This is all just so ... I'm losing my mind.

Thank you for continuing to do what you do.

Thank you for bringing up the subject of independent media, I’ve always believed in the idea of a silver lining. The distribution of lies and an alternative reality which resulted in this “election” can encourage media outlets to provide us with factual, and constructive information. An independent goal …

What's needed is the return of the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine' which was abandoned in 1987. It was abandoned because then then FCC members felt it restricted journalistic freedom to report on issues of concern. You're far too preoccupied in America with free speech and First Amendment rights and now you have the opposite of 'fairness' in your media. Of course, those four FFC members couldn't possible have anticipated the current state of affairs, but what's happened since then has been a disaster for your country.

They knew exactly what would happen, and had prepared for years to move quickly once it did.

Yes, that's why both Reagan and George W Bush vetoed legislation to overturn that fateful decision as its consequences began to become clear.

That's what I'm doing. Listening to Heather is well worth the subscription! I love listening to her "stuff." That meaning what she has to say has so much relevance right now and for the next four years. I want my democracy back!

Please help me figure out how to simply go to your written commentary and READ it. Ever since I became a paid subscriber I'm been struggling to read your articles which are so important. Tonight I was told to download the substack app which I don't want to do. Most of the time I'm faced with only audio by email and not your written essays. Please help me get back to the way it was, simple and no distractions like having to "comment" in order to find my way to your articles.

Transforming the NSC into the Gestapo...

The scenario the MAGA forces are setting up with California have an eerie life-imitates-art-ring: it was the Western Forces who rose against Washington in "Civil War (2024)", I suppose going quickly from tax strike to mobilization when they realize the Loyalists want to take their power as well as their money. Good news with "The Contrarian" but it's too high-school-Tom-Paine-patriot-ish, namby-pamby. The connotation of "The Contrarian" validates the idea that MAGA, first, has a point of view that it is willing to argue and, second, that it wants to or is playing a constitutional game of actable disagreement among equals. MAGA clearly don't believe in majority rule and, from their (national and Christian) theoretical side, they believe in a Higher Power, a god or a race or a social destiny that imposes a "natural order" on any mere political constitution. They think only people who believe as they believe deserve to be in on the great "disagreement among equals" that the Constitution assumes. In view of this, a more appropriate name for a news service in opposition might be "Democratic Future" or "Real Broadcasting". That'd be taking a leaf from MAGA who name all their doings, media and otherwise, along the lines of "Truth" and "Freedom" and Revelation and so forth. But that doesn't mean that doing something similar ourselves is dumb or immoral. It just means MAGA knows better what they stand for. The founders of the new news service would be advised to ask more advice about the choice of names as well as, if you ask me, have their passports and some open tickets handy. MAGA isn't playing ball.

Thank you for bringing The Contrarian to attention.

Earlier I was on Facebook, and though I do need to see some of the posts that poke a bit of fun at the current situation, I feel like my time using social media would be better spent if I knew how to focus my objections to current efforts of Republicans to dismantle democracy more directly to both Democrats and Republicans. What is the best way to access the necessary information about bills and practices? Will The Contrarian offer some insight on what bills are coming up that we need to be aware of?
