President Reagan told the World that America was "the Shining City on a Hill" and the World believed him.

Trump and Musk now show the World that America is a shitty car lot, with criminal hucksters and crypto scammers. And the World is believing them.

Thank you for this thoroughgoing 12-minute report. And for ending on the Mark Kelly note. Always remind ourselves: Musk is not even an American. He wasn't born under the Constitution. He is uneducated and ignorant about what truly makes America great.

is it even possible for 47 and mr musk to say anything without using slurs, derogatory/demeaning terms, and/or slinging recklessly dangerous rhetoric at anyone who disagrees? and what’s with ‘illegal’ protest? and lastly (for this post) i’m printing all of dr richardson’s letters. i certainly hope it doesn’t come to this but i’m concerned her voice, too, might be silenced. god help us.

Thanks for calling out these insurrectionists and traitors. An another note, Michigan MAGA is aligning itself with the MAGA Congress to implement the SAVE Act as a constitutional amendment. HJR B, as it's known poses as "common sense election security" to guarantee that illegal alines don't vote in our elections. This is nothing more than White Replacement Theory being enacted into law. The time is now to stop these fascists in their tracks!

i’m so tired of the illegal aliens crap. (a phrase that is oft thrown around by maga). i’ve been a poll worker for years and have made it my mission to understand election procedures and laws. by and large, folks who are in this country illegally are not revealing themselves in order to get a voter registration card and be added to the voter rolls. and aliens are those big headed, green-skinned, bug-eyed creatures that live in spaceships. when it comes to election integrity, the threat comes from those who must maintain power. i agree that something wonky happened in november.

If the United States somehow finds a way to survive this madness and revive the democratic core principles that this nation was founded on, professor Cox will have earned the highest commendations that can be bestowed upon a private individual. And as for musk's childish comments to Sen Kelly, just keep in mind that any accusations from this administration are almost always really a confession. God help us all.

I've been on anti-depressants since Mr. Trump was elected--Doctors orders. He says I have PTSD due to the situation with our new "leaders"...this is NOT what I expected in my first months of retirement !!

Trump declared a national emergency (due to ????) that enabled him to start levying tariffs willy nilly. Congress can undo the declaration and stop the tariffs, and Democrats have introduced a resolution to do just that. But, Surprise! Republicans aren't interested in raising their heads.

How can ruining an economy not matter to those Republicans? Are they more afraid of Trump and Musk than their own constituents? Do they fear that once he becomes the official imperial president that he will throw them in jail for being traitors? Weird.

Both Trump and Musk are becoming increasingly delusional on top of their bizarre baselines. Can they be drug tested, like other Americans who are in positions of responsibility toward others?

Do we have to wait for a Democrat Congress to impeach and convict this dangerous President? How can we get Republicans to help vote these guys out of Congress?

Heather, I just listened to the Uncovered podcast with Anthony Davis and Ron Filipkowski.

They reported that the Republicans have attached two poison pills to the Continuing Resolution.

1) allows Trump to impose tariffs unilaterally and congress is authorizing him to do that. They are giving up their veto power.

2) continue the current spending levels so that none of the current DOGE cuts are part of it, however, turning around and giving the Executive branch and Musk the discretion to make cuts recessions on their own unilaterally. This would give Musk permission to go in and make whatever cuts he and Trump want to make. This would undercut the current court cases which say that Musk doesn't have the legal authority to make these cuts.

Davis and Filipkowski made it sound like the Democrats might actually ok this resolution because not to do so would shut down govt. spending and they would be blamed for that.

They also said the Democrats could have told America about these attachments and why they wouldn't support this resolution.

It's not too late to do that!!!

Which is worse? Shutting down govt spending until the Republicans can be brought back to the bargaining table or let Trump and Musk continue on their way to shutting down our Democracy?

Dusky Musky is barely an American. How many citizenships? He certainly did not grow up schooled in the Constitution and decency. Yes, maybe he should leave..........it up to those who do care and know.

Trump 2.0 will be worse than Covid on the world's supply chain. These behaviors are killing the goose that lays the golden egg. We are infected as a people by the Trump MAGA virus. We must fight it off and demonstrate courage in the face of adversity. These tariffs may start the process of waking up those who believed in Trump.

I was disappointed not to read about this here. Will you please report on it in your next newsletter? Yesterday Donald Trump, during a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, said that Chuck Schumer is a Palestinian, not a Jew. Mr. Trump seems to be the only one with First Amendment rights to say anything he wants. Why has the press ignored this outrageous comment? One that is equally offensive to Palestinians and Jewish people. We should all be offended. Please write about this in your next posting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n804BwrNwQo&ab_channel=MSNBC

The Trump administration's actions create a real dilemma for civil servants and soldiers. Whereas mis-rule just makes investors lose money or ordinary folk lose work or injustice prosper for all, mis-rule forces civil servants and soldiers to decide at what moment doing their assigned work makes them an enemy to the rule of law, life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Should a civil servant who is ordered to not mail out social security checks mail them out anyway (But not refuse to cut names from mailing lists)? Should the soldier refuse the order to invade Canada (But not Panama)? Should the cyber expert ordered to not plan against Russia aggression, plan for it anyhow (But not plan against Israel or France)?

O, Buttocks!

Heather Cox Richardson, the responsibility to resist is one of those issues that it is always too early in the morning to contemplate!

However, we must! And thank the sub stack historian who brings it up, too!
