"Trump’s former national security advisor, retired General Michael Flynn, who pled guilty under oath twice to lying to the FBI only to get a pardon from Trump, was vocal over the weekend about what a future under Trump would look like. He was asked at the Rod of Iron Freedom Festival Friday night if he'd “sit at the head of a military tribunal to not only drain the swamp, but imprison the swamp, and on a few occasions, execute the swamp.” Flynn responded, “What your sentiment is about is accountability … I definitely believe we need accountability.” After pointing out Trump would need to win first for there to be “a way to get after this,” Flynn concluded, “These people are already up to no good … We win, and then Katie Bar the door. Believe me, the gates of hell, my hell will be unleashed.”"

Do people really want that kind of violence perpetrated against our people by actual convicted criminals: Trump, Flynn, Bannon, etc.? Do people have so little knowledge of history that they forget that the Nazis didn't stop with murdering Jewish people, but added groups on a regular basis, continuing to kill Jews, but adding Communists, political prisoners of all kinds, gay men, disabled persons, Roma people, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. What makes those Trump supporters think they won't become victims too?

Actually, as I read Project 2025, with my Democrats Abroad Project 2025 book club there is so much to fear. Certainly the military is going to be in chaos for one with what is planned. These people really want to destroy our nation and thus get rid of the Constitution which they want to refashion as a White Supremacist Christian Nationalist Utopia. Ironically, like the Crusaders of the 30 years war in Europe, they are using "faith" and supposed Christianity to claim the moral high ground for taking over our country and reaffirming it as a White, male paradise. Since the US is already a White Supremacist society since its founding, but has moved far from that ideal at this point with hard fought battles, and resistance, where women, LGBTQ+, and immigrants with all shades of brown skin, and all sorts of physical characteristics, cultural backgrounds, and religions have been able to shape the destiny of this country too. Who I would like to see being reached with this message is not the immovable MAGAs, but the college students who say change the Israel policy or they won't vote for Harris. However, the difficulty with this group, is that the frontal cortex does not fully develop until 24-30. That is the part of the brain responsible for complex problem solving, critical thinking and delayed gratification. All of these would be required for them to take a long term good perspective on the election now. Many are able to do it, but some are also so caught up in their cause that they don't see that a Trump presidency will possibly be worse for people of Gaza, as there will be no more funding for humanitarian aid under such an administration, and Israel will have the full Christian Nationalist backing. Not only that, but they will be shipped to other countries, or rounded up and put into concentration camps for protesting because there will be no free speech. It would be instructive to have them look at Russia and see what happens there, because that is their likely fate. Democratic politician David Pepper has written a series that is turned into a podcast as well, called Trumps Project 2025, which is a fictionalized version of what life would be like under Project 2025 if implemented. Here is a link.

Linda how did you get the font of your post so big? I wish all the posts were that readable to my eyes. John

