I LOVE your work and listen every day !!! Interesting times indeed - up is down. FYI Heather you may well be interested in the group of Petitioners going for their Day 3 tomorrow Jan 5th, to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington ....demanding that their elected Congress uphold the Constitution, Article 14 and Amendment 3 which CLEARLY states that an adjudicated insurrectionist (3 times! ) cannot hold ANY Government office.. it is written. They are motivated, Peaceful, articulate, educated and not backing down .... standing (in the BITTER cold ) to fight for their Country and Liberty.... NOW ....I thought their efforts, valour and Patriotism might peak your curiosity .... and maybe ?? ??? All is only lost when you stop fighting or speaking the truth.

Pity that it's a pointless protest.

Not pointless... it's absolutely necessary and admirable. I am thankful that some of us are protesting that the Trump engineered partisan majority SCOTUS completely wiped out this part of the Constitution.. section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This is outrageous. Complacency is the next step in the devolution. And here we go inaugurating an oath breaking insurrectionist taking the oath again. Pointless???

It's not accomplishing anything. Women didn't get the vote through peaceful protest.

The French government knows it damn well needs to be afraid of its citizens.

We need to be more like the French.

Public participation and awareness is vital.

More like the French? Do you know French history?

Do you know American history vis a vis women?

Freedom is no longer FREE… It IS time to fight back for our Liberty and rights and Constitution …they fight continually … unfortunately we MUST now too…to be mobilized and move and speak truth and never ever quit. We didn’t start the WAR but regardless…. it IS UP TO US to end it sooner..or much later

As phrased in this letter "speaking truth to power" & acting in valor is never pointless. What is required to defeat corruption is more people choosing to do the right things than people choosing to cheat or give up. Much is pointless, for sure, but honest effort & action with integrity never is. Protests might not affect SCOTUS decisions but we have to find ways to effectively exercise the will of the people united in principles of democracy & fairness. We need great creativity & strength. We can't accept defeat. Our lives aren't pointless, the sociopaths seizing power want nothing more than to convince us that they are, that our purpose is to serve them. Whatever it takes, that can not be allowed.

Very recently I became a paying subscriber to Letters from an American but to my disappointment it appears, what this means is that I don't receive your printed letters as emails anymore but rather recordings. I don't want this. How to go back to receiving written letters from an American, which by the way I very much appreciate. Kay Mathew kay.mathew1@gmail.com

Expand full comment

I'm a paying subscriber and I get both by email. But not at the same time.

Expand full comment

I get both now, as well. I much prefer the print version.

Not because I dislike the sound of Ms. Richardson's voice, but because it's easier for me to retain information that I read, rather than hear.

Not to mention that it's a lot easier to quote from text than an audio recording.

Should be do-able, because I still get the letter. Also, you can read it on her Facebook page.

*Is* do-able: Go to "manage subscription" when you click on the blue dot upper right corner here. Choose what you want.

thanks! I'll try. :)

You can read it during the podcast by hitting the "Transcript" button directly below the podcast. You can do this on a computer not just a smart phone.

thanks - I'll try that.

Me, too. I have a paid sub, but now receive only voice recording. Complicated by the fact that I (deliberately) do not have a smart phone, so no app-possibility. Cannot follow substack’s instructions.

try the suggestions above - I haven't yet but I'm thinking it'll work.

That’s odd. There is the facebook post too which is a good backup, but the email is what I rely on too.

me too. I'm gonna try the suggestions above.

Liz Cheney to Trump at the end of this.... WOW!

Her comment should be reposted in all media forms. WONDERFUL

I love these recaps and way to go Liz Cheney! We need more leaders to stand up for the American people.

Thanks Heather. I enjoy both the written and audio. I read and the later in the day I listen. Really helps me to digest so much more of your valuable content. Yours is the only place I heard anything about Liz Cheney’s response to Trump which I am sure caused his orange hair to inflame. So nice to see someone stand up strong to him and tell it like it is. And even better, coming from a woman. Bet that really eats away at that narcissistic misogynist lying, cheating imbecile. Stay strong all and fight at every opportunity you can against this attempt to destroy the world.

Good evening Heather. That was some display by the president-elect. But I loved Liz Chaney’s response. Hot and heavy.

I also am a paid subscriber and have been recently experiencing problems with the audio broadcasts. They play about half way thru and then jump to the end. I really prefer listening to the letters, and hope there's a fix for that. Thanks

I have no problem.

I'm not versed in tech troubleshooting, but it's often a rather tedious process of elimination. If it isn't something a lot of people are experiencing, it might be something on your end. You can try maybe trying to access the audio version on the Substack web page vs. through the app, I had to do this to manage a subscription. Uninstalling & reinstalling the app might be a fix. If you have more than one device, you can try that, too. That prompted me to realize I had a connection problem recently. Is this the only audio posts you are experiencing this with? It might be a Substack tech thing. There might be help in the support section of your account. So frustrating! Good luck.

Thank you so much. Today's podcast amplified Biden's awards I didn't see on other media. A further example of a Democrat rewarding people for great work for the truth, for people, and for the planet.

You have become my daily ritual. I sincerely appreciate your work and your brilliance. I so appreciate your knowledge of history and your unflinching work to give us accurate information. I tell everyone I know to subscribe. Thank you!

Liz Cheney's words to Donald Trump are priceless. I like them so much, I may memorize them!

For a month now I have been receiving notices that I am a subscriber but no version at all. On my cell phone where I am not a subscriber -- different email address -- I can read the daily version. Any way to fix this?

Why are there so many befuddled people on this substack?? Go to your account and find "manage subscription" in the drop down menu...upper right hand blue dot. Choose what you want.

Expand full comment

I was recently befuddled in something (different) myself. In another subscription I saw it spelled out how to manage a subscription, but it was only as it was becoming a common problem I guess. I don't recall if there were clear instructions when I first joined Substack, but I wouldn't have probably realized it was relevant & remembered. I'm glad you are able to point us in the right direction so the professor can concentrate on the letters!

This is a new thing for many including those who publish on it. It seems like there is nobody at the wheel. There are few substacks that have both a written and an audio separated like this I think. It is confusing.

Good morning!🌞

Am confused. Love this newsletter & am paid subscriber. But! And! No actually but…

one day I get an audio, the next it’s in print, the next it’s audio. Do I have a choice and am I missing something? Thanks lots for all you do!

Warmly,

Mary Schneider

Yes, but is Liz supporting social services? If trump had played his cards right he would have made her the head of DOD. Wonder if she'd have taken it?
