Maybe I’m too cynical but I’m not ready to give Cheney credit for doing the right thing because she believes in doing the right thing. Maureen Dowd’s recent column points out that Liz Cheney is inextricably linked to the man who pushed the big lie of his era— her father. I think she’s separating herself from the trump crowd and preparing to rally more rational (but not any less members of the movement conservatives) Republicans to support her in a bid for the presidency. I don’t have any special inside info but I don’t trust her and I certainly oppose her canonization as a protector of democracy

She’s certainly not my hero Bev. But isn’t it strange how it has come to this, that we are taking her side on *anything*? It has taken this apocalyptic and I would argue existential turn of the White Racist Party, the Ghastly Old Pigs, for us to side with Liz (retch) Cheney.

Bev, Liz Cheney’s sudden rise to hero of democracy has alarmed me too. That said, our democracy is on the ropes and we need all the allies we can get. If she (and we) succeed she will emerge as a very powerful opponent. But, at least we can deal with that that problem on a democratic playing field. No easy answers here.