Expand full comment

I agree with most of your analysis, Linda. However, as delayed development of the prefrontal cortex is defined by literature, I have to wonder about the prefrontal cortex of those who support a genocidal war against a civilization that has been perpetually abused since 1948, and frankly, even before. The prefrontal cortex assesses to the best of one's ability (although my MS in physical education with a concentration in exercise physiology doesn't make me an authority in neurology, I still have a basic understanding in how the mind works). In the university student's case, they see what they see and know it is wrong. Their prefrontal cortex tells them that there is a way to stop this madness if we're dealing with intelligent leaders. Biden has done much for this nation; however, pertaining to the Israeli/ Palestinian issue, he has had the perpetual blinders on since the beginning. This administration is not solely to blame for all that has happened to the Palestinians; believe me, there is plenty of blame to go around; that also includes, to a certain extent, the Palestinians themselves. I would only add that the locus of responsibility and center of initial devastation experienced by Palestinians is the Zionist cause itself. As not yet fully matured as the prefrontal cortex may well be in these students, they still retain a good deal of brilliance, otherwise, none of them would be at the universities of their choice. Look, I get what you're saying; however, the assertion that their prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed can also be applied to President Biden's, most definitely Trump, somewhat Obama (as I believe he knows the Israelis for what they are), Bush II, Clinton (for he was absolutely no help in this matter at all), to some extent, Bush I (he showed some inclination understanding Israeli arrogance and wrong doing), Reagan, Carter who in my opinion gets very little or no blame at all, Ford, Nixon, LBJ (remember the USS Liberty? My feeling is that both LBJ and McNamara should have both been impeached on that issue), and to some extent, JFK even though he had doubts about Israel's leadership, he nevertheless had no problem giving state of the Art weaponry to Shimon Peres when visiting the White House during his term (book: Support Any Friend by Warren Bass), and I hold no grudge against Dwight D. Eisenhower, as I believe he also saw "the Israeli" (as he called him in his book "Waging Peace") for what they were, which of course brings us down to the one who started it all, Harry Truman who was weak in fully understanding the consequences of recognizing Israel. The point of this list is to demonstrate that from the beginning, we've had it all wrong about Israel. And yet, those who lead this nation still don't get it. The tired old worn-out refrain of "Israel has a right to protect itself" has proven to be meaningless in the face of over 40,000 deaths (let alone the one's now also in Lebanon.) And our administration, and either one who follows (and here, I can definitely say: far better Harris/Waltz than Trump/Vance - it's not even *close*) the search for reason still has to continue. The problem is, we keep putting off fixing this problem. So, when does it end? How long are we to keep kicking this can down the road and let Zionism ethnically cleanse a people who have lived there for centuries. The fact remains, that there is really no excuse. We can talk about Israel's technological prowess and our support and integration with them on these technologies; that's another discussion altogether. What needs to be done is to call out what needs to be called out. And by the way, this has nothing to do with antisemitism - not that anyone has accused me of this for this post (yet), but I'm not holding my breath in seeing the incoming flak.

Linda, a challenge for young people is that they can so easily be pulled into a single-issue perspective. That can cut them off from other factors that should be taken into consideration. I saw that with some people I knew when I was in high school. They were either against the war in Vietnam or for ending racism and pushing for civil rights. They always had a reason for their position. Some of my friends who could see things more broadly and I tried to show them that the points were connected. I don't believe I swayed anyone to my position. It may be that I was not a good persuader or that those I was talking with just couldn't see it. I am wondering if this way of thinking is a factor today too.

I encourage you to actually LOOK at what they are reporting before making highly erroneous statements about their coverage.

Expand full comment

On this point, we are in agreement. The NYT and WAPO are covering General Miley’s comments in Bob Woodward’s new book extensively.

There is, however, the factor of ‘’Both Sidesism’’ practiced by large segments of the media, that benefits Trump by covering him as if he were somehow a legitimate opponent to VP Harris.

Professor Timothy Snyder discusses it at length in his October 12 Substack, ‘’Both Sides’’.

His piece is too dense for a nutshell synopsis, but the following quote gives one a taste of his argument.

"Why does American television and press “both-sides” our politics? Why are such different presidential candidates presented as equally flawed? Why do the outrages of Trump, for example at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, lead to the humiliation of Biden?

Both-Sidesism is the habit of reducing the world into two perspectives, treating the two as fundamentally alike, and then ignoring or adjusting the data. One cause of this odd behavior is the ownership of media companies. Another is fear.''

The potential solutions for much of this were negotiated in Congress, passed in the Senate and about to pass in the House. Trump called the Speaker and killed it.

President Biden pulled off a miracle rescuing America from Orange Hitlers 4 years of tyranny. The border bill took time to prepare and was bi-partisan. It was Donable Lector that instructed Moses Mike to kill that bill when it was ready. No way should should we get sucked into The Dickwads immigrant-border fascist rhetoric.

Oh good grief. You’re buying the immigrant fear again. The solution is Congress and an immigration policy that’s realistic. “Just say no” never works.

Expand full comment

I am not buying that immigrants are evil and murders, etc. Why even trump hired illegals. Authoritarians look for a group of people to hate-migrants or citizens-like the Jewish people. Karen Stenner writes that trumpers are not closed minded-just simple minded. They dislike diversity, varied opinions, diversity of experiences, and it makes them angry. They are drawn to authoritarianism because they are bothered by complexity. Demographic changes is one form of complexity. A strong leader promising them to solve their problems.

