Your column is the most informative and intelligent piece of writing that I have ever encounterd. Your ability to analyze and challenge is superb and I can’t wait for every one. Thank you so much.

Hi Heather,

I love you and your column so much. I read your letters the first thing every morning. I want to know if you are at all concerned about Trump's attempting to control our news and persecute reporters? I would be willing to support you in any way that I can. I want you to know this and how much I value what you share and how you share it. And I am not a big network person.

I am an 80 year old woman who has seen a lot of our history, but you so frequently enlighten and educate me.

THANK-YOU,

Sally Edith

FYI, the Department of Government Efficiency acronym (DOGE) is supposed to be pronounced (as far I know) like /ˈdoʊ(d)ʒ/ ("dohj"), with a soft "gee" like wedge or lodge. It comes from Elon Musk's ridiculous obsession with Dogecoin.

I just figured she was dogging on Musk! 😂

Pretty sure the pronounciation you explain is the general intention/understanding.

A depressing letter, but I cling to your last sentence for a glimmer of hope. I am very happy to hear that Biden's judicial appointments are going through the Senate confirmation process smoothly because of absence of GOP senators.

Yet it was later on the internet that Schumer and obviously his colleagues made a deal with the Rep senators to limit judicial appointments because the Rep came up with ways to stall the vote on each judge appt. They traded with Schumer and they now have control over who decides the judges for the Appellate courts or will leave that for Trump to do. Not sure that part. They did this so that all the senators did not have to stay until midnight to obtain approvals- slow down the Dem process. I am disappointed. Wish they would have kept on going and making the Rep have to stay as well-but of course that would have meant that the Dem senators would have had to do so also. Guess not too concerned or Schumer would have not made the deal- Ugh

Your characterization of Trump's political cover is far too deferential. It was yet another willful deception by the serial liar. Nobody should have believed any of it.

Call this what you want, THIS is FASCISM. Where and who may be the protections against this chaos ? The last two weeks have been nothing but grief, chaos and terror. These people are terrorists, plain and simple. No people will benefit from these changes other than the few at the top. Help us…

Will have to help ourselves!

Please keep calling it “doggy.” The republicans delight in saying “democrat” instead of “democratic” law maker. They know it is wrong, and do it anyway. There is a dog in the logo. We can pronounce the word anyway we want. Yes, it is petty, but somehow delights me. Thank you for all you do.

This is a tough one. I’m one voice in a deep red state (Alaska) trying to keep the faith. Thanks for your candor.

I would really like your thoughts on this letter sent by a substack author with IT experience to Kamala in his role as a public servant in a “ Duty to Inform”. https://open.substack.com/pub/spoonamore/p/duty-to-warn-letter-to-vp-harris?

To know what is to come doesn’t make the method of destruction more palatable. But if information is power, then thank you Heather for that!

It is clear that the policy path you describe Trump's administration taking would be challenged in Federal court. It remains to be seen how far the Supreme Court will bow to his will. This is chaos politics that we are familiar with from the last administration. Everyone should get some sleep now: the next year will be decisive for Trump's agenda. You explain the intent and possible conseqences of this power grab with terrifying clarity. And so it goes.
