I believe the brass (from colonel up, say) are, with few exceptions, reliably loyal to the Constitution, but I question your assertion when it comes to the rank and file. You might be right about veterans who had to fight in stupid wars, but those on active duty in safe places are another matter. Do you believe, TC, that a majority of active-duty personnel from, say, lieutenant colonel down are “not Trumpers,” as you put it?

There are particular units in the Army - the "special ops" - where a tendency to be "wannabe" Waffen-SS may be strong, but still the majority of the regular Army believe in their oaths. I still believe from what friends who know the force say that the ranks are not "Trumpy." In fact, in 2020, the Trump vote in the military was down 40 percent from what it was in 2016.

At the risk of unreasonably belaboring this topic, a Military Times article from Nov 7, 2020, cites exit polls showing a 52-45 edge in voting for Trump over Biden. If that’s 40% down from 2016, then the 2016 Trump vote in the military would have been over 85%. The 52% figure is not as bad as I thought it might have been, but the 85% is worse than I would have expected. I have limited contact with military people now (never had a lot, but did have some, mostly commissioned officers who were students or research scientists/engineers), but I often see estimates saying things lije 90% of TV hours on military bases showing Fox, which is beyond worrisome if true.

The following is copied fom the MT article from Nov 7, 2020:

“Exit polling from Edison Research (which surveyed voters who cast ballots in person and by mail) indicated that military and veteran voters were more supportive of Trump (52 percent) than Biden (45 percent).”
