I think that there is more than one way to configure a reasonably just society, but I also think that there is something else going on in the statistics you cite that is there along side the ownership of property, among them the definition of what ownership means and what citizen responsibilities to society and human rights means. For example, the percentage of all of the US owned by the 1% has increased dramatically under "Republican" policies. There is little tracking of how this impacts the remaining 99% or the prospect of "liberty and justice for all". Between the "Gilded Age" and Reagan, there were efforts to make commerce less predatory, much of which have been rolled back since. As you indicate, Germany seems to be doing things in some ways differently, and countries such as Finland and Norway report greater public satisfaction in what appears to be a less predatory way of doing business.
