When they try to privatize ANYTHING, i.e. give away our national treasure that WE paid for to billionaires for FREE to make profit, we MUST say NO and use Every means to block it. Every Senator must place a hold on anything like this.

The way I see it, the R's are taking over the Govt to use in their best interest and its rich supporters. If they can claim to cut enough out of the Govt and Save Billions they can justify cutting taxes. They will do the accounting.

Trump's job in all of this, which he has little understanding of, is to continue to make outrageous statements, Greenland, Panama, Gaza etc. that get all the headlines instead of headlines about the dismantling. The media predictably emphasises the outrageous because it sells ads and makes them money.

Musk has a free hand to do as he wishes. The R's majority in Congress is silent so they can't be blamed for anything he does. Whatever goes wrong they will have kept their distance and would be able to deny all accountability to their constituents. Well planned you have to say.

I did hear that a bill has been introduced into the house to put a leash on Musk, but the Speaker will probably never let it get to the floor.

We are experiencing a modern day coup, the results of which no one, even the R's, has a clue.

Love the daily podcast. Thanks, peter

Well said! R's obstructionism and "our way or the highway" position has been going on for 40 years or so. When McConnell and almost all the other R's (only a few outliers stood by their oath of office.) walked back their indignation with gutless lies and a sudden change of what they experienced and their call for Trump to be held accountable for the Jan. 6 riot to over turn the election, now all the R's have drunk the arrogant, megalomaniac, fascist potion--"The end justifies the means." I don't even type that sentence lightly. It is the most dangerous of all belief systems. Sadly, this is the case for many factions, including those who think becoming a Christian nation (and a Christian world) is the highest objective of all, no matter how we get there. This is worse than Orwell's 1984 in some ways. We've not yet become the weary, beaten-down hollow humans that existed in that state, but they are working on it. Overwhelm them with chaos. Make them feel powerless, meek and weak. Bully, blackmail and brutalize. Just the formula for small men, who I'll never recognize as leaders.

I have been a pilot for over thirty years. I am a flight instructor, an advanced ground instructor and have piloted commercially. The Trump yarn that his pilots do not use the FAA Air Traffic Control system is flat out false. No one, not even Trump One lands in NYC without using the FAA Air Traffic Control System. Pure nonsense.

"We Don't Believe You" is an excellent slogan for protestors, merch, and messaging to proliferate through the internet directed to ALL Republicans (which does pressure them uniquely) and, of course, DJT and Musk. It's not 'dei,' it's not bogged in the fine print of defending truth, it goes around the lack of cool the party currently has, and it's one of the cleanest shutdowns. We need to get to it first bc after every time they use it; they're inscribing and reinscribing the new Democratic Party that needs to emerge.

All I know is I am very upset that all the Dem senators are not holding the line in confirmation by voting no and making the MAGA party do it by themselves. This is one area because of the environment that we are in that there is no room for trying to work together. Let history show, the Dem party saw through the lies under oath and the recognition of the unqualified appointees. And I phoned in my thoughts to their Washington office several times. I will remain hopeful the lawsuits filed will at least delay if not overturn some of these other ghastly EO’s

I love your letters and podcasts. The way I see it is that all these things (actions) are shiny objects to deter us from really seeing what is really happening: a coup. I remember when he was running he said "if you vote for me, you'll never have to vote again." He meant it. He is Orbán in disguise.

Marie Yovanovich wrote about Zelinsky's efforts to get corruption out of Ukraine There, iof you bribed enough officials, you got action. Now, with Bondi removing those controls on American access to power, it seems we are becoming the old Ukraine system of governance before true "Servants of the People" try to rein it in and make qualifications and need matter. How Zelenski was doing it is a Netflix documentary started in maybe 2014 for 3 seasons. And it is an easy watch, funny and frustrating.

The court system is the actual conservative element present. To conserve the federal state and its Constitution, the American court system needs to assert the strength of conservatism, that is, exercise the force of law and the power of their rulings.

The John Roberts Supreme (extreme!?) Court opened the door to unlimited corporate corruption of the McCain-Feingold election reform by yielding to Citizen's United and then corrupting the idea of no one being above the law with the inexplicable presidential immunity act, er, decision in Trump v. USA.

Will the Supreme Court finally hold the line on the corruption going on right now?