Expand full comment

Not so, Bill. Biden said he would sign the strongest border security and imigration bill ever written, by very conservative Rebuplicans, in conjuction with Democrats who let them have everything they wanted, just to get it done and signed, and Trump told the Senate and House to kill it so he could keep it as a campaign focus, which he has.

The president has no power over such issues.

Expand full comment

Trump had no authority to do this as he is a private citizen, even if he thinks he should still be president. The Republicans are more loyal to him than their Constitutional obligations and oaths, and it is quite scary to see them do this. It’s quite clear Trump sees himself as above the law, when the Founders intended for the President to be subject to the law. Roberts behaves with surprise that the public hates his decision to put Trump above the law, which shows he really must get out of his ivory tower. The justices who decided U.S. v. Trump just decided to throw out 245 years of precedent to enable a wannabe dictator. Many people are very well aware of this, and are understandably angry about it.

To be accurate Trump as a private citizen has just as much right to "lobby" Congress as you or I do. It's just that his efforts work because the GOP MAGA senators want his support. Would there be a plan for mass deportations if people with white skin were the immigrants streaming into our nation? Would their blood be poison and their genes be criminal?

Most Americans don’t want to face the racism used to keep us divided so elites can hold onto and expand their power.

It’s not just poor, displaced people voting for Trump and the Rs. White people are the only group that vote in higher percentages for the fascism we can see coming. Too many feel they need to be protected from “others”.

As Trump told them this is that last chance they have to “take their country back”. I’ve always wondered who they’re taking it back from…America has never been a “white country” because indigenous people and Africans were here from the beginning.

As a “nation of laws” slaveholders established laws and customs designed to keep the masses divided so they could control labor and power. They used skin color as a dividing line.

White supremacy is woven throughout our society. We’ve made some progress but not enough. We’re reaping what the “founders” sowed.

Biden did zip on immigration for 3 years. Bill is absolutely correct. Personally I was totally in support of his lack of legislation because for me the borders should be open. Draconian anti immigrant positions are TERRIBLE for the country. Bill and I totally disagree on that. But it is absolutely true that Biden let this slide until after he started losing in the race and then stepped aside.

The GOP supported his change of heart and they drafted most of the new bill but Trump demanded that the GOP vote no on their own bill. That was "good politics" for them, horrible for us and the country.

Biden didn’t have anything to do except the border problem. Seems to me he hit the ground running after such a Repub Schitt show.

Jon, a simple google search shows that this is not true. Just read a Wikipedia article about Biden’s border policies throughout his term, with his first executive order on January 26, 2021.

The border has been an intractable problem for years. Trump’s violent rhetoric only serves to make it harder for us ever to reach a consensus on how to manage it. When even our own side has bought into some of this blame throwing, I wonder what hope we have of finding a solution.

I can't follow everything of course but I try to look at the most important and reliable sources. Sorry if that is TMI but you asked. I repeat for the years the Biden administration did very little to deal with the immigration issues. And again my support is for open borders but I do not expect that to ever fly. He certainly did very little until this year's attempt at a new border bill. This my "zip" comment. Why does NO ONE bring up the facts that Trump's 4 year response to the "open Southern border" was to add a net 400 agents (when he promised to add 15000), less than 50 miles of a new border fence. (Anyone that calls it a wall hasn't seen pictures), separating children from their parents and putting migrants in cages that were so filthy that Mike Pence couldn't even go inside.

What if Trump had actually hired the 15000 additional agents and placed them in places where they could actually do something? And what if his crappy wall wasn't built so that any 12 year old with a saws-all could breach it. Trump's wall has not been breached over 5000 times and counting. They have full time crews fixing the holes.

And which countries are actually going to allow our deportees to be returned? Good luck with that. Trump isn't going to round up Europeans unless their skin isn't white. And what about indigenous people? Where is he going to deport them to? South Dakota?

What a moron.

The border has been an issue for decades. I recall George W. attempting a fix when he was President.

