Why are you such a naysayer, John? Not even one glimmer of hope left in you?

Sharon, I have a lot of hope, seriously. I feel that these Hearing will make the existing choir feel good and accomplish not much else. My hope is that when midterm elections come around the Democrats have enough intelligent, dignified, and qualified candidates to turn the tide of power. I have always felt that the Democratic Party does not do enough to support their candidates. For lack of any better idea, I feel that 100% of our effort should be in taking back control of the Senate and maintaining control of the Executive.

Unfortunately I’m seeing CRT become the litmus test in local elections. We’ve seen that movie before. Focus on Federal elections, sure. But the state houses are the bodies pushing Federalism.

Gail, a recent poll in NC showed that the population does not agree with our General ASSembly's move to further cut corporate taxes, eventually to zero in 2024. They are swimming against the populace tide on several other issues as well.

These are the people who took over in 2010, and thus gerrymandered the state worse than it's ever been, and ram-rodded their (and ALEC's) agenda down our throats over the past 10 years.

In my county of residence, a Democrat has not been elected to public office since 1976, and that was a county commissioner who served one term. The fix, as they say, is in in this county. If a Dem even gets on the ballot, it's a miracle. Out of 100 counties, we are not an outlier, I hate to say.

I have often thought we could run Jesus Christ on the Dem ticket in Randolph County and the good church goers would not vote for him with a "D" after his name.

Democrats carry a heavier load. What’s the difference in workload (especially fundraising) when all you have to do is obstruct progress, ignore science and experts, and create a few demagogic sound bites? How much time does it take to do nothing vs combatting real challenges? Republicans only need to tow the delusional line of TFG to get enough Super PAC funding for their campaigns. There’s no other business Republicans are doing. We do need a lot of wins next fall.

Yes, we do.

And serious work on gerrymandering and Citizen's United?

All good. In any other time exactly what’s needed.

In this case, not enough. One side has drawn battle lines (and crossed them). I cannot believe that this will not bring about a major reckoning, because this committee by its nature and declared purpose, has drawn its own battle lines.

There should be indictments. The former President’s iniquities should be fully exposed. The other side’s offensive (in both senses of the word) should be brought to a halt - at long last.
