Well said! I had never realized how quickly the first revolution for legal equality had formed and taken place! This second revolution for "moral equality of individuals" that will take shape tomorrow is world wide; please remember how important it is to beat Putin and his allies on the Ukraine battlefield.

Thanks are due, once again, to Prof. Richardson for providing historical context, as well as reason for hope. As the great Yogi Berra once said: “making predictions is tough, especially about the future”, so I really have no idea who will win. Certainly, I hope VP Harris wins.

If she does win, I will reflexively say: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we’re free at last! I know that even if Trump is defeated, Trumpism/MAGA, will still be with us for a long time to come, and there are problems with our economy, public policies, and society that will need to be fixed to finally put an end to the frustration and rage among some people that causes them to feel that some one like Trump is the answer to their problems.

If Harris loses, then we will all have to dig deep to find the strength and courage to endure and resist his toxic reign and his damaging and dangerous policies. I surely hope that it doesn’t take a civil war, as was a part of the history Prof. Richardson describes.

I wonder if T tried to vote in FL? Felon, and all. I keep learning so much & being reminded of portions of our history that I didn't see in my school books. As long as we have people like you to help us understand some things, there will be hope. Thank you Heather!

I read this this morning and am now listening to it, in your voice, and I'm even more moved. A bit of eye leakage here, particularly from the first couple of paragraphs. That said, I'm similarly on edge, but also so very grateful to you for these letters, and even before that, I have to admit that I have gratitude to Trump. Prior to his 2016 election, I had always voted, but I had been so trusting of the government to sort of just take care of itself that I paid only minimal attention at best. I would ask locally informed friends whose opinions I trusted how I should vote on issues in our town and even sometimes in our state. Thanks to the election and then the sh*tshow presidency of Trump, I started paying attention myself. We don't have TV reception in our house, so all of our media comes through the computer. I started subscribing to the Portland Press Herald. I also started subscribing to sub stackers, starting with HCR. I don't watch any news channels. I occasionally click on a news story a friend might post on FB, but even then don't have the patience most of the time to sit through a video (TikTok holds nothing for me), particularly if there are embedded ads. For years now I've following HCR, Robert Hubbell, and have in the last year or two started following Simon Rosenberg, Jessica Craven, Joyce Vance, and Jay Kuo. I often click on links to articles that THEY share in their newsletters. I'm now the person that friends trust for voting information! I have an opinion now! I also know where to send them for information and resources. And I'm not proud of this, but I never never never would have been this informed prior to Trump. And I'm not going back.

While this part is NOT true for Trump, HCR, please consider me a forever grateful fan.

This letter is inspiring about our history, and shows, in reflection, faith in our country. This process described took time, years. This is also inferring that we may very well have to fight to keep our democracy in another civil war. I have no idea what that might look like. But we may have one. Or we may become Russia under repression, Lord help us.

This may be regardless of who wins the election. Harris/Walz, if they win, will allow a space, a chance for cooling off and for Trump/MAGA/project 2025 to stand down, for the emotions to subside, for reflection. Will they lose support? Or will they continue their insurrection. They will not give up because the movement/operation so far has grown and it's become a serious power grabbing organization. It's dividing us frightfully more than we want to believe. As Lincoln said, a country divided cannot stand. We may have to "fight, fight, fight" ( as Trump leads on) because if you are being assaulted, if we are being attacked, we have no choice.

With my apologies in saying this, but I am being sober, not negative. This history and this letter actually should have been a speech given by Biden last week in front of cameras and on all the mainstream media.. and reverberated. Thank you