Expand full comment

The fact is nobody can "fix" it. If you want absolute correct enforcement, you need to deport about 15 million people many of whom currently work illegally picking our crops, cleaning our houses, building what little housing we currently build because Americans don't want the lousy pay.

Or you let them stay and piss off everyone who wants to be tough on illegal immigration.

The only sane solution to me is to just open our borders and let people in. Get rid of the crisis in "illegals" because if no one is illegal, there is no crisis.

Expand full comment

I dont agree with all you have said, Jon. But it is unfixable until someone finally uses some common sense in why people are leaving their homes & families to come here, considering the fact that it is NOT EASY to do so! And for sure, deporting the people who are literally doing the work that Americans refuse to do? I think that little issue right there possibly may turn out to be a slight problem for people and companies that have been and still are taking advantage of them. I doubt many of the MAGA bunch will like the lack of produce and food, the lack of "meat" from the only four meat processors in the US (which doesnt really concern me!) the lack of building supplies, the lack of garbage pickup - you know, all those nitty gritty little things that we just take for granted in this country.

"Normally I am voice of calm". Not yesterday. Neal sated that the Country is facing a "coming massive crises" from 11/5/24 the election date to 1/6/2025 next year & beyond.

Neal reminded the Nation that in the 2020 National election Trump lost the electoral vote count by seventy-four (74) electoral votes. Biden received 306, Trump got only 232. Thus, in 2020 Trump had to "run the table" meaning he overturn the election tax in many states while disenfranchising millions of Voters.

Citing Jen Psaki's data at the opening of her show, Neal said upcoming national election

may be decided only by 1 or 2 states.

Trump will put "massive pressure" on the following targets in those few states:

*. Declare Victory regardless of true final results;

* Pressure the state Courts;

* Pressure the state Legislatures;

*. Pressure state Governors - "I only need ..."

* Manipulate local election boards like in GA to disrupt state certification

The Electoral Reform Act has created some weak guardrails that Neal Katyal believes can be overturned by simple majority votes.

Take personal political & democratic actions. I note that 2 states have replaced the now missing Voting Rights Act (VRA) with state equivalents of the same legal protections including Minnesota on 5/24 & New York on 6/22. Michigan, Florida, New Jersey & Maryland have similar Legislation in the works. Check your state & support these positive state actions.

I have already voted by mail. I will track the fact of both receipt & the counting of my vote.

Every positive action is another step forward in a resounding victory for Kam & the Union.

Hi Bryan,

In the course of looking for something else, I fortuitously came across your 10/13/24 post on LFAA about Neal Katyal's sounding the alarm about coming crises from MAGA election machinations. In tonight's letter by Robert Hubbell (10/16/24), he again elaborated how the Electoral Count Reform Act will hold and how any state's failure to certify electors will reduce the total number of electors in the Electoral College, thereby changing the math for the majority to win the presidency.

I confess that as much as I can read anything, I have lost patience with Neal Katyal, especially after hearing him repeat his post-NYT Editorial alarm tonight to Lawrence O'Donnell--without naming any sort of solution while he had the big megaphone, not even as simple as for Dems to GOTV.

I would love to hear Robert Hubbell and others address your questions about any mitigating responses to Trump's pressuring states' courts, legislatures, and governors to subvert a popular vote majority for Harris.

Since you did your homework and I have not, would you be so kind as to pose that question to Robert Hubbell?

Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler’s speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

“Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?” I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. “Who told you that?”

“I don’t remember,” I said.

“Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.” (“I did give him a book about Hitler,” Marty Davis said. “But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”)

Later, Trump returned to this subject. “If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do, I would never read them.”

