..."Democratic Party’s willingness to trust the liars and traitors on the right." Please give examples. Frankly I hadn't noticed the January 6 Committee, Beto O'Rourke, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, AOC, Cory Booker, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Gretchen Whitmer, Andy Beshear, Michelle Obama, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, and thousands of Democratic Party politicians, millions of Democratic voters and even commenters in these Letters from an American doing that.

Oh, there is no shortage of Democratic hand-wringing. I grant you that. Every fundraising email I get says, "The awful Republicans took my lunch money! Please send $5 so I can buy a baloney sandwich!"

But where are the brutally effective counter measures? January 6th? From what I've seen, that was mostly Liz Cheney's brainchild. She saw the need to make the hearings an emotional gut punch and package each takeaway for the evening news.

Polonius was a fool but Shakespeare put some great advice in his mouth. Here's a relevant bit:

Beware of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,

Bear’t that the opposed may beware of thee.

In other words, when your opponent leaves you no choice but to hit back hard, spare no effort to leave them leaking. What have we, the Democrats done as a party to make Republicans beware of us?

IMO, The Jan 6 hearings are one of the best things out of DC in a long time. Cheney has been fabulous in her role. But now I see some Democrats calling for a not-Biden ticket in 2024 with Cheney as VP. For "unity." OMG. First of all, the GOP now hates her, so much for unity. Second, she's about as hard right as it gets without going alt. She voted with Trump 93% of the time.

This is another problem with Democrats: as soon as a Republican does the right thing, the legal thing, the expected thing, Democrats fall all over themselves with praise and even start saying things like "I'd vote for _____." Democrats need to have higher standards for the Party. No wonder Republicans have no respect for us. Our bar for them is way too low, and they know it.

I can't find the WaPo article, but it said that Cheney looked at things that made past hearings less effective: long testimony, complex questions and dead air and made a point of packaging the current hearings to avoid that.
