You deserve more time off, but I am thankful for every hour you put in for us! I read your letter in the morning and then listen in the afternoon. This method really helps me remember. I am grateful to you!

Truly Suzanne, she does deserve some rest too. Grateful!

The patience of Job reminds us that it’s always impossible to get what we “deserve” while we are seeking justice until it’s done. Meanwhile, "fair" is where you take your pig to get a ribbon.

‘Just watched an Aussie Psychologist on Veteo, who suggested that when people think they are ‘under threat’ they turn to authoritarian governance. Um…in the first place the ‘threat’ is FROM TRUMP, HIS FASCIST REGIME AND MAGA/CHRISTIAN RIGHT FOLLOWERS…the ‘phone-call’ is coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE, oh ye of limited mental capacity! 😱😱😱

Trump & Co are MANUFACTURING CRISES to justify extreme measures to then FIX them…otherwise Trump’s ILLEGAL manoeuvres, now including WAR, would not pass Congressional approval…um…nevermind! 😖

The ‘boogeyman’ IS Donald Trump, and his scare tactics merely the ‘deflection’ that malignant narcissists are soooo good at. ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

80 years of ‘snowing’ others into beliefs he wants to dupe them with is A LOT OF ‘EXPERIENCE’!!

Trump’s criminal mind is now paying dividends he only dreamed of, but the GOP saw exactly ‘their man’: NO MORALS, NO REAL KNOWLEDGE, NO INHIBITIONS…A ‘DIAMOND-IN-THE-ROUGH…TO LIE, CHEAT, STEAL, AND COMMIT OTHER CRIMES IN ‘SECRET’. 😉. … 🤮

Now…most GOP enablers are SCARED TO DEATH of their ‘monster’, and must go along despite any regrets.

‘UNDER THREAT’? YOU BET! 🐷🥇

I tried and failed to calculate the odds of getting MAGA to change its mind, so I decided to ask the world's greatest expert. Translation: we can count on what 46 said in the last paragraph of https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/september-24-2024.

‘Can’t IMAGINE Trump quoting anyone but HIMSELF! But, then, he is the antithesis of a ‘Statesman’, which President Joe Biden was/is.

The ‘cold war’ was always a precarious balance, and requires INTELLIGENT INTERACTION…which it will not get from the USA until the nation sloughs off its present fascist veneer…trying to become a permanent STAIN on the land known as “America”.

I do not recognize that country any more! How about you??

"On February 27, 2026, Alberto Gutiérrez Reyes died after being held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center and “reportedly submitting multiple requests for medical attention” that his family claims were denied. Between September 2025 and March 2026, four people died at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center, and “the families of the deceased allege medical care deficiencies” in all four instances, according to Cal DOJ.

Cal City was identified as having particularly poor conditions, despite being the state’s newest detention center. The report says that several Cal City detainees wept during their interviews with California DOJ officials. The detainees described being constantly cold because the facility’s air conditioning was set to a very low temperature, even in cold weather. The detainees were not given any additional clothing or blankets until just prior to the visit from state officials. Detainees who tried to cover air conditioning vents to stay warm were reportedly punished."

Full accountability: that’s what this country and our world needs to have for and from all of the bad deeds, horrendous acts, and the lives lost that are and can be attributed to POTUS 45 and 47 and his allies, minions, enablers and supporters where it can be done! This should sure increase the ranks of entrants into law schools as these acts and the volume of accountability needed for all of the misdeeds should require many years of legal actions against the “idiotic” trumpelthinskin”, his family and his enablers, both elected and the non-elected, appointed, etc., et al.

I have long been saying that it seems that there are those in America, who just had to give him a second term to cement himself [bury himself under] at the bottom of the presidential survey rankings and ratings lists!!!

It is probably very good that very few of us will live pass 100, or that a 200-year lifespan is [currently] impossible as because we all should feel and be highly embarrassed that during our lifetime’s, we elected—the first criminal to the position and role of President of the United States, not just once—but twice! Has there been a more humanly flawed individual ever to occupy this role and position?