We can only hope that such ideologies and hatred will again be discredited. Honestly, after decades of holding on to the teaching that the faithful are the church that I belonged to, both the hierarchy and too many of those "faithful" support such reprehensible thinking that I left. In 2016 the election was between Hillary Clinton, a much hated woman for many and diverse reasons, and Donald Trump, a tv performer thought to be a successful billionaire business man. After 4 years of incompetent governance 81 million voters fired Trump . The winner, Joe Biden, had campaigned from his basement. As President Biden overcame Covid, reduced inflation and oversaw legislation that put the economy squarely back on its feet while avoiding a recession and creating millions of new jobs. Trump advanced a dystopian view of everything without relation to fact. A majority of Americans are not ignorant or evil enough to fall for the rantings of a narcissistic sociopath. They rejected him in 2020. There’s no reason they will change their minds to now support Trump in 2024 and reject a well liked, competent and articulate Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris needs a Democratic Congress, and key Senate and House races are running neck and neck. Pick any of the closest races to support with your donations and/or volunteer efforts, such as:

Colin Allred for Texas

Sherrod Brown for Ohio

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for Florida

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/senate/2024/

For the House, open FiveThirtyEight and scroll to "What are the closest races?" 25 states have close races on this list:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2024-election-forecast/house/

As for Trump's campaigning in blue states, maybe he's actually campaigning in competitive House districts to support his MAGA sycophants in order to subvert the certification of Kamala Harris as President. This appears to have been the case for his Coachella rally where a really good Democratic candidate, Will Rollins, is within a few points of MAGA incumbent Ken Calvert for CA-41. Calvert co-hosted a fundraiser for Trump back in March, voted to overturn the 2020 election, and continues to be a Trumper election-denier.

As we look for where our donor dollars will have the most impact, Will Rollins CA-41 is one of the pick-up seats we can flip toward a much needed Dem majority in the House of Representatives.

One of the fallacies that many people seem to hold is that because someone appears to have been or is successful in their business venture(s) that this individual would be successful in the role of POTUS. This is not necessarily so, as the objectives of most businesses is one of maximizing profits and for publicly held corporations - it is creating value for it’s shareholders. The role of government(s) is almost entirely opposite. Some of the skills possessed by successful business persons can be applied in governmental leadership positions, but trump - who operates basically a glorified “mom and pop” entity in the other peoples’ money sector (real estate) possesses and exhibits very few of the skills to be a successful CEO of a publicly-held corporation!

Expand full comment

They don’t understand the purposes of business and government are different. 45 years of unregulated capitalism has allowed a small percentage of the population to acquire obscene amounts of money, which they use to undermine the government so that it does not work for the people, but for themselves. It has also created a much larger class of poor people and decimated a middle class that was once admired, although we had a system designed to leave certain groups of people out of the middle class.

We need to rediscover the need to address the common good of all citizens, regardless of their background or origins. We cannot afford to leave people out. White rural voters are justifiably angry about the decimation of their opportunities, but propaganda outlets who cater to their anger encourage them to blame the wrong people. Professors and minority citizens didn’t consolidate their farms or ship their jobs overseas, it was greedy executives who did that.

It makes even more sense after 2022 (Dobbs and the overturn of Roe) and all the special election and referendums since then where Dems overperformed.

BUT WHY AREN'T (any, or hardly any) the polls reflecting this? I mean, we were looking a little bit better for a while this summer and now pundits tell us "people still don't trust Kamala" and/or "her glow has worn off". HOW?

Anyway, I just looked at the Economist poll average - they have Harris at 50.3 to Trump’s 46.9. Interesting that at Biden lowest poll numbers, right before he dropped out, the Economist had the average at 47 Trump and 43 Biden - so Trump may really have a ceiling of 47.

Who will tRump go after first? His staff will be too busy going after prominent "enemies" like Pelosi to go after ordinary Dems. Next will be rounding up people of color and any Caucasians they can identify such as Ukrainians.

Sorry if I am free-associating. . . I have never been so anxious about an election. I ask myself the same about Hitler’s rise to power. That’s why they are using his playbook, they know it worked and is working for him. I am very very worried and will continue biting my nails for the next month at least.

Why isn’t there more of a grassroots movement to get democratic voters registered and to the polls, door-to-door?

Expand full comment

Where do the Trump supporters get the idea that we need a dictator? You’re correct in that Trump gives them people to hate, and that they are unwilling to take responsibility for themselves and want to cede their power to a dictator. It won’t be long before they will bitterly regret having supported him, because he’ll give them hate figures, but he won’t lift a finger to help them. Trump wants unlimited power, he wants to receive unlimited wealth as a dictator, and he wants to govern out of spite and revenge. None of these things are good reasons to govern.

