I am amazed at the animosity Democrats and especially Progressives have displayed concerning Manchin. He was elected by the people of West Virginia, a state that is dominated by Republicans. How dominated? In 2020 Trump received 69% and Biden 30%, Republicans control 31 of the 34 seats in the Senate and 89 of the 100 seats in the House of Delegates. Over his career in the Senate, he has voted with Democrats 60 to 80% of the time. Progressives seem to demand political purity. In West Virginia that would result in a Republican Senator who reliably votes against the Democrat position 90% of the time. In my opinion getting 60-80% of what one wants is better than 10%. As a centrist I go along with Bismarck “Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable - the art of the next best”.
