I cannot claim a great deal of any study/statistics/hard information, just 35 years of observation. That said, many people are drawn to the profession of arms with a stated goal of service to community. Some are drawn to the perception of being the “authority” (many of these are, in my limited experience, either weeded out in the application/hire process or fail to make a probationary period due to “unsuitability”.)

Some are drawn to the concept of keeping order, and I believe that those people tend to be of a more conservative mindset. I think that those people who are conservative, committed to keeping order, and who are comfortable in those roles may find that the groups you’ve mentioned meet a (perceived) need for more order and control offer them a place to “belong.”
