Someone else has pointed out one hopeful scenario.

I wish they understood that this is LITERALLY all it takes: for ONE person to stand up; but something is holding them back. Fear? Money? I fear the late Sen. John McCain was correct that Citizens United really was the last nail in Democracy's coffin.
Are you hallucinating or dreaming. i like it but is there a repub that will stand tall. they are midgets in the worse sense.
BTW Phil. do you subscribe to Greg Olear? he is the man who uses literature and and incredible skill to make his points, especially on Sunday posts. sounds like your kind of guy.
He really does just stun me sometimes. His post re Sara Teasdale recently was so parsed, considered, and thoughtful that I felt like I had been to a master class.
Right now I subscribe to Heather's, Timothy Snyder's, Rebecca Solnit's, and Johnny Rochat's.
I get Linda Weide's -- a regular here -- but that's just by her generosity. No subscription, but, then I never see her dunning up "upgrade to paid" as everyone else does.
You would really enjoy his post re Sara Teasdale and her poem Barter. It’s a keeper for me. There are some I would like to get but no time or money, especially Rebecca Solnit. Get some but can’t comment. No time anyway…

Often hallucinating, JDinTX. Often dreaming.
