The issue, really, is that "no one" is listening and "no one" wants to analyze real from fake. Pumpkinhead and his minions are irrational and want to "do what they want to do." Why on earth would America want to ruin 100+ year relations with our various allies? Makes no sense. I am terrified about what is going to happen 20 January. It will be like these LA fires on a political stage...Armageddon. With the SCOTUS decisions and its willingness to let Pumpkinhead loose, no matter what he does this term will never be prosecuted. ...and these sycophants profit.
I agree that it feels as though no one listening, and especially that no one wants to spend the energy, time, and commitment to distinguishing what is known and what is made up, between fiction and nonfiction. Just as the memoir genre got twisted into romance fiction despite the tradition of confessional autobiography to tell some truths, so too political rhetoric no longer values truth or truth-seeking but instead manipulated outcomes. Claiming one might break alliances is often a rhetorical way of mending or strengthening an alliance if not in word but in provoked actions. Blaming the people trying to fix a problem of being the problem is so often a tool of those who don't have a solution but tacitly acknowledge one must be found. Diverting attention, displacing the blame from the source of the problem to the symptoms is way to avoid finding substantive solutions and instead invoke populus anger and crowd sourced approval. The bottom line is that often nothing happens at the federal level because of faux or spectacle politics; thus, local government, local communities must work out the issues of climate change, development control, and community survival.
Do not lose sight. Of this deflection with these insane comments on land grabbing and irritating our allies. We need to focus on the immediate issue at hand, the stopping his totally unqualified cabinet picks. They must be denied these positions. They are not qualified and a threat to our democracy. Be sure toe to continue to contact your representatives and senators to stop these appointments.
While I admire the intellect and dedication of this gracious host, I was saddened by her flinging feces at JFK, Jr. The thousands of doctors she quoted who signed concerns about Kennedy were most likely the lemmings under the iron rule of the pharmaceuticals, who are the most authoritarian of American Corporations. They are the largest and most wealthy of corporations in America, and are equally the most corrupt. I suggest she dig into real, extended research, noting the fhousands of doctors who are quiting their allegiance to standard medicine and joining a growing community of Americans who are exhausted by pharms and their reduction of all treatments to pills, which are designed to be temporary and ensure a gold mine of high profits. Their greed greatly exceeds their concerns for real health. Alternative medicine builds health. I repeat BUILDS health, while standard medicine only is concerned with addressing disease. The evidence about the value of alternative health is out there. And it is growing, which threatens the immense profitering of the pharms. Money, money, money.
I admitted my mistake to her correction, yes. BTW, who is "we"? Were you elected to speak for more than yourself? Do you have any response to my post, you know, the content? Or do you consider a
You make good points regarding the influence of BigPharma. I believe what is troubling is that RFK Jr. is a poor choice. I would offer that your analysis of the power of BigPharma is accepted by most on the left and in the middle. Trump's choice of RFK Jr has less to do with addressing issues facing the HHS but simply appointing a sycophant to do his bidding. Even if we believe that RFK Jr could curb BigPharma, the other damage he could do is not worth the price. There are people who could challenge BP and promote good science. Furthermore, the idea that Trump would allow anyone to curb profits for BP is unlikely if not fantasy.
I don't dispute most of your claims about the decline in USA healthcare and complicity of some doctors, profit-focused corporations, and complacent government regulation, but I'm not sure about the idea that Heather Cox Richardson was disparaging Robert Kennedy Jr. but instead, was reporting on a letter signed by a significant number of doctors. The description of Kennedy that concludes the paragraph is contained in quotes and may be quoted from the letter, though that isn't specified. It's more like HCR is updating us about the status of RFK Jr.'s nomination in the press. It's worrisome that so many doctors felt compelled to make a public statement but there are many other doctors, as you point out, that feel differently. I hope the Senate gives the nomination a very thorough hearing.
Uh no, if functional medicine were the point a real MD like Dr. Mark Hyman could have been appointed vs. a man with nothing more than loyalty to an authoritarian. The point is to demolish democracy here not support health.
This actually sounds like a challenge: "How uninformed can the average American be?" The narrative pushed by the "whiny baby team" has been swallowed and gulped down. This is actually a question about whether we will return to the dark ages or whether we will become more enlightened. The scariest thing for me to witness is the willingness of all too many Americans to imbibe anti-factual information. Of the many factors contributing to this is the clear anti-educational stance of many MAGA and red state legislatures. I don't even think Trump has the intellectual capacity to understand this, but he has certainly changed over the years to now harbor the worst despicable group of power mongorors imaginable.
Dr. Oppenheim makes a good point - this should be front page news instead of the daily chaos that may/may not be true and simply serves to keep Chicken Little thinking that the sky is falling!!
Kurt Andersen's Fantasyland book helped me understand what to expect in the first Trump administration and how mass media and public opinion would respond. It's difficult to accept that the USA has high rates of illiteracy across the country, low education outcomes, and few standards for effective learning, critical thinking, and meretricious outcomes.

All true, and now I read where 45 is going to give up his day job (other business?) so he can devote himself to being President.

JFK,Jr. died in a plane crash years ago.
Yes, true.
Honest mistake. Did you think it was dispositive of the whole post? Any comment in response to the post?
Did you correct your mistake or are we supposed to overlook it because you put the important part in for context?
I admitted my mistake to her correction, yes. BTW, who is "we"? Were you elected to speak for more than yourself? Do you have any response to my post, you know, the content? Or do you consider a

Gerald Lewis, you need to rethink and rewrite your commentary, Gerald what you have written only makes sense to you.

How did we get here ? Too many MAGots and other Americans didn't know when to throw out the garbage !
Journalist/author Kurt Andersen might, in some of his books, have some insight. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35171984-fantasyland and https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53562067-evil-geniuses for example.

Too long a story. The root of it is we are all just people.🙏
