Seems that there was no shortage of insurrectionists ready to forget our founding fathers’s Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution. Power rules the fools. And yet, the MSM and rank and file republicans still consider them legitimate political actors. Anyone doubt that propaganda works and that a majority of our citizenry are primed to embrace fascism. Article in Dallas Morning News suggested that the Texas republican platform is gaining support. The end of our way of life may be closer than most suspect…. Although the Jan 6 committee is fighting with all it’s might. Wish HCR missives had the reach of Fox

Jeri,

The problem with America is, of course, not Trump, but, Americans.

You are right.

Years of drinking beer while sitting on arse, watching Survivor, The Apprentice, football, stupid movies, and, well, watching TV and wasting time posting pictures of their dog on facebook has left Americans without even a hint of the trappings of critical thought necessary to support the Democracy John Adams granted us after reading a MOUNTAIN of stuff including the entire works of Edward Coke.

Who, in America today, even knows who Edward Coke is??

Aren’t you an American, Mike? I know plenty of beer drinking Americans that enjoy Survivor and their dogs and their guns that voted for Biden.

The “problem” with America is that the rule of law and precedent is being trashed. That alone undermines authority greatly and allows tyranny to rule.

Salud 🗽

I did not know who Coke was until you mentioned him! Now I know who he was but have not read him. Another ignorant American?

Get ready - Margaret Attwood's books are very prescient - Handmaid's tale and (once you have read that) Testaments. I'm sure de Santis (and maybe Abbot) would love to follow that concept.

I heard Atwood interviewed in Saint Paul, MN, after "Oryx and Crake" came out (which I highly recommend along with the other dystopian novels Hugh names). She talked about the research she did for that and other books, especially involving looking at what happens to nations that, like the US with 9/11, experience a grave shock. She said nations tended to respond to that kind of shock by moving toward authoritarianism. She looked at the audience that night with the intensity of her light blue eyes and said, "Watch out." I am haunted by that moment. Here we are.

As far as MSM goes, fascism sells advertising space. And advertising space and eyeball engagement are the factors in The Perfect Equation for the greedy. Who’s narrative sells more ad space? Who’s willing to lie and misinform to sell ad space? It turns out, ,most of the sites we get our “News” from could care less about an informed public, rather than the $$$$ from advertising space. Remember that when you wonder why the Truth can’t seem to break through.
