Back in March, I remember being very concerned that Trump would be *just* presidential enough to get us through the pandemic; then take full credit for the work of public health experts, front line workers, etc., and declare victory in the "war" against the virus - setting himself up for a strong chance in November.
Obviously I shouldn't have worried. Could this have been botched any worse at the national level than it has been? His glaring ineptitude is on full display, as the hits just keep on coming and he looks like a deer in headlights. The best he's got is still some version of "It's going to disappear" magical thinking and the same tired racist and pandering B.S. he's been pedaling since Day 1. The one bright spot: It seems Americans are starting to figure it out, as he has nearly 60% disapproval rating in a poll out today.
Trump is making 2 basic assumptions that are patently false: firstly that if you scratch any white person hard enough you'll find a racist underneath and, secondly, therefore he's ok as in reality we are all like him underneath but we are afraid to admit it. Well Mr Trump, I've got news for you. No way on both counts and, thank goodness, the polls are confirming it every day. It is a classic symptom of the psychotic personality to assume that they are normal and all others are the ones who are deranged. Of course, any information that they receive that doesn't confirm this basic world-view can not possibly be allowed to either penetrate his conscious nor exist outside of that limited and opaque sphere...... and if it does it is "Fake News" and lies can deal with it.
The corollary for Trump is that any action or inaction, diversion or tangent dictated by his "gut" is the right and best thing to do and will be considered by every "white" person who is of course like him as being "good". For "Gut" we can read "the very fevered dark-side of his unconscious mind" and all the childhood and later fears that have been repressed into it. I'm looking forward to hearing more from his neice's book now released by the judges for July 28th publishing.
The Trump Rule, which is based on the principle of Occam's Razor (the simplest explanation of an event or phenomenon is usually correct) is: The explanation that uses stupidity and evil is always the right one with Trump and Trumpers.
The stupidity, the mendacity, the maliciousness, the malevolence, the ignorance, the evil - it's all a feature, not a bug. They do these things because they are these things.
There are many different forms of intelligence and non are precluded by most psychotic states. The "state" of each "sufferer" certainly orientates their usage of their grey cells for good or for bad.
agreed. his move to restrict H1B visas is chillingly cunning. Take the gaze away from back lives to the brown lives (60% of such visas are south asians) who have advanced degrees and have propelled much of the tech boom for the past three decades. Well educated whites moderates who are losing high paying jobs to asian immigrants might well be swayed. it comes down to what you can do for yourself and your family at the end of the day and if you don't have to compete with highly skilled asians for economic prosperity then that might top everything for some. If he can target maybe 10% white votes in this demographic then he could win.
In reading comments from a Washington Post opinion written by Brad Pascale, I came across the perfect name for the president...."Trumpelthinskin." Perfectly describes why his responses to everything are evil and ignorant as they are.
I tell ya, that Trump has a keen eye for hoaxes. He sure called it about these Russia bounties. Hey, what about this corona virus hoax? He called that one in February! Can't wait for it to be exposed, so we can all get back to money making, social inequality, and environmental destruction. Just like usual.
It certainly seems like trump is courting the white nationalists which is not only deplorable but also frightening. These people are Itching for a race war, waiting for the green light to act on their ideology. The arm chair racists (trump’s “silent majority”) may be emboldened enough to join these goose-stepping fools and act on their behalf, on his behalf.
I try not to engage in catastrophic “fortune telling” - even though I’m really good at it - but these times demand some fore thought. Not that we should become paralyzed by fear, but we that we might understand there may be some very dark days ahead and maintaining the resolve necessary to overcome them may be more difficult than we imagine.
HCR and the thoughtful folks in this community remind me that there are plenty of fearless truth-seekers out there. Hope abounds.
Yes, dark days are still to come. But remember good always overcomes evil. We know that things will never be the same. So we learn to live in the time we are in. We are doing it now!
Trump's re-election strategy is now clear: promote racism, ignore the pandemic, and do whatever Putin asks of him. Politically, this makes him a dead man walking.
He will implode from the pressures of a now-unstoppable landslide defeat, a depressed economy, the Russian bounty investigation, and looming scandals (taxes and loans, his niece's book, and potentially Ghislaine Maxwell's Epstein revelations).
The only question is when the end will come. I suspect the GOP power brokers are already discussing whether they want Pence or someone else on the November ballot. Not that it matters to the outcome. But could they prevent losing the Senate?
