About Donald Trump's "performance" yesterday in Atlanta at the National Association of Black Journalists as appalling as it was---from my perspective we are witnessing another kind of danger: the meltdown of a malignant narcissist. Once such a person knows they have nothing to lose, the implosion is enormous and all encompassing: if they have nothing to lose everyone is going down with them. I suspect DJT knows his campaign is doomed but more importantly, he PERSONALLY is doomed. Why not let racial slurs fly, what does HE have to lose? He is more dangerous than ever, because there is nothing more dangerous than someone who has nothing left to lose.
Thank you for your amazing ability to make sense of all the noise. I cannot listen to Trump anymore. He makes me sick and ashamed that part of our country actually think he’s a viable candidate for the highest office in the land. There’s only one clear cut choice, Kamala Harris. I’m fully behind her and support whatever she deems necessary to restore our country to greatness. President Biden has done an amazing job and has set the stage for Kamala to take us into a new era.
Particularly in light of what just happened with the prisoner swap, I can't imagine that happening on DJT's watch. Or him much caring about Americans in peril in other countries. I wonder how that is playing out on Fox.
He, whose name should not be spoken, wanted the troops on the street because of the yellow streak that runs down his spine.
With regards to women, his ugly and schoolyard behavior shows he is massively insecure. Just these two traits alone makes him weak and therefore, dangerous.
He was hiding in The Bunker! then after troops threw tear-gas and cleared the protestors he marched out and took a photo op picture in front of the church holding up a Bible that he has never in his life opened.
There are days that I wake up, but wonder if I’m still asleep, having some kind of nightmare. How can we, as a people, even be considering someone like Trump for the office of President - again. Have voters learned nothing from Trump’s previous administration? Maybe there is a collective amnesia about the continuous dumpster fire that were his years in office? I listen to Prof Richardson’s Politics Chat on YouTube each week. The information can sometimes be very grim, but she always ends with reasons to have hope for the future, that WE are in control of our country, that living lives filled with joy are the antidote to authoritarianism and dictatorship. I hope she’s right, but it won’t happen unless we all work at it and push back.
For the past three + years GOP has been stuffing the states with election officials who are deniers /- see Rolling Stone Mag article. Risk is not being discussed, acknowledged, analyzed - could be the biggest risk to election results/outcome. The numbers they traced may be the tip or it will tip the transfer of power. Do you have a historical perspective on this upcoming coup? https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/trump-swing-state-officials-election-deniers-1235069692/
Ever since I heard the caught recording of Roger Stone saying they had judges and people lined up for the day of the election to 'control the outcome of the vote', I've been quite worried as well and wonder if anyone is working on that. I follow Democracy Docket. Marc Elias has been fighting and tracking the over 700+ voter suppression cases in the country.
This post made me have a "Bay of Pigs" moment. April, 1961. I was 12. I was listening to the radio. I couldn't get my parents to listen, too. There was no one around me who saw what was going on and why. It was so alarming. Different reasons and players, but so similar overall. I've come to realize that vast swaths of the country are simply not paying attention yet. But the numbers are growing. Whew. Fingers crossed.

Margo Stahl's comment (below) resonates. While Trump's shtik--manufacturing "kicky," outrageous comments that are designed to ingratiate himself with his base, has, until recently, worked for him, I don't believe this "shtik" will buy him the election in November '24 any more than it did in '20. However, judging by those who deliver his marching orders--the army of both the rich and the legislators who masterminded "the steal," the "false elector" scheme, and the Jan 6 coup, this army has had more practice and is certain to be even more determined to prevail by whatever means in '24 than in '20, as has also been the (Supreme?) Court. Since we know that this is inevitable, has our government--the democracy aspect of it, prepared itself for this exigency? Let us not be fooled, again. Now is the time to be prepared for what is, most assuredly, to come.

Profound analysis, thanks for sharing.

Wow. That’s stunning to realize what could have happened. I have those guys on a pedestal who stood up to Trump and for America.

lmaugham987@gmail.com. I just want Heather Cox Richardson. I've paid for her newsletter and I don't want to get an app for Substack. Is this possible?