Think about it people, the worst things—especially economically for Americans—have occurred under and by Republican presidents: the Great Depression, the Great Recession, 9/11, Covid pandemic, storming our nation’s Capitol, just to mention a few which doesn’t include the idiot-made mess that our country and other countries in the world are currently experiencing with no end in sight. Yes, we have a chance to slow it down with the 2026-midterms—but that’s to be seen. And really, to think that I once thought that the worst thing that might happen was that of having trump’s likeness in the hall of the Presidents’ exhibits at the Disney facilities. [If I were them, I think that they’re going to have to remove his likeness from their exhibits—if they already haven’t—at their exhibits and facilities for a long time into the future.]…isn’t this sad—not so much the exhibit’s issue—it’s that our generations were so stupidly ignorant, hateful and evil, that we allowed this long-lived embarrassment to exist? And No, I can’t ignore—nor am I going to ignore—the Epstein/trump Files and failures!

Postscript:

Just as I posted this, I was made aware of this article by the Morning Joe crew:

https://newrepublic.com/article/210550/trump-economy-republicans-tariffs-taxes

Amazingly, The New Republic, was my very first periodical subscription which happened when I was in high school.

Miselle's avatar

JL--Your mention of the "Hall of Presidents" really hit with me!

It's not a favorite of my family, and of the 5 times I chaperoned HS trips there, none of the kids even considered going inside. For me, it was a nice cool and quiet break in the midst of a hot summer day there.

In 2023, we took a family trip there with my now-adult kids. (Disney with adults is a pleasure in itself!) I knew the bastard was now part of the exhibit and I thought--NOPE! not going into it.

I certainly hope that His Misrablesness is removed, or even better, have an entire couple minutes with him in the spotlight and the voiceover lists all the sins this man committed, how he almost took down our country, and yet we OVERCAME.

JL Riley's avatar

Miselle, almost each and every time that I've visited Disney World, I have gone to the Presidents' exhibit. It just been a must with me, although it has been decades since my last visit. Nevertheless, I must counter something that you said: "...or even better, have an entire couple minutes with him in the spotlight and the voiceover lists all the sins this man committed, how he almost took down our country, and yet we OVERCAME." The problem with this is that they're too numerous to mention, a couple of minutes isn't sufficient time and would spoil one's trip to Disney and just overshadow our other Presidents! The big impact would be to have the spotlight on the positions of '45 and '47 void or a statement indicating that he wasn't worthy of mentioning...or to remind the attendees/visitors, that the American electorate somehow made a mistake - not just once - but twice?

Thank you; Heather. I can’t remember how I found you. Your letters got me through the first term of office. I couldn’t watch the news, but I knew it was important for me to know what was happening to our Country. My wife, of many decades died six years ago and I couldn’t imagine how I would get through this horrible situation we were in. As a Lesbian, I know what it means to be an outsider. Your letters have been an anchor. I am informed about what is happening in this Country and able to stay balanced despite the clear goal of this government to keep us off balance.

Miselle's avatar

Chris, I hope that with this community, you feel welcomed and NOT an outsider! I don't think I've seen your comments before, but you've been here much longer (over 2 years) than the amount of time I see noted and feel compelled to WELCOME the new person. I decided to appoint myself the Walmart greeter of this forum a few months back when I detected rising despair--not just only of those here but within myself. As I started seeing more and more new faces, it made me realize that we are a force to be reckoned with. As HCR says more trolls are chasing her Letter and podcasts because they are afraid: of her and the truth she reports and her followers who are politically active.

So, belatedly WELCOME! 👋🏼 It's good to have you and your voice here!

Hope everyone got a chance to see tonight's crescent Moon and Venus very close on the lower left above the horizon in the West as the Sun was setting, with Jupiter nearby and higher above and further to the upper left. I thought about pictures when I was looking at that 'great sight in the glorious sky', but I don't have a camera anymore, and only a flip phone. But I stayed out just to sit with it. I've just read a biography of Buddha, and I thought about how he wouldn't have had a camera, even if he could have. I did hold my fingers up in a box to frame the photo I might have taken.

I am so glad you wrote about this.