Yes, I stumble upon them, mostly on Twitter. Their irrational bleatings remind me of a one-time, ill-fated magic mushroom adventure in college 50 years ago. My reality was turned inside out. Friends and I decided to play cards in hopes of getting a grip. The cards made no sense, including the numbers. That's the delusional dimension Trump supports occupy. They're in for a shock.
Can’t help but wonder if a dose of mushrooms would bring the trumpsters back to reality. These folks are engaged in a brand of magical thinking I never thought possible.
It does seem like the protests against police murders of black people have disappeared from the news. The problem being protested has not gone away. Does anyone reading this know of a good source for ongoing coverage of continuing protests and follow-on actions?
This is what you get when complex political views are reduced to an antiquated two party system. I am tired of catering to the RNC and the DNC to execute the will of the public. Obviously these organizations work only to protect their interests and help create this "reality presidency" as long as it provides power.
In 1955, my family moved from inner city St. Louis to one of those “white suburbs.” My schools were integrated, but IDK where the black kids lived, but there weren’t any in St. Ann. A black family moved in and their house mysteriously burned down. It was assumed arson.
My last observance of racism in housing was in Hialeah in 1977, when a black friend of my partner Jim and I wanted to take over our apt when we left for India. The naive Cuban landlord actually told us he couldn’t rent to her because she was black. (Most Cubans here at that time were white & off the boat from segregated 1959 Cuba).
But, even with all the advances in racial integration in the 1970s, there were still racists who thot segregation in housing was more profitable for “white neighborhoods,” like Fred & Donald Trump in New York, being sued in 1973 for systematic discrimination against black ppl.
Working in Washington in 2005-6 i found the situation much improved and distinctly less tense. BUT one must also remember, having worked in many parts of the world, that racism is far from being just a "white" phenomena!
But last night Trump went after it altogether in a clear appeal to the white suburban voters he has been losing, and whose support he so badly needs in 2020...
Lets not pretend that he is using a dog whistle any more. Lets grow some cotton
It occurs to me that if Trump were handling the Coronavirus pandemic even halfway competently, and bringing down the infection rates like other countries seem to be figuring out, he would greatly improve his chances at re-election. Which raises an uncomfortable question. Is it worth the suffering and death if it rids our country of the curse of this president? Could the Coronavirus be a type of national chemotherapy?
One of the saddest things to me about all of this is that icons like the New York Times have been "discredited" through propaganda, probably to the point of no return. Even if things go as well as possible in November, it's going to take decades to attempt to right that ship, if it's possible at all.
Herman Cain is now being treated for Covid-19 after attending Comrade 45's Tulsa rally without a mask and visiting Arizona afterward, also presumably without a mask.
Trump and his supporters now say he didn't know about the Russia bounty intelligence because the CIA briefer, Beth Sanner, didn't tell him. Trump also says it's a hoax, which would imply that either Beth was at fault for not telling him, or would be guilty of giving him hoax information, so -- Catch-22. "Bad Beth! You didn't tell the President. Bad Beth! You did!"
I have a solution to the briefing problem. Just have Beth and Trump exchange places. That would ensure that the new President would always be well informed. Meanwhile, Trump could go back to the CIA and spend the rest of his life reading in.

Please let this nightmare end soon.
28 weeks, 5 days and change to inauguration 2021.

Like you, I am hoping that she, a clinical psychologist yet, explains this damaged, hate-filled man.

I don't think he is as stupid as we think. Con men are master manipulators.
There are many different forms of intelligence and non are precluded by most psychotic states. The "state" of each "sufferer" certainly orientates their usage of their grey cells for good or for bad.
Psychosis aside, do not underestimate the intelligence of a con man. His cons got him to to the top. It takes a smart man to achieve that.

Brad said THAT? Has he been fired?
No, Brad didn't say that, someone commenting on Brads letter did.

Things are definitely happening. This is some interesting reporting in Vanity Fair. I hope it's accurate. :) https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/07/trump-despondent-as-numbers-crater-loser-label-looms
Thanks for flagging that piece. Trump is the "woe is me" president. What a pitiful sight: Trump begging Tucker Carlson, "What do I do? What do I do?"
Check your Facebook feed if you have one. Unfortunately there are still many, many ardent supporters out there!!!

Personally, I follow Unicorn Riot
Thank you, was not familiar with that site. Bookmarked.

I've generally observed during my travels, that Latino's have little tolerance for the black man.
Great episode of the election whisper! Gives me hope! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-FR_7ivu_k
