Very true. LBJ, according to the White House tapes book titled Taking Charge, reported by Michael Beschloss, Johnson felt that he was stuck on the SEATO treaty and refused to abandon the war. My own suspicion is that had Kennedy lived or survived the assassination, the beginning days in Vietnam may well have been a footnote in history. Of course, we will never know; however, that is my feeling on this subject.
