To dear Heather, I am extremely grateful to you! Your Letters have supported me for three years and have given me not only education but HOPE! Every morning, I get my coffee and sit down with your Letters first! What a fabulous way to start my day! Now I have discovered your live programs, and I already listen to you and Joann. I don't know how you do it all, and I thank you! I am one member of an enormous HCR Fan Club, extending across this country and into Canada!!! You have touched our lives so humbly and beautifully!!!
Deep gratitude to Heather and this community! Folks can take a peek on Heather’s Facebook at others’ photos, including their beautiful landscapes from around the world:
Thank you, Ellie. These photos and comments opened my Covid heart, which is needed. Better than any medicine! I love Heather and this group of thoughtful people so very much. 😘🙏🏽😘
Just like Kit and also Ken Burns, I start my day with HCR and share her wisdom and insights with many others on FB. How powerfully you reflect on our current state of affairs and put it all in perspective with its historical context. How wonderful it would be if more people in our country would respond to truth and wisdom, and act accordingly. I'm grateful for this community.
Shannon, I've often wondered what would happen if Ken Burns created a documentary based on the political side of the Civil War.
Start at the beginning as to why the issue of slavery was ignored altogether, and how it's principles of racism, voting denial has plagued our country to this very day. OR, I'm not sure if Mr. Burns has considered this topic: The "Reconstruction" and its many failures.
I also start my day with Heather with either coffee or green tea. It's tea today. Yes, the fan club. We were over to our neighbors for Thanksgiving yesterday and our neighbor mentioned how much he enjoyed the letters and how he reads them every day. We all agreed that Heather is fabulous.
They are...just them, us, and their daughter. We ended the day by expressing gratitude for good neighbors. Butternut squash pie which is better than pumpkin in my opinion. We also played dominoes which I had done since????
Thank you for this, eloquent and so to the point of how so many of us feel.
Every Thanksgiving we put our thankful thoughts on paper and put in a box to be read and shared after dinner. My first thankful thought was to be thankful for my daily dose of “Letters from an American. “ Thank you HCR and all of this wonderful community, that enlighten me in so many ways.
Heather, Thank you for making us love history because of your historical insights into current events, for keeping us relatively sane for the past three years and, lastly, for sharing wonderful pictures.
Hi Heather, beautiful photo. Here is one from the other coast from a long admiring fan. (Apparently I can’t attach a photo. Oh well. I have no doubt that you would have enjoyed it.)

Such a beautiful post. ❤️
I opened this page to make my first ever comment and found Kit’s word which express beautifully what I wanted to say. Thank you HCR. ❤️
Welcome, Beverly. You’ve described my experience here to a “T”. This community has become very important to me.

Sending wishes your way for speedy-as-possible healing, though it tends to take awhile.
Thank you, Ellie. This too shall pass. I’ll be glad when it’s over.

I echo Kit's sentiments

Cannot express how greatful I am to you Heather in a more perfect way than to add my name to Kit’s letter. Thank you
Amen!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and every one of the Americans in our democratic community. I am thankful for everyone of you.

Heather, Thank you for making us love history because of your historical insights into current events, for keeping us relatively sane for the past three years and, lastly, for sharing wonderful pictures.
Thank you for your knowledge, generosity, insight, and ability to share just the right beautiful photographs! Happy Thanksgiving!
THANKS!
I was looking forward to a peaceful image.
You and Buddy are the BEST!
The hearts are working beautifully this time.
Beautiful pic of your lovely area! Hope yours was filled with laughter and warmth.
I hope yours was too, Marlene!
It was, CC! Hope yours was also. 🥰
I'm so grateful you share your insights, knowledge and communication skills with us. Oh...and the lovely photographs that give us a respite in nature.
Happy Thanksgiving, Professor! I’m so grateful to you and for you.
I’m also thankful that Democrats held the Senate and that so many election deniers lost their bids for power.
Our work is not finished, but what once felt like a mountain to climb feels more like a big hill now. We’ve got this, America!
There are a lot of us women who never knew their intellectual strengths until it became “too late to use them”.
Your connection to me, and I suspect to US , is a sort of lifeline.
Happy Thanksgiving, HCR.
I love learning from you.
I give thanks to ALL our sisters and brothers.
Thank you for the stunning water and sky, a reminder to be grateful and to commit to our children and their children the awesome gifts of nature.
And a poem to tell that story. Where is the life of the water? Birds, insects...
We promised ...
AS A PORTENT
David Baker - 1954-
At least there was a
song timorous of
wing-beat snowdrift ash
of red horizon
then somewhere calling
as under one’s breath
(I did not hope you
would find me wanting)
and the next extinction
on every wing—

It sounds lovely but I'll need someone to interpret, other than I surely noticed a portent, "extinction."
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend. Relax with the ones you love...
