It didn't matter too much to the Tories when they chose him, though. When he has been fired in his career in politics and journalism...and that is often... it has always been for lying. Johnson is "predictably inconstant, incorrigibly optimistic and reliably egotistical" and everyone in Whitehall and half of London knew it well........but NYC also knew Trump! Johnson has been getting away with it on the wings of a "classic quote" all his life.

The Conservatives just wanted power and they knew Johnson could keep it for them in the chaos generated by May and surrounding Brexit negotiations. Their party is ostensibly the most successful and assuredly the oldest in the western world. They are very succesful in attaining power and keeping it by adapting themselves to the current needs and demands of the electorate.....however that was defined....for the past several centuries.

Did you see Theresa stand up and scold him during Questions and Answers?

I didn't see it but heard of it. My thought is firstly her best intentions were as bad as his worst instincts when it comes to leading the country. My second is that both live in a mental fog and don't see the world as it really is. So effectively "the pot calling the kettle black" !

Johnson's ice will likely disappear in the spring thaw. The Tories are ruthless.
