HCR is, by far, the most clear-eyed and honest broker of, not just American history, but the current truth of our American experience. She will be high on any list of enemies of the fascists. WE must protect her. We can do this by our vocal support. The would-be oligarchs and Trumpists fear our power. This will play out so IF we stick together and act as WE. As rugged individualists, as the rich want us to believe we are, we will become victims. Together, as democracies are meant to be, WE will prevail. Alone, we are drops in a bucket. Together, WE are a deluge that cannot be resisted. The authoritarians fear this. Watch them and you will see.

Might have to wait a long time. While I agree that reactive forces always die out, it can take forever. If you're not willing to wait, then vote for Trump to foment the revolution, a la Marx. THEN they will fear "us." Your current strategy they laugh at.

I am among those who cancelled my subscription to Washington Post. I applaud and honor those journalists and editors who choose to leave once trusted outlets as resigning is the act of resistance they can take.

I used to think that the act of preemptively conceding to authoritarians was primarily done out of fear. I'm disgusted and worried now that organizations in media spaces (LA Times and Washington Post being two high profile, immediate examples) as well as those in other domains may be instead "conceding" because of the financial and power-consolidation benefits their leadership expect to accrue.

The money hoarders are the real threat. The greedy capitalist money hoarders are more than willing to sacrifice a democracy that could hold them accountable, for an authoritarian oligarchy that they control.

Boo to the Washington Post and the

Fear for his safety but more for money. Bezos is in line for a multibillion dollar contract with the government. If he allowed the endorsement of Harris and Trump wins, he can kiss that contract goodbye. I guess the current billions he has isn't enough. So, not just a coward but a greedy, self serving coward who doesn't give a damn about the country.

The Journalists are to be commended for their bravery to assemble the proposed Harris endorsement. It is the billionaire owners of WaPo and LATimes that are behind this. They have virtually no interest in Journalistic Integrity, just the ego of owning the pipeline of (mis) information distribution.

They rightly won't endorse Harris because the democrats have become the party of war, big business and censorship. When they call Trump a Fascist, it's blatant projection - the pot calling the kettle black. The Washington Post is correct not to endorse the party that has left democracy behind in its fervor to serve the needs of the global elite.

Ten days ago, I was traveling through Logan Airport while being pushed towards the plane by the wheelchair assistant. As we were waiting in the holding room, I looked up into her open, intelligent, brown face and began to chat. She was a naturalized immigrant from an African country. I said: " Are you excited?", totally assuming that she would be voting for Kamala Harris whom she looked like. Her face scrounged up and I immediately read that she was voting for Trump. With obvious surprise I asked her why. She said she wanted to start her own business and he was a good business man. I spontaneously said, but he has gone bankrupt so many times. She clearly did not know. I then told her about Heather Cox Richardson's letter from an American. She immediately pulled out her phone and googled Heather. I saw she had found it. I urged her to read these writings from a History Professor. She promised she would. I continued to tell her about myself and how I came to the US in 1971 with $10.- in my pocket, became a business woman and became well-off and always supported the democrats. We continued talking about the importance of getting a good education and that she would be getting more help for that and for starting up a business from a Democratic administration than a Republican and especially from Kamala Harris. She promised to study it all, continue her education and inform herself. We fist bumped and said goodbye warmly. I like to think that I changed a vote. I must say that I try to avoid bringing up politics to strangers, but this experience gave me courage to do more. I had another conversation with a friend of mine who was going to sit it out. I am not sure if I convinced her.

Bring back “the Washington Star” as rebranded to promote small-d democracy (and specifically not to promote partisan politics or political parties). It could still endorse candidates for office as WaPo has done for almost 50 years, but only as opinion based on the candidates respective merits and flaws. This could give Bezos some competition. Meanwhile boycott Amazon, not WaPo.

