Ha, never know! There was a spot off the side of the road along the south fork w/ a rough track (4X4 helpful) to drive a bit down toward the river & a nice sandy generous sized “nook” at the edge of the tree line to make camp….spent some lovely days there!!! A great river to have a mask & fins for underwater cruising!

I've ridden my motorcycle over Hwy 36 a few times (never too many!). Where are you along the Mad River?

Near-ish the coast, but to the east of the coastal foothills and so much much sunnier…in Blue Lake, a wee town of about 1200. It’s 10 or so miles east of Arcata (where Cal Poly Humboldt is—still trying to get used to the name change having worked at the Univ for 40 yrs!) along Hwy 299. Town of the famous Dell ‘Arte School of Physical Theater:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell%27Arte_International_School_of_Physical_Theatre & a great brewery—Mad River Brewery (now tribally owned/operated) & also the Logger Bar (founded in 1889) & the Blue Lake Rancheria Casino & Hotel (save 25 cents a gallon @ their gas station if you pay cash!). Basically a sleepy little town known as “the peaceable hamlet”, the term coined by a local weekly newspaper years ago. Been here in BL for 34 yrs (moved to Humb Co in ‘68 to attend college) & is the farthest inland I’ve lived since I was about 12 yrs old! The area, known by the very true phrase, is “behind the Redwood Curtain”!

Nice! I have two friends who were "Marching Lumberjacks" from HSU. I only recently saw a guy wearing a Cal Poly Humboldt shirt to realize their name had changed. I get Mad River beer when I am in Crescent City (my f-i-l lived there; he passed a year and a half ago, and we still love the area). I've ridden through Blue Lake on several motorcycle rides. For about 10 years a group of us "Girly Riders" would get together and do a motorcycle trip together; one of them is one of the Marching Lumberjacks I mentioned earlier. Most of us have moved/quit riding/etc. but we still try and get together from time to time.
