I think that kids show the rudiments of empathy from much earlier, but they don't have much context based on experience, and in the earliest months, I think they are focused on their own own experience exclusively to learn and survive. I recall our scoot-crawling being told she would hurt the cat by pulling its tail (and ornery cat put up with it as she never would if we rubbed her the wrong way). I have never detected a flicker of empathy in Trump. Weird how many are drawn to, even worship that.
