Yes President Macron definitely stepped up to the task, meanwhile the flacid orange traitor sinks lower into the morass of his own making. What a thoroughly disgusting creature Mr trump has devolved into … although it seems that he has always had this obnoxious, spiteful personality, which has distilled into a distinctly orange hued puff-ball of repugnance.
Republican operatives in judges robes declared that a US president in above the law, and Trump has certainly taken the cue. It Trump succeeds, existing rules-based law with the consent of the governed will be irrelevant, including $COTUS. Who, if they think about it for even a minute, wants this besides "robber barons" and Putin?
Today, I am a European. I am no longer American in my mind. I was originally in favor of giving in to Putin’s no NATO demands but now, this war must be won. The Europeans must send military assistance and men to fight in Ukraine. Russia is at its weakest. And Putin will not use the nuclear option. He doesn’t want St Petersburg to turn into melted glass.
This war now needs to be won. The US is now the outlier in the world of politics. But that’s nothing new to me. I once fled the US in the late 1970s to live in Florence, Italy. It was a breath of fresh air. When the Euros open a donation post, I’ll donate.
I am with you, Bill. I am so ashamed of my country's representation on the world stage and its treatment of Ukraine and Europe. Giving Trump so much power by SCOTUS was not only blatantly unconstitutional, but an enormous misstep. They had to know they were creating a monster, and look at the mess that has ensued.
K Doyle, I fear SCOTUS made its biggest, most damaging decision with Citizens United declaring money was the equivalent of free speech, THAT opened the door WIDE to corporations, big business of all kinds and especially the likes of tRump. SCOTUS was directly and entirely responsible for all that came after. That said, those behind the elevation of the Opus Dei “justices” appear to have been following a LONG term plan stretching back at least to the moneyed interests Ronald Reagan. America has a LONG history of the pendulum swinging back and forth between government of, by and for the people and business (read big money) interests.
Yes John, I agree. McCain/Fingold had fixed it but the reactionary conservative court, which has little to do with traditional conservatism, did us in.
I have believed that ever since the Citizens United decree. One of many reasons that I've also believed that what we're really up against is the dollar power of corporations behind all the curtains.
I recall the saying "marry in haste, repent at leisure." The voters who elected the Republican regime are starting to regret it. Alas, the ideological seeds sown for decades are now rooted throughout what's left of the American government. Like Candide, we must tend to our garden.
Right. Don’t be ashamed. Be proud that our past reputation of bravery will inspire us to continue the fight to quickly eliminate this God-forsaken scum and restore the true American that the world respected.
Amen sister! I know what freedom is, history can show all of us what the US has been through, no kings can rule here, did we forget why America came to be a country of freedom, peace and the election of our leaders, not kings!
Right there with you Barbara!! My wife and I plan to visit Normandy, France, for the D Day ceremonies again this year. After Tr**p threw Ukraine and Europe under the bus, our original reaction was to cancel because of our embarrassment, but after some clear thinking we became angry and now want the present ourselves as proud Americans who stood with our European Allies against Fascism!! 80 percent of Americans are against Tr**ps stand!!!
We "know" JDinTx better than her frustration venting Barb. *We have to be patient as we can and watch for righteous outrage to build. I'd add that it's likely not a good idea to be resentful and righteous when the deluded come around. No one likes to hear "I told you so." We need their numbers.
My husband and I struggle everyday regarding leaving the US. But we are in our 70's, yet healthy and athletic, so are conflicted about moving at this time. Our plan is to travel often, stay in airbnb's abroad and find as much distraction in our photography and other activities.
NOOO Stephanie, now is the time to stand up and be heard, stand up and be counted as against the moral and fiscal depradations of the tRump muskrats! Let your Congress critters know every day and in every way the importance of reclaiming our country’s political system!
And get “shot in the legs” while protesting? T’s moves with the military have chilled me to the bone. My father immigrated to get away from that type of sh!t.
(I’m not in a position to leave the country, but the pull is strong.)
Your desire to be "distracted" in the face of the rest of us looking for solutions large and small is not the petty comment I would have expected on this commentary after Heather's words about Macron and the need for support of for Ukraine.
Don't stay in Air BnBs--the CEO and company are MAGA. Use other booking venues, like Vrbo or local/regional booking companies. I like, in the UK, Syke's Cottages, which books very nice places all over the UK and Ireland and I think also has outlets on the Continent.
