Aye, '...fall to bed', Heather Cox Richardson. You are our fairest historian and champion of democracy in America and around the world. Thank you for your fine work, wisdom and kindness. Peter Ralston, you have given us magic, with colors, composition, reflection and light to feed my soul. Thank you.
Thank you, Heather. What an ugly & cruel week it's been.. This is the photo I didn't realize I needed until I saw it. And thank you, Peter. Breathtaking.
And thank you to the folks whose insights here help me to realize that we ARE many &, as Heather often reminds us, our voices matter!
What an incredibly beautiful image. Sea glass in the making. We all need this beauty and tranquility right now. Thank you Heather, and Peter for the photo. Rest well.
We did, last summer, and you’ll find Peter is such a warm and friendly guy whose spirit shines through his work. Don’t miss the popovers at Jordan Pond!
Longrfellow is one of my favorite poets. And the theme in Evangeline was not original with Longfellow. He got permission from the originator to do the piece. Longfellow was a professor at Harvard and his poem "The Village Blacksmith" was about the shop that was at Harvard Square in the 1850's. I learned (memorized) his poems in the 6th grade in a very small town in West Texas in 1952-1953. When I return every ten years or so I visit the gravesite of my teacher, Mrs. Lillian Brandenburg.
You were very precocious, Donna. I didn't get to Evangeline until I was in high school. Even at that, it took me years to realize the pain, the heartache.
Hey, David. Your "likes" often end up in my spam folder for some reason. But not to worry as I continue to "rescue" them by putting them back in my inbox where they belong. Bonne Nuit to you as well!
What a perfect picture to bring some calm into this tumultuous world. Th light reflected on the surface washing away the darkness. I can hear the sound of the waves coming to shore. Thank you professor, in word and pictures you soothe our hurting souls.
And you always come through for us Professor thank you forever. Have a beautiful weekend America loves you.

Oh, those colors! What a beautiful way to end this evening. Thanks to Peter and to you, Heather. Next week's just gotta be better.

What a week it has been!! Never forget that there are more of us than there are of them. We must organize, organize, organize.
We must VOTE VOTE VOTE
(Ooops! sounds like a right wing conspirator...)

Professor, it must be exhausting to do the work you do. A heartfelt thank you from an old guy for your work in trying to save our country.
We're heading to Acadia NP next week and I am SO EXCITED to make this gallery a destination en route ☺️

AF, there was a report on birdsongs at Acadia on NPR this morning. If you didn't hear it, I recommend you seek it out.

Acadia? Are you familiar with Longfellow's "Evangeline?" I recommend it.
No but I will check it out. Looks like a good read for the train. Thanks!

Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
1807 –1882
Prelude
'This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks,
Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight,
Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic,
Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean
Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest.'

How perfectly lovely the Prelude!
We were to memorize this Prelude - in some elementary grade and I still can recite it - thank you for giving me this joy tonight.
Thank you, Julie, for stopping by for this poetic journey with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Thanks, Fern
I read it as a student in the fifth grade. Thanks for the memory!

I hope the weather is better for you than it has been this past month. Enjoy the beautiful Park.
A simulacrum of calm in a world of turbulence.
Good night, Heather.
Definition ~ an image or representation of someone or something.
"a small-scale simulacrum of a skyscraper"
The photo inspires me to to take a deep breathe of peace and serenity and gratitude for Heather, Buddy, Peter, and the people who post here.

Y’all all help keep me sane. ❤️
Calm, peaceful waters to you, Professor Richardson, and to all the good souls who move this country to live up to its promise and ideals.
Lovely photo! Such wonderful composition and clarity. Looking at it, I can feel the dopamine coursing through my brain.
bonne nuit

Several others have mentioned my likes ending up in spam.Is it mine and noone else's? I use gmail and no likes ever end up in spam.
Mostly, it is yours. A few others end up in there, too, but once I press the "Not Spam" button for them, it gets corrected. Yours, not so much.
That happens to me at times as well. Hmmmmm?
that has not happened to me using gmail. Does it happen to you with anyone else's likes or just mine?
Thank you my family has had a rough 3 weeks and that’s a beautiful image
Sending wishes for peace & and a better tomorrow for you & your family, Dick.
Thank you Brenda, that is appreciated 🙏
Sweet dreams....

Thank you for that transcendent photo. Wow.
