Some might have reason to worry, but as former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien recently declared "We all know that even when we satisfy one demand, Mr. Trump will come back with another, bigger demand. That’s not diplomacy; it’s blackmail."
Bridget, Isn’t writing a letter what got the Tuft student arrested and detained? It feels like they will soon cross the line and it will not matter what papers you have to prove your citizenship ’rights.’ And without needing to comply with 14th Amendment due process how can ’people like us’ prove anything when ICE comes knocking (or barging in) and the agent doesn’t like the tilt of your (or your family member’s or friend’s) tattoo?
Yes. I am doing everything I can to encourage letter writing. Also, going out and about whilst participating in public displays of aggravation is making me wonder about whether people like us will ever prevail.
I’m completely with you, Bridget. Keep speaking out and encouraging us all to do so. We need more people like you. I think more are starting to come out and join the cause. Thank you.
Yes, and that is wrong. Currently sick at heart and mad in my mind. Fielding emotions dating back to the period of time when Hitler ruled and relatives of my daughter in law were unable to leave their homeland.
My grandson, a 3 year old who delights me each and every day, would be cast off as to its Final Solution. In the meantime, I can’t abide any aspect of that mind set encroaching upon my beloved country.
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”— Frank Wilhoit
During the intervening years, my husband, my two brothers in law, and several best friends during the 1966 to 1976 years who served in the US Military during the confusing timeframe when the draft ended, made me remember.
Not surprised. In the meantime, people like us

My husband’s parents were both born in Alberta.
My dearly departed mother in law was a shooting guard on the Canmore Women’s basketball team which won the province championship in 1924.
Bridget, so glad you mentioned the sport! lol

Always strength in numbers. Please, all of us, send letters, emails, and texts to the powers that be.

Hitler made everyone live in fear. Children ratted on their parents. Neighbours ratted on neighbours........ and the BROWN SHIRTS came.

Always on blast from the past in terms of people who actually served.
