I love what you said, Kem. I think Amy Klobuchar should run for president. We need a strong and seasoned candidate who is under 65. She is 62. AND she reflects our values. Win-win.

Many of us here in Indiana love "Mayor Pete" -- smart, articulate, ground-breaking (gay gov. official and adoptive parent of twins), courageous, military experience. I hope he has good security. But his protection drives a bright blue electric car. He wants to make the entire federal fleet electric. https://cleantechnica.com/2021/10/23/u-s-transportation-secretary-pete-buttigiegs-security-details-drives-a-ford-mustang-mach-e/

Amy on the presidential campaign was either not well-advised or very nervous. She often missed the chance to be direct, instead repeating too often her slogans and lists of accomplishments. Buttigieg would certainly be a great counterpoint to her in that regard, and both are for people. That said, I want her to remain in the Senate.

Ally, I have a question for you unrelated to this thread. If I recall correctly, you are retired LE? I wonder what some makes LE folks (and military) so susceptible to Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, etc.

I cannot claim a great deal of any study/statistics/hard information, just 35 years of observation. That said, many people are drawn to the profession of arms with a stated goal of service to community. Some are drawn to the perception of being the “authority” (many of these are, in my limited experience, either weeded out in the application/hire process or fail to make a probationary period due to “unsuitability”.)

Some are drawn to the concept of keeping order, and I believe that those people tend to be of a more conservative mindset. I think that those people who are conservative, committed to keeping order, and who are comfortable in those roles may find that the groups you’ve mentioned meet a (perceived) need for more order and control offer them a place to “belong.”