I was reading a book review a couple of days ago and I ran across a comment that so describes our HCR and her LFAA. “The book treats history as an active force, not just a backdrop. “ Daniel Grace is the author and the review was by Book Trib. But that statement could not better describe what HCR does with every breath she takes. She uses history to instruct, to inspire, to illuminate much that has been forgotten, and to reclaim much that has been twisted into the most heinous lies. She reclaims our history, flaws and all, with every action designed to tell the truth to a country reeling from lies and propaganda. Her work treats history as an active force, not a backdrop.

Miselle's avatar

Good to see a comment from you, as I haven't seen any longer ones in awhile. Might be I just have missed them as of late, I haven't been able to get through too many. I can be easily overwhelmed, as I was yesterday. Many irate calls to Congress made my chest hurt.

wow Miselle, thank you for that! I've been - as they say in my profession - keeping busy. Yes, I took some time away from the upsetting activity of being here and have been trying to apply myself to finding an exceptional and wonderful companion with whom to spend the remaining time that I have to exist in this lifeform. HCR is so brilliant and overwhelmingly industrious, and I also get enlightened not just by her, but also by many who place comments here to her letters. Sad that we only go around once - moderation in life is also a critical and important element...stay well and be safe Miselle, and thank you!

Along with food, shelter and clothing, casting an enlightened and educated votes in a democratic society should be in the top five or six items of what it takes for one to call themselves an American! …and I’m told that Civics is no longer required curriculum—Wake Up folks—at least US history and civics should be required grade school curriculum(s) or should it be curricula!!!

There are water people and there are tree people. I belong to the former and have spent many hours sailing, rafting, and diving in water. There is something powerful about rising and falling on ocean swells that energizes one. When focusing on my serenity I picture myself in a bed of kelp riding up and down with each swell. For my wife that is a source of nightmares, she is a tree person. We will have been married 62 years in August. Water people and tree people can get on well together. Hopefully, one day we'll have a leader who can unite we the people under one tent.

Dale Rowett AR OK VA PA NY's avatar

Robert, the Indigenous peoples kindly refer to my kind as "two-spirit." So it comes as no surprise that I am both a tree and water person. How fortunate that I live in a dense forest of mainly Loblolly Pine, along with American Holly, American Hornbeam, Black Hickory, Black Oak, Flowering Dogwood, Pecan, Sassafras, Shellbark Hickory, Sweetgum and White Oak, on the shore of a private lake. The nation has gone insane, but my home reminds me that sanity and serenity still exist.

Michele's avatar

Dale, I love the idea of two-spirit.

Miselle's avatar

Dale, love your comment!

My house is on a small lot in a Chgo suburb. On either side of me, the backyards have in-ground pool and NOT EVEN A BLADE OF GRASS. In the adjoining three yards to the rear, two have large decks/above ground pools and maybe a bit of lawn for the dog. Only one house has a few trees.

In my yard, I have an enormous and OLD maple (it was fully mature when we moved in over 40 years ago) a rather small birch and a big Linden I planted 35 years ago. Tons and tons of perennials, and I put in not as many annuals anymore, but I do a lot of container gardening and I have blackberry and raspberry bushes.

When the neighbors aren't blaring their outdoor speakers, it is such a pleasure to sit on the patio and watch the hummingbirds. (And I don't object to people enjoying music outdoors, but I wish they wouldn't dial it up to 11 all the time.)

BLB's avatar

Yeah.. my husband is a water person. I tried to be. The water is beautiful and powerful.. and like your wife it scares me to death. I enjoy it from the shore.

Michele's avatar

Robert, I consider the ocean holding the primordial energy and I always loved hearing the rise and fall of the waves. For a few years I attended a reiki group which was held in a house above the ocean. I loved going to sleep listening to the sound of the waves. I also love trees although ice and wind have eliminated nearly all of the large trees in our yard. I do have fruit trees.

Miselle's avatar

Very well stated.

I can barely dog paddle and so water is only calming when I watch it, not be in it. I've tried to learn to swim by actual teachers and can't do it. It seems like it should be natural, but it isn't for me.
