I do worry with baited breath. I was born 78 years ago today, one week to the day after D-Day. I have embraced that fact through the years with honor and reverence. When I was a very young U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant, I would have surrendered my life for my country. No b/s! If that was what I was called to do, then so be it. God …

God in Heaven, I cannot wrap my head around the horrors that I now witness.
I am fully non-plused by the toxic slime traitors such as Trump and his minions. They all belong on the gallows; not Mar-a-Lardo.
My family can be traced back to the Mayflower 1620 (2x) then there are 3 additional lines who arrived in the now USA in the mid 1600s. We have been through every war, been slaves, been slave holders, inter married, had kkk members, etc. we've been in every upheavel (both sides). Whatever political event happened in the USA... you name it, we've been there. Yet, here we are. With a president who pretended he had bad feet so he could not go into the military to defend what he is now trying to subvert, the democratic process of the USA. It's truly unbelievable that after 400 years of struggle and strife, we have done a 180 in our efforts to create a fair and cohesive society, and headed down the rabbit hole into chaos, hatred, and pure hell because of the greed of a few. Like you, I am hoping that before my time is up that I see America pull itself together and get back on track.
My dad's side came over in the 1600s through what now is known as The Chesapeake. I doubt we were posh enough to journey on the Mayflower or any of the three ships which I believe followed her. We are Scots/Scots-Irish (Celts, which is why use "Keltik" or “Keltus” as my nom de plume). My mother's side, as best we know, is Scots/Welsh. We were tobacco farmers; violin makers; hard hewn but well spun.
My distant paternal grandfather fought in the American Revolutionary War, Virginia 9th Regiment, Battles of Germantown and Brandywine; discharged out of Valley Forge. By right of that, I am a Son of the American Revolutionary War. Our family lived in Kentucky at the time of the Civil War, a neutral state. Two uncles served during WWII: Korea, Japan and Germany. My older uncle retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army in 1962; the year I joined our USAF. I exited honorably, Staff Sergeant/E5, with commendations.
The rage and anger I feel at this juncture in our Republic's history. I am fully disgusted with most Members of Congress, both sides. Where in hell is the leadership; the bold, the brave, the robust? Republicans are the domestic archenemy, the bully. The Democrats are wimps, actually walking in fear of the bully. You want to know what I believe will be the worst of it? Trump will walk. Cowardice and tyranny make for a toxic and volatile brew. That concoction also makes way for acquittal. I still await the real, true and authentic profile in courage.
I get your rage. (Nice to meet another genealogist. Knowing one's history is important, and can be very interesting and fun too. :-)) As for Trump, maybe the committee will provide hard proof as it progresses. At the very least, it will go in the public record and those choosing to vote him in cannot pretend he is a saint. However, while I too am not sure this will result in his incarceration, I am pinning my hopes on him being taken down for tax evasion/tax fraud. Atty' Gen Letitia James is determined to lock him up. :-) If anyone can do it, it is her. And I can hardly wait. Those black & white federal tax laws are not to be ignored as fake news, and Trump would not be the first "billionaire" to end up behind bars. However, this still leaves the problem of Americans voting in Trump in the first place. I was just told that an analysis of voters shows that it is the middleclass that pretty much supports Trump because he promised them lower taxes and tax breaks for their businesses, while the lower class votes for Biden in order to secure social program funding. I was also told that %34 of American households make less than $52,000 per year. They don't vote for Trump. Perhaps in the end, globalization (which encourages industry to look for the cheapest labor/production costs) and practicing American style capitalism (save financial institutions and let everyone else crash and burn) is the reason people see the American dream is never going to happen, so they better take what little they can (lower taxes) no matter what happens to society. Otherwise, I have no answers. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing. I hope we see a light at the end of this tunnel.
Happy birthday, Vince. Up until 2016, I would have never imagined the direction America has taken. There's still time to claw our way back to sanity, but as we know there are no guarantees.
We need and require ROBUST figures to do battle with our domestic enemies. Sadly, I see not even one truly robust figure among Democrats. They wallow in fear, weak-kneed, hoping the Republicans will simply go away.. I only mention my b'day because of its significance to me as an historical marker. Your "claw back" is apropos. Careerist politicians have been clawing toward fascism for decades. Their tunnel vision is killing our Republic.
What exactly, Keltik Warrior, would you have the “wallow(ing) in fear, weak-kneed” Democrats do? What could possibly be more fundamental, more noble, more dramatic, more laser-targeted than an exhaustive investigation and subsequent exposure of the crimes of the Orange Idiot and his sycophants? A Shoot-’em-up, rough-riding, blood-lust-satisfying meleé? What? What’s your solution?
I for one am UPTOHERE with criticism of Democrats that is not then tempered with at least one ONE better idea for how we should be saving this nation’s soul.
Celebrate robustly their successes, which are many. Broadcast to the world how horrible the Republican Party is. Take their message to the people (to the streets) across the land. Show some stones. I am not alone in my criticism. Numerous Democratic-positive pundits are shouting out the message. How is it Republicans have infiltrated so many local and state legislatures without a strong, resounding challenge from the Democrats? Do you actually believe that Schumer offers anything? That Pelosi's school marm persona inspires? "AOC" seems to be the only one with any spine. Yes, Raskin, Schiff and others are undertaking a Herculean task. But, that is isolated to those of us actually paying attention. To win hearts and minds, the Dems must provide reasons for people to do so.
Schumer is "powerless" because he wants to be. When people chastise me for calling the Democrats "weak-kneed", it is the Schumers in the Party who I have in mind. I grew up in Maryland farm country just outside Baltimore when Pelosi's father, Tommy D'Alessandro was Mayor of Baltimore. Pelosi comes from strong political stock, most certainly the much stronger counter to Schumer, the perennial gas bag. Yet, Pelosi does not project robust strength.

All points well taken, Keltik Warrior.
Indeed, Schumer is powerless.
Pelosi may not exude power, per se, but that woman has got the stones and knows how and when to use them.
Team AOC, indeed, Team Bernie, Team Tim Ryan, Team Sheldon Whitehouse,, Team Raskin, yes, many more, are worthy of our praise and support.
(I submit we were ALL caught off guard with the magnitude of this Orange Monster's fraud and abuse.)
