May I suggest that it is not about you? It is about putting our personal lived experiences to work for our shared goals?
It is not about seeing someone just like you in office, unless you run for office. It is about working and playing well together. For something more important than our individual selves.

The Founders were against factions in general. But as Ben Franklin said, 'when animosities arise, stand with the party which unfurls the flag of the general welfare.' Loosely paraphrased.
My point is, I am not interested in who you are. Except as an example of those for whom politics is primarily an expression of their own feelings and enthusiasms. And my assumption that you may personify that category is based on my reading what you have written.
Well put, lin. I do think the time will come when the "United States" will either redefine and rename itself, or it will regionalize into an assembly of nations rather than semi-independent states (which is where our name originally arose). Most of us have a sense of regional identity, and there are many formal, legal regional collaborations already in place. We can't predict where the future will take us (as the recent past has all too well reminded us). But we do seem to be on the cusp of some kind of significant change. The values we choose to operate under will play a large role in how that plays out. The trope that nations and empires necessarily descend into violence is not true. Mostly they just kind of wind down.
"We can't predict where the future will take us ..."
But we can get a pretty good fix on the future we are making.
I have deep distrust of regionalism or other ideas for dissolving the Union. Every Republican dominated state has large numbers of Democrats. Every Democratic dominated state has large numbers of Republicans. Not to mention the disenfranchised and disengaged.
All with regional feelings, or not.
The challenges of repairing and renewing the Union are nothing to what it would take to redefine the nation into regional alliances. For instance - foreign policy.
I guess I wasn't clear enough about what I was getting at- which are the values that we have right now shaping the future. All nations and cultures, do undergo change. As I tried to get at (not very well, I guess) when I talked about empires simply winding down. I have no proposal for dissolving anything. Unfortunately you read more into what I said than was there. Your words "...we can get a pretty good fix on the future we are making" are a pretty good summary of what I was trying to get at. Personally, as I keep hammering at, I urge people to work for repair and renewal. That's why I am here.

Sorry lin. You are making so many assumptions about who I am and you have no clue. Enjoy this sunny day!

I'd suggest a cold shower instead.
