We *may* have seen Joe's physical stamina ebb, on a bad day or so for him. There is no 'ebb' however in his truth and honor Ned and for me anyway, that's what counts and will always count. Thanks, D4N. As to whether he should retire. The President has earned the dignity of making up his own mind. I do not know what the President should do; either way I will trust his decision. Like you, I believe Dr Biden would never let her husband be set up for humiliating failure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI5GWz7BhFo
Well, she clearly is doing precisely that. Biden has about 1% chance of winning this election (it will indeed be a miracle if he pulls it off) because the battle is NOT for all the like-minded people like us who live in the coastal states and northeast, but in the six or seven swing states which will decide the election, and the consensus there is Biden is done. Look at the polls. Harris outpolls Biden in the swing states by 5-6 points. And that is DESPITE her potential disadvantages.
Everyone who wants to stick their head in the sand about Biden's ability to lead are just playing fantasy games with themselves. Elections are about the future, not the past, and the litany of hosannahs for Biden's last 3-1/2 years means little. Sure, he has done terrific things, no argument, I voted for him in 2020 and will again if I have no other choice, but that doesn't mean he will win. I understand the challenge and it lies in convincing a few hundred thousand voters in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada that Biden is still worth considering, and the polls suggest that just isn't going to happen. Even Kamala (who is my senator in California and I think she is awesome) will get more votes than Biden in those states, although it is not clear if that is enough. Gretchen Whitmer also outpolls Biden. Then again so do almost ALL of the potential Dem candidates (Booker, Shapiro, Newsome, etc.)
So WHY would we want to run Biden again when the likelihood is near-certain loss? Are all Democrats just too afraid to say to someone, "hey, we liked you and voted for you but now its time to go"?
! ".... stick their head in the sand..." How dare you ! How dare you to even consider that "only you, and some numbers" are more wise and considerate than others, like I who feel otherwise ! I'd like to buy your azz for what you're worth, and sell it for what you 'think' it's worth - wise azz !!!
I disagree. If President Biden is up to the job, I believe he will win; close, but a victory all the same. I think people will come to see him as I do: older, yes, but with the wisdom and experience to compensate. Much like the over-the-hill pitcher who refines the subtlety of his craft to keep taking the mound on a hot summer's evening.
Yes, but ultimately except for maybe Satchel Paige, when the elderly over the hill pitcher doesn't have it anymore (and to me, Biden clearly doesn't have it) its time to give the ball to a younger relief pitcher.
It's our (Democrats') best chance to win.
And I sincerely regret any offense, but there are SO MANY people who seem to be lost in some Biden "idolatry" and aren't willing to entertain ANY thought that they might be wrong.
Election day will bring the shocking news to them, I think. Sorry that we disagree and I hope all of you come to your senses before it is too late :(. I too and a devoted Democrat for 50+ years, so this doesn't make me happy. In fact it makes me very very sad.
Thank you for the apology. This is an emotionally charged issue, so I can get flapped out easily. I trust President Biden, together with Dr Biden, to make the right decision. As to what I think.
First it does not really matter what I think. Second, I really do not know enough about the situation to make up my mind. I was disappointed when President Biden announced he would run again. But that was then and today is now.
The debate performance was discouraging and people have to face that fact. If the President should retire, there will be plenty of time, even allowing for an open convention, to get the word out through the social and mass media.

It sure seems that way, sigh.

Yes, I was put off, too.
