He's been "shotgunned in the face" three times by the courts (his words) and knows "they don't like me any more." Forget all the other cases SDNY is handling, he's so terrified of the coming SCOTUS decision on his tax records and Deutsche Bank next week that he had Barr carry out the failed coup against Berman. His "crowd" was 6,624, and he was worse than the over-the-hill-has-beens who play Branson Missouri.
It's the tax evasion case he's going to be indicted for 5 minutes after he leaves office in January that's going to put him in an orange jumpsuit the rest of his life. He knows it. And he can't resign and have Pence pardon him since the case hasn't been brought yet.
Thank you for all this incredible information, with sources, all in one spot! I love getting it first thing in the morning and I read it all to my husband during breakfast. There were so many “gems” in this letter but the really surprising one was the fact that Lindsay Graham agreed to let the NY senators stop a nomination that they did not agree with for replacement to this post. That is huge, in my view.
In the foul mood that Tulsa/Berman/COVID/SCOTUS will deepen in Trump, his reaction is likely to be two-fold: find someone to blame for the disaster that he so richly deserves....and to lash out against all and sundry in whom he sees a threat......the wounded bear or the rabid fox (not the entertainment network of course)....before it turns to depression and a desire to run away. He'll get dirtier than ever as his crowds get smaller and smaller and as his ability to impose his propaganda on the news diminishes....before he starts whimpering and moaning that it wasn't his fault, he's not responsible and he'd never wanted to be there anyway!
Time for the renewal to build carefully and thoughtfully while the GOP agonizes over their fate. Joe Biden can widen his coalition even further by also reaching out to the people that are resisting Trump from the inside and within the GOP....but not necessarily the John Boltons of this world. The people, the virus and unemployment data will drive Trump from office. Joe Biden's qualifications for the job are reasonable but essentially it is the "good person" with values and integrity, which are currently so sorely lacking, that the American people want in the person to oversee the coming changes to the way the country is run.
I agree. If Joe Biden simply sticks to message and does not get in the mud to wallow with the Gas-lighter in Chief and if he picks the right VP candidate, the Republic may commence the road to healing come January 20, 2021.
Trump himself hired Berman. He is responsible for Gorsuch being on the Supreme Court. He thought he was buying loyalty and protection. Trump has no concept of how integrity works. And oh btw, his admission he slowed testing while people were dying is shocking. Not that he did it, but that he saw no problem admitting it. Glad to see his support eroding. It’s past time.
There is one minor oversight in this post which is being covered internationally. The Trump campaign got Tulsa police to "remove"Sheila Buck. She was arrested for "trespassing" (she says she had a ticket to attend the rally) and "obstruction" (she wasn't in the way) as she prayed outside the rally while wearing a Black Lives Matter tee shirt. MSNBC broadcast the arrest live as it happened. Although I haven't seen confirmation of whether she did have a ticket, she had not gone inside the venue. Here is a glimpse of how that is being covered in the UK: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election/trump-rally-protest-tulsa-oklahoma-arrest-protester-a9577546.html
Let's hear it for the kids who know how to use social media. Made the tRump campaign people look pathetic for not seeing this ahead of the rally. I hope some of those "kids" can vote in November.
Thank you so much, Heather for today’s synopsis. I have to admit I kinda have a smile on my face right now 😁
It leaves me with some questions.
It’s obvious that tRump didn’t fire Berman, Barr did. But only the president has the authority to fire Berman. So, is he really fired???
Since Barr DOES have the authority to fire an interim U.S. Attorney, did he “through a bone” to Berman to get him to step down with the intent of soon firing her and replacing with his original pick?
Barr lied twice in two days; any ramifications for this?
Is tRump crazy?!?!? Let’s do less testing so the numbers look better?!?!? He is quite literally killing American citizens by misleading them. Does this make him a traitor?
And finally, could it be that tRump is just the “frontman” for the republicans?? (It WOULD explain their blind loyalty) If not, then Barr should did a great job of making him look like one.
(Sorry for all the questions, there is just so much information to try to digest, phew!)
I think your point about Trump being the front man is spot on. He has surrounded himself by loyalists much smarter and more politically savvy who are desperate to maintain power/return to an oligarchy in order to mandate their agenda. Trump has a huge base, so despite his idiocy, they tolerate his missteps because, so far, it helps their plan.
If you want a terrific visual of a defeated Trump, check out the last photo in Robin Ghivan's very excellent column in today's WaPo. Despite the blustering and posturing the small crowd of 6300 +/-, sure took the wind out of Donald's sails.
I love how the teens pranked Trump and his campaign manager into thinking over 1 million supporters signed up. I have a lot of hope for Gen Z.
Furthermore, because the campaign didn't put a cap on the number of tickets, 19,000 supporters still could have shown up and filled the arena, but they didn't. A win-win.
I wonder how many lives the kids saved from getting sick Covid-19 and possibly dying. What they did was amazing.

Today’s Letter brought to mind the crocodile in Peter Pan that stalks Captain Hook – tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock … time is running out, Sir.

The gal that organized it is an Iowan and a Gen X'er. And here I thought my generation failed the younger. I was wrong.

Many in addition to tic toc pranked the event. This is such a brilliant statement. The bragging in advance about needing overflow - Priceless.

He got a brutal beat down.
With his makeup shining, he looks otherworldly.
Thank you for another great post!

Six people got arrested in Tulsa, yesterday. I read no reports of violence or looting. Tulsa dodged a bullet.
Thanks for making my day. I just subscribed.