Expand full comment

Thanks for thinking about this with me. Bringing back competition is certainly a good idea. But my larger point is that we need a non-profit local national network as a base for a national public competitor to the the big capitalist operations. Local news is now non-existent or in the hands of large corporations such as Gannett or worse.

undergraduate newspapers are breaking important stories about the goings-on on their campuses. Lots of good work and important learning happening. But to your larger point, yes, the collapse of journalistic infrastructure is horrible. Perhaps we need a cooperatively owned and operated model rather than a non-profit per se.

Yes, cooperatively owned. That sounds good. What seems essential to me is to use the possibilities of networking and IT to harness people to real journalism ... and, in an honest social mission, to each other...

A VOTE FOR KAMALA HARRIS IS A VOTE FOR WAR.

Dick Cheney, the driving force behind the Iraq War that killed more than one million human beings, endorsed Kamala Harris. Why? Because she is beholden to the war machine that thrives on conflict and chaos, no matter the cost to American lives or global stability.

Recent events paint a clear and alarming picture. Israel is expected to hit military targets inside Iran; China’s President Xi is ordering his troops to prepare for war; North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong-un, has blown up vital roads and railways, isolating his nation for whatever comes next; and there are reports NATO is considering arming Ukraine with nuclear weapons, bringing the threat of global conflict to our doorstep.

The world is on the brink, and Kamala is ready to drag us right into it.

Under Kamala’s leadership, the same failed policies of intervention and military expansion will continue. She stands with the defense contractors and corporate elites who profit from conflict while American families pay the price.

But there is a path to peace—and it starts with electing President Trump and sending Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to DC.

Together, they are the only ones willing to stand up to these entrenched interests and stop the Military-Industrial Complex from dragging us into devastating wars. RFK Jr. will bring a new voice to the administration, working alongside President Trump to dismantle the war machine that Kamala is ready to empower.

With war looming and only days left, we need your help to stop Kamala and her military-industrial backers. The clock is ticking.

President Trump is the only candidate willing to stand up to these powerful forces and fight for peace. He will not bow to the war machine, and with RFK Jr. at his side, he will ensure that our country is not pulled into a catastrophic conflict.

Time is running out. The future of peace is in our hands.

A huge number of us life-long Democrats approve this message from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Uh, I think RFK Jr. is nuts and oh, he’s not running….. this sounds like more Russian disinformation (or you have drunk the propaganda potion).

No, he's not running, due to his being censored by the Democrats and the media, in direct violation of the constitution. However, he is on Trump's transition team and will be a close advisor to the President, should Trump be elected. Before you make up your mind about his sanity, I would encourage you to read any of his books, which are all meticulously researched and filled with factual citations. He is a brilliant man and has great personal integrity. Those who dare to speak the truth are often considered crazy or heretical. Take Galileo, for instance...

Do you have a sense that Trump will stand up to Putin? I am concerned that he is interested in standing shoulder to shoulder with Putin, Kim Jong Un, Xi, and Netanyahu.

Expand full comment

Good question, Juliana. Fierce wild animals like bears and mountain lions will normally slink away when they hear people coming. Unless you get between them and their young, or between them and food, they mostly don't want to have anything to do with you. They want to be left alone. But if you corner them, they will fight, because they're threatened. Putin, Kim Jong Un, and likely Xi and Netanyahu are cornered. They have no choice but to fight because of the military aggression they feel they're up against. You have to stand next to someone if you want to have a dialog with them. He won't be shoulder to shoulder so he can help them do whatever they want to do. He'll be face to face so they will feel safe enough that they can retract their claws, sit down and talk about it.

Trump and RFK Jr. want to give them space, talk with them and use diplomacy so that they don't feel so cornered that they have to fight. They want to de-escalate what's going on in so many corners of the world that is bringing us to the brink of nuclear war, and bankrupting our country.

The democrats used to be the party of peace. They called Dick Cheney Darth Vadar. He is a war profiteer and architect of the Iraq war that killed a million people. Now Harris has earned and is accepting Cheney's endorsement. What does that say about her? The dems have changed beyond recognition, and those of us who want peace look to Trump, who in his four years, was the only president in recent memory who didn't take the country to war.