I would think the example of how Adolf Hitler came to power would be a warning to Americans about the danger of empowering someone like Trump, but sadly, some of us are ignorant of the dangers, and they are not educated to know how the government is supposed to function as opposed to how it does function. Teaching to standardized testing has been damaging to two generations of students.

Why I am very optimistic about Nov... It's not the polls... It's the 2020 numbers.

Here's my back of the envelope forecast:

The Joe Biden coalition of voters beat Donald Trump by 7 million votes in 2020, +81 million to 74 million, that is + 7 million votes! So the first question in forecasting this Nov's outcome is...Has Harris/Walz pulled the Biden coalition back together?

Miraculously, the answer is yes. Mostly..

Mostly means 3.5 million Biden voters have passed away based on mortality averages and it's likely 5-6 million voters simply can't vote for a Black woman for president. This includes Black and Latino men and White guys who believe a woman leader is either "weak" or "strident", both unattractive attributes in a President.

This leaves Kamala with 72-73 million votes from the Biden coalition. What is she likely to add? 7 million young first time voters, 3 million activated, pro-reproductive freedom white women voters, 1 million extra Black woman voters, 2 million Never Trump Republicans, Independents and Haley voters.

This brings Kamal's vote total to 85-86 million. And there is potential for more Harris votes because Trump is such a more deranged, repellant candidate this cycle than he was in 2020.

And what does Trump have? Trump starts with 71 million because 3 million of his voters have passed away. He adds maybe 3 million of those voters who cannot vote for a Black woman, 2 million young first time voters plus 1 million Black and Latino male voters. That gives Trump 75-77 million votes tops.

I think this total is optimistic because, as I said above, Trump is a more deranged, repellant candidate than he was in 2020. It's very likely that Trump will lose more voters and not get to the 74 million he got in 2020.

We have at least 10-15 million volunteers working day and night to put Kamala over the top. Trump has Trump and a very small ground game.

With my forecast, Kamala is likely to win the popular vote by 6%-7%. 53% to 47%. Enough to win the electoral vote with 4 swing states. And what about those scary polls? The polls have become particularly unstable but are are trending in Harris direction. Harris is up by 4-5% in more polls. If she wins by +6% the pollsters can say it was in the margin of error so why were we so irate? Actually because political polls, no matter how unbiased they try to be, partisan political tools that journalists use to tell election stories.

We just have to remember, polls don't win elections, voters do! So we have to keep going at 150% and sleep after Nov. 5th

You can stream it free on Kanopy, courtesy of many public libraries. Check your library’ site under “databases” or “online resources”—your library card will get you in.

Watch the original; it is much better.

General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump: “He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country…a fascist to the core.” No wonder he responded to Michelle Obama, whom he sat next to at Bident's Inauguration, to her comment, "I'll bet you're glad to be out of there" -- General Milley said, "You have NO IDEA." Now we all know what he knew.

Why did Milley not talk about this openly before?

Expand full comment

I don't know. And why didn't Woodward release this information LONG ago? Just for the MONEY?

Expand full comment

I had the same question a few days ago. If Woodward and/or Milley were facing real life threats, what changed that they are coming out now with the book (Woodward) and the comment (Milley)?

Expand full comment

This is a great time to come out with the book—it’s news!

I have been wanting to say this since book came out - Woodward holding this information back from the public - GREED.

The same with Bolton. The same with pence. THEY KNEW BUT REFUSED TO SPEAK UP. They failed we the people!!!!

My guess Milley is caught between the need to speak out and (even in retirement) professional conduct. He was pretty up front in his retirement speech:

“We are unique among the world’s militaries. We don’t take an oath to a country. We don’t take an oath to a tribe. We don’t take an oath to a religion. We don’t take an oath to a king, or a queen, or to a tyrant or a dictator,” Milley said at a ceremony in Virginia.

“And we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator,” he continued. “We don’t take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution, and we take an oath to the idea that is America — and we’re willing to die to protect it.”

Expand full comment

You are right - Milley upheld professional conduct and standards, not even mentioning tfg in his retirement speech (about a year ago). At that time the felon and wannabe dictator who is trying to get back into the White House had already threatened him with execution, something that should be reserved for traitors like trump.

