Why do we cling to patriarchy when it is NOT serving us? I have thought about this question a lot and all I can come up with is questions. Is it humans' continued cultural mis-interpretation of religious doctrine in various epochs/factions? This seems to be so not just in christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism but somewhat across the board. Even though women are pronounced "spiritually equal" to men in scripture of most significant religions, there are factions and times throughout history where this is not so in practice, which displace that doctrinal clarity for a time or faction. Cultural acceptance of "bread winner", "stronger", "better memory" - (yup in some cases in Islamic Law Women’s testimony is sometimes valued less in legal contexts due to perceived differences in memory reliability, similarly on Christianity/ Judaism: Eve’s creation and the Fall; or when Paul instructs women to remain silent in churches and learn from their husbands at home, further emphasizing male authority). So, I ask, not mansplain;. is it this phenomenon across religions that underlies and prolongs this WRONG state of in-equality? And what path are we on, repeated cultural aberration or slow enlightenment out of historical darkness?

Interesting post and questions. People are not willing to give up their power, position, authority, or blood line. When any group but the ones who consider themselves superior gains power, then in their minds, it means an incredible loss of status. For example, many white people were absolutely disgusted that Obama became president. Likewise, the history of the subjugation of women is very long. I always recommend the book, Eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven for an idea of how the Church (meaning here historically, the Catholic Church) approached sex. . In the Garden of Eden everything is fine until Adam and Eve discover that they have a gender. This is, of course, blamed on the woman. There is a tale, from one of the far eastern religions which relates that a bunch of spirits were running around having a grand time and then they discovered sex and all hell broke loose. Got to control those women because who knows what they will do otherwise.