If that weren't enough he and his unprecedented coalition want to end the chronic disease epidemic, clean up the toxic food supply, restore our constitutional freedoms and end the government corruption that's at the root of all of these things.

Expand full comment

No question about that! Trump is already managing tons of U.S. real estate for Putin and his oligarchs; that’s probably why the Trump empire needs hundreds of shell companies. One would think that Trump is emulating the evil Nazi businessman Martin Bormann, head of Hitler’s Chancellery, who supposedly died in 1945; or perhaps he spirited himself somewhere else; whatever happened to Bormann’s empire of shell companies?

Sorry, perhaps he’s an interesting author; I admit that I’ve never read his books. I lost interest in him because of his constant antivax views; debunked claims that vaccines cause autism (more likely that it is caused pre-birth by a common bacterium); his claim of having a dead parasite “brain worm”; his new claim that 5G causes “Leaky Brain”…. Does this not sound kind of nutty? Perhaps you can explain what that is - did he write about that?

But the worst is letting himself be bamboozled into first running for the presidency (not serious!) and getting his name on ballots in many states, then withdrawing from the run when it was too late in many places to remove his name from the ballot, and his willingness to believe that Trump or his henchmen would give him any significant role in running environmental or health-related services! Does anybody really think this would happen if Trump wins? If it does, it would just be trump’s was of showing his contempt for said government agencies. I doubt the Heritage Foundation will allow him to have any influence. Of course, if his name does not appear on your ballot, you can write it in. But he’s nothing more than a spoiler that Trump has successfully deployed to draw votes away from the Harris-Waltz ticket, so he will get no respect from me.

Expand full comment

Thanks, Noel, for answering in good faith. Just for the record, I agree with his views on vaccines and 5G. There is good science behind them, if you get out from under the thumb of the people who don't want you to hear about it, like the media. 5G is microwave radiation. We use it to cook food, so what do you think it does to your brain when you're holding your phone up to your ear or living near a cell tower? I had a good friend, a real estate agent who was on his phone all the time, who died of a glioblastoma in his fifties. Anecdotal? maybe, but there are tens of thousands of studies showing the biological harm of electro-magnetic radiation. The FCC just plowed ahead with it anyway, and put up the towers during the pandemic, when nobody was paying attention. This is the kind of thing he wants to stop.

RFK had no choice but to quit the race, even though polls showed he would have beaten either Trump or Biden if he'd been allowed on any debate stage. The DNC harassed him with lawsuits and drained his funds by denying him secret service protection when he qualified for it. He was very serious and highly popular. I shared your doubt of Trump's intent to keep his word, but Kennedy has talked long and hard with Trump and Trump appears to many to have changed after his recent brush with death. He shares Kennedy's existential goals of cleaning up the toxic food supply, ending the chronic disease epidemic that's bankrupting our country, stopping the endless wars that are also bankrupting us and closing the border and restoring orderly legal immigration. RFK Jr. trusts Trump and has asked his supporters to vote for Trump. I support Trump because Kennedy asked me to. Kennedy has the knowledge and will to clean up corruption in the government, and that will be the beginning of turning the country around, I believe. Who doesn't want to end the corruption, the wars and the chronic disease?

The media has been grossly misrepresenting many things because they're all owned by the same small handful of billionaire elites, who's goal is to take political control. Bill Gates, the World Economic Forum, and Blackrock, State Street and Vanguard - the investment companies that own every corporation you can think of. So, don't believe what you hear or read from the legacy media. They dish out the agenda of their owner/overlords, which is to usher in a technocratic dictatorship. Don't take my word for it. Read the goals of the WEF. Kamala Harris is right behind the whole thing, too.

So, please read any of Kennedy's books or listen to his long format interviews. You've been given a distorted view of him.