I would settle for lock him up.

You are absolutely correct!!!

Because he’s been facing real life threats. The fascist is a mobster.

Wannabee mobster anyway. He got cozy with the mob, but I doubt they would ever trust him.

He has admitted he is probably facing recall and a court marshal if Trump is reinstated. I am not sure this is what deterred him, probably not given his character, still…

He did speak out very, very clearly about the risks of drumpf at his retirement in September, 2023. I think it just didn't get adequate coverage in the press. Gosh! Surprise! Surprise! I can't IMAGINE why not!

Said Milley: "we are not easily intimidated.”

I think that Kamala needs to use stronger language to call him out. She succeeded in taunting him in the debate. She should talk about his refusal of a second saying “he’s afraid because I wiped the floor with him the first time”. What happened to our tough prosecutor???

Expand full comment

Maybe she's not the person who has to get tough. Milley had the right idea, and bravo to Bob Woodward and his publisher for rush printing his book. And if Republicans are not cooperating with preparing for a smooth transition should they win, it's time now to blow the whistle loud and often. We must demand a Constitutional government.

My worry abound this advice from political wonks like Carville is that there is such a gender driven double standard at play …it basically oozes from the press headlines and comments like Huckabee-Sanders about the need for Harris to be humble. She is walking a tightrope. For some reason the US cannot tolerate aggressively strong women leaders it seems on the surface at least. Compare this to Iron woman Margaret Thatcher in the UK who ascended to and held power for so long there. Harris and her campaign know that this election is an existential moment and they have the Hillary Clinton collapse in the immediate rear view mirror. It is crucial they court the middle and the middle is pretty muddled.

Expand full comment

I've seen a lot of men, mostly black, saying they will not vote for Harris because other world leaders will walk all over a woman. Republicans want to weaken any strong democratic woman by saying these things & I too think Harris should hit him hard.

Oh, you mean like they walked all over Angela Merkel? Or Jacinda Arden? Or Margaret Thatcher?

Any of these women would have wiped the floor with that Orange tub o’ lard.

So did Kamala. That’s why he won’t debate her again.

How many Trump voters do you think listen to or read msm? In my experience their minds are closed tight and they want no new input. I’ve been canvassing and when dumpy, grumpy older man answers the door, it’s the first clue that it’s a Trump voter. When they refuse material it’s a sure thing. Nothing new to learn in their world.

James Carville was interviewed today by Jen Psaki and essentially said the same thing... that Kamala Harris needs to use strong language now, because it's clear Trump is a fascist. Here's the interview...

Kamala was doing just that today in North Carolina. We all know she "wiped the floor with him."

He knows it and man-baby ran to his hate-crip with his baby bottle of diet-coke.

Often times actions speak louder than words...........Kamala Harris knows that.........She will be the one who for the last time shouts......."YOUR FIRED!"

Brilliant as usual Heather. But maybe you can explain to us where our major news outlets have disappeared to, and why? Why are there not 2-inch headlines about this on the NY Times and Washington Post? How are the ABC and CBS Sunday morning news programs able to hold twee little polite interviews with the enablers of this clearly insane wannabe dictator? Have we as a nation completely lost our will to survive as the world’s preeminent democracy? Is there historical precedent or discernible reason for this? We need your help to understand where and why we are so apparently weak.

If Trump's supporters think that he is their protector, they are sadly mistaken. Time to reread FIRST THEY CAME, by Martin Niemöller

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

To speak out for me.

progwoman, I agree.

Also, something that truly mystifies me about trump’s rants on immigration with all the apparent agreement that comes from his constituents (followers and worshippers): where’s all our live news covert of what must be an all out war zone happening in our border towns and cities across our southern states, now?

Did I just miss all the tanks and combat happening? Where’s all the live coverage from CA, AZ, NM, and TX showing our national guard defending the brave southern citizens from all these immigrant terrorists who are obviously ravaging our cities on the boarder? Where’s FOX news when you need ‘em??

I’m sure glad I live in a peaceful community just outside of Baltimore where it’s actually peaceful. Whew!
