole point. It deflects real conversation about substance and changes the subject. I fall for it myself, often, and vow to do better.

Keep that vow Kathy. Cheers!

You are plenty strong. Dig in!

I have got to go and won't be back until the end of week. There is absolute certainty/stubbornness in front of you. We were inundated with three trolls in April, perhaps part of March and May. This character, initials DC, was one of them. One subscriber thought he could outsmart them and was obsessed with the mission. A few others naively joined in. It's worth an effort to try to educate William. Good luck. See you Friday or Saturday. Cheerio.

Independent thinker, here. Re-education is not my thing and attempts to do so will not result in your happiness.

Rather than generalize people entirely, based on a few snippets posted here, perhaps consider the veracity of their ideas as confined to specific topics? No need to make sweeping generalizations about folks as a means to subvert them, their presence here or their ideas.

You insult yourself by telling me how to think and behave, while accusing me of subverting people. It is unfortunate that you opened with an attack, thereby subverting a dialogue. So it goes....

Fern, I would not worry about you trying to subvert people. You seem pretty open minded to me as well as a bright, well balanced person.

I know that I appreciate your comments and applaud your positive attitude.

Fern thank you for the welcome. Florida is a different place for me. It has some very interesting sights and scenes. Its politics are strange to me and I am still trying to figure them out.

These letters from Heather's letters and the replies are pretty interesting. I have to think them through before replying. I need to put some space between myself and a quick answer. It is so good to read so many positive replies.

Joe, I take your point about putting space between ourselves and a quick answer. It is a lesson for me. Sometimes, instead of replying or disagreeing, I just walk on by. Argument is worthwhile after some reflection and without rancor. Cheers!

Joe, Your kindness was very welcome. Thank you. It's an oven here in NYC. I hope your weather is OK and that you have a very good day.

Fern, we live in Clearwater, Florida. It is in the 90's, rains in the evening with thunder and lightening as the encore events of a storm.

I come from Bristol, NH poputlation 3053 and now live in a state with 21 million souls. Talk about culture shock?

I am reading the Family Act. It is where we belong .Joe Biden and kamala are very courageous people. They are bright, articulate hard working people doing a tough job for America.

Welcome to Florida Joe. I live a few miles south in St Petersburg.

I appreciated your weather report and geographic locations. I hiked and climbed in NH, The Appalachia Trail (Presidential Range), Mt. Washington, Mt. Willard and Franconia Notch Ridge trail. I cannot count the number of times I was on all fours. How beautiful it was. Those were great, great days. My back has started to hurt tells you where I am these days. Cheers!

It is not wise to falsely accuse, and I am referring to you. We are familiar with the troll that here today. He and two others disturbed the forum in April. You are not now dealing with superficial, shallow or inexperienced person. You are the one who is generalizing and chooses not to learn from our experiences.

Expand full comment

When the troll trail gets so long, I think have to leave the forum, then realize that is their goal. Onward in ignoring!

Expand full comment

Sometime though the troll can force us to think more widely and clearly about complicated issues. I say listen and refine your arguments but ignore him after a certain point -- when it no longer benefits you to argue.

Expand full comment

I say it is better to pass them by. If one makes a point that interests you, why not think it out and comment yourself separate from the 'intruder'? Each contact they make earns them points. More join them if the site is marked as rich in takers. Our April Forum was no place to be as they practically took over the site. Subscribers who do not identify what they may be attracted to having a debate, cry censorship or if recognized for who they are may attract a subscriber eager to beat them at their game. There is not winning with a troll.

Okay. Thanks. I have no idea how this works so I'll take your advice.

Exactly, Cathy. I am very behind in work, but I am glad that I'll be away for several days. Occasionally, the trolls aren't the only problem.

Simply posting "plop" is devoid of context and content and seems to be only a negative code-word designed to alienate someone. This contrasts with well-considered debate and and disagreement.

But, yes, getting back on topic is good ;)
