For a campaign that started in Waco Texas celebrating David Koresh, and ends in the Capitol Rotunda, with all the owners of every media outlet, lined up at the troff at his side, broken beaten, but happy to receive their tax cuts and a piece of the empire, and all of the world leaders that hate democracy by their side, where he promises to release the most violent people that attacked the constitution at that very spot, seems like a pretty clear flex to me, that violence, treason and sedition pays well, and democracy dies not in the dark, but in plain sight. It marks a day alright.. Mission Accomplished?

Have not heard that song since I was a kid, but relevant. There is hope though, states have power.

MAGA has no idea what they have brought to our country, nor do they understand that we may not survive this thief, and his merry band of millionaires. What they will not get is what he has promised in order to get their vote.

Another pandemic threatening. Prices that will go up along with is tariffs. Derision from every other free country on the planet. But worst of all, making this fool and his money mongers appear to be normal. What have we taught our children?

Can Democracy survive?

Right said Fred on a number of fronts.

1) His based was fleeced, just like the members of the other businesses that he ran and bankrupted. Oh and it is actually billionaires for the most part, a number of them the richest men on the planet. Oligarchy is never a good thing. These folks have little regard for the common man and will feed themselves.

2) Despite the political spin, tariffs are taxes on those who import, meaning our companies. so yes prices will go up as they pass the cost of doing business down the supply chain. The real reason for the tariffs is to offset the revenue lost by tax breaks for the wealthy that are coming. Replaces the lost revenue in government coffers.

I respect the gravity of many issues, but I feel predatory business practices against consumers is huge & under-reported. I've been aware of some cost manipulation, but did not realize this could be targeted at individuals. I wonder if this had anything to do with the last item I purchased going from an estimated $40-50 to $70 or more. There is a lot to understand about how technology is being used & we need to have the information to do that. I am glad for what I learn here.

Ever since Ronnie Raygun took office, the country has turned favor to oligarchy. The rich have gotten richer using any vile means of giving it to those who can least afford it. It's highway robbery, robber barons and snake oil salesmen gone complete amuck. It has saturated this country, us, the Americans, who are their guinea pigs, and we let them continue. How? By continuing to put the wrong class of people in Congress. Those who are strictly in it for themselves and those who do not have a spine to fight back and do what's right.

The malingering Orange Felon will be reoccupying the WH tomorrow. I really and truly hope this will be a lesson for those who chose to put this despicable Orange Cancer in a place he has no business being. I'm fully aware that we, who didn't vote for him, will be getting hit with this, too. And, as much as we've tried to teach the Right the error of their ways, they have refused to listen. "My mind's made up; don't bother me with the facts." This leaves us with no other way to get their attention but to tell them all, "I told you so!" Then give them all a huge plate of crow.

You nailed it. Trickle down economics was just PR code for give the money to the rich and see if they help others, which of course never happened. The early 80s saw a big change in corporate America, In the corporate suite it had always been "make money for the company and the workers." It changed dramatically to "return value to stockholders." Which translates to starve the workers. Over the decades you have seen the inequity grow.

The incoming administration will definitely exacerbate the inequity with proposed policies. For the first time in my 66 years on the planet I fear for our country.

I read Dr Richardson's Letters everyday and thought it would be nice when I was busy in the morning to listen to it as I sometimes do with Robert Hubbell on Substack. I thought the recording would arrive with the Letter. By the time the recording comes in the afternoon I have long ago read it. As a result, Could you please stop sending it to my inbox anymore. Thanks you for your time.

It takes going to the Substack website in a browser, (not where I am now in the app), to manage subscriptions. Going to my account, then this subscription, there is a toggle for emails for both the letters & the podcast. I think I probably unsubscribed from within my email, because I wait for the podcast to show up in the app. So, you can probably shut if off both ways. I wait until later or the next day now, because I prefer the podcast. It's still plenty timely along with being thorough!

To Heather Cox. are there at least several good books detailing the history as to how we ended up where we are today, in terms of economic policy, revisionist history, the role Hollywood played, etc.? Thanks for the reading list in advance.

If the MAGA faithful want to come in out of the cold all they have to is bust their way in they way did on 6 January 2021. Instead, we find Steve Bannon (the same guy who declared war on Elon Musk a few days ago) giving the keynote speech at the dinner and gala hosted by Marc Andreessen called the Coronation Ball at the Watergate Hotel for “luminaries from across the New Right”. It seems that tech titans have won and the 'old luminaries' will have to accept this if they want to come in out of the cold. On the crypto scam, it's interesting that the meme coin's website includes a disclaimer: “Trump Memes are intended to function as an expression of support for, and engagement with, the ideals and beliefs embodied by the symbol “$TRUMP” and the associated artwork, and are not intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type.
