You forgot to mention that a reporter, Edward R. Murrow, interviewed McCarthy live on television. It was that interview that showed McCarthy to be nothing but a lying bullying and oh so drunk coward. Murrow became my hero! I was a young teen at the time but I measure all journalists to Murrow. Murrow and Ed Friendly, the producer, could have lost their jobs, their reputations, and never work in the industry again. It was bravest thing I have ever witnessed in my life. Hurrah for great and brave journalists!

I hope Joe Biden in a debate with Trump will use Joseph Welch's line against McCarthy: "Have you no decency, sir?...At long last, have you no sense of decency?" I have added a link to this piece in my post on the similarities between McCarthy and Trump. https://jimbuie.substack.com/p/from-joe-mccarthyism-to-donald-trumpism

Don't hold your breath waiting to see trump appear. Just like his "determination" to take the stand in NYC....he came up with a lie. He knows his supporters will buy any story he spins.

Haunting echoes:

"Have you no sense of decency, sir?" Welch asked. "At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

Remnant words and view of Democrat William Proximate within our reality—that voters see [Trump is a disgrace to New York, to what compels us to thrive, and to America.]

Thank you, professor, for bringing the past into the present, as you do. Would that it awaken in us a deepened sense of stewardship of these history lessons.

Darwin Awards are coming, but for who? We entered the "post truth era" by 2016, as documented by Oxford Dictionary https://languages.oup.com/word-of-the-year/2016/ -- another word for "post truth" is "lies" -- I always thought it was odd that MCARTHY went to Maralago in 2020 and resurrected the zombie. Every generation has its 'McCarthy' I guess. BTW obviously a generation is about a lifespan, not the stupid labels media puts on fresh cohorts of consumers.

I think a "generation" is about 20-25 years, until they breed the next generation.