Disclaimer: (Forgive me. This is merely cheap opinion based on the emotions of the moment.) - DO IT! Enjoy your freedom. It seems like a no brainer from my vantage point. (Granted I lack any sense of the meaningful ties that this move might stand to break) Love and enjoy your health while you have it, your creativity and your art! Free yourself from the burden of this stark dangerous looking cloud inexplicably hovering over the US. Few of us here recognize or can summon any logical reason as to why this strange tide has overtaken this country. BUT IT HAS TAKEN OVER THE COUNTRY. For some odd reason, i listened to Mark Halperin’s talk on substack(?) last night and with the trappings of conservative critique and it was stomach churning due to the number of times one guest brought up the idea that strong donnie was leading the US in the right direction with all his “waste fraud and abuse” victories so far and the host gave it credence over the odd Russian romance going on with our “leader.” We here in the US now live in a constant grip of “doom anticipation” and starkly ineffectual responses. Reminds me of hiding under our desks in grade school as part of our (Russian) nuclear bomb drills. No point, empty exercises, but it made people FEEL as if we were doing something. But you have a choice. Do something real if you have the freedom to choose! Or…,stay and use your last decade(s) fighting the invisible zombies gripping our family, friends and neighbors.
Waste, fraud and abuse is the talking point that resonates with the Right. Once they've latched onto a reason (but her e-mails! Bengazi! Hunter Biden's laptop!) they won't let it go. We should be responding with our own message: any waste fraud or abuse that is uncovered will be dwarfed by the tax cut for billionaires that will add $3.4 TRILLION to our debt.
One third of our countrymen voted for this regime and another third didn't care enough to vote. Until these people feel the pain they have inflicted and join the resistance the shit show will continue. Donate to a legal fund then spend your money in sane countries with a clear conscience.
Stephanie, you and your husband are fortunate to have this option. I hope you will not forget your fellow citizens who cannot or choose not to leave. Take care of yourself and each other but please use your voices whether here or abroad to support our country. Thanks.
"They" count on you to stay out of their way. I'm somewhat surprised at discovering I have/had friends who think that way. I am 83 and absolutely depend on Social Security, and Medicare. "They" think I need less to live on. I am gay. "They" think I don't deserve equal rights. Do not expect me to praise you for "distraction".
. Don’t abandon. The ship hasn’t sunk yet. Be proud that our past reputation of bravery will inspire us to continue the fight to quickly eliminate this God-forsaken scum and restore the true American that the world respected.
I too am conflicted about leaving the mess. Back to writing postcards to voters as there are many state elections where Democrats can win and make a difference. Watch US congress too!
Russia's losses, military and economic, have been so humiliating it'd be hard to see how anything could salvaged from this deal that would allow Putin to save face. Still, I suppose if there is a way to achieve this Trump and his cronies will be sure to find it.
Russell, i agree up to a point. However, as Heather points out, death star is turning everything set up after WWII on its head. He has treated our allies and friends like enemies and already there are economic consequences re US produced goods. And we voted in the UN with every reprobate country in the world. The Europeans are wisely finding a way to survive without us while death star and his minions turn us into a third rate country ruled by oligarchs. Putin will not save face, but he and every other dictator in the world are cheering death star on. Notice during the Macron answering period, Macron was animated and death star sat there like the puppet he has become.
His attitude was 'la, la, la... not listening' like a sullen teenager's response to criticism from his parents. Even Republicans are angry about the UN 'screw-up' which left the US in some pretty disagreeable company, as you point out. Ukraine at least has a reasonable prospect of continued aid from other western nations to rebuild what remains of their country. Russia can expect no such favours either from Trump or Xi Jinping.
I agree with you, in general. But I don’t share your confidence about Putin holding back on nuclear weapons. He has tactical nukes. These weapons are terrifying, but LESS immediately destructive than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. If the war drags on, or if Europe rallies behind Ukraine to fill the shameful void left by Useful Idiot Trump’s capitulation to his pal, Putin may have no “choice” but to launch a nuke on Kiev. Trump would then blame Ukraine for not agreeing to HIS (actually, Putin’s) “peace” plan.
I agree with you Dave however, a nuke is a nuke. My Green Beret friend, informed me of the devastation of using a tactical nuke, as that was his speciality. I suggested we should use them in Iraq, in specific locations. According to him, visually the world would not know the difference between the two in pictures. With a radiation dosimeter or badge , can you determine the reduced fallout.
This is just an FYI. You sound very educated in tactical responses.
I wish us all the best.
If we must fight, I pray it stays conventional.
I never will trust Putin, he will use all he has at his disposal.
I cannot believe that some large data centers want to be built underground in the US Southwest desert and use underground nuclear power for their energy. What could go wrong?
Europe has not been immune to similar figureheads - worse actually - and not that long ago. Hmm. Maybe it's something all civilizations go through. The question is whether or not we will survive it and come out all right on the other side. The Democrats better get their act together fast and stop worrying about the far left woke insanity that got us here. And it would be nice if Republicans would grow a spine.
If by “woke” you mean “diversity and inclusion” I hope you will rethink your position. The racism shared by Trump, Musk, Thiel, etc., is part of what is killing US. The sacking of the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is proof of that.
I had wished the people would find a way to get rid of Trump (and the next two in line) as quickly as Liz Truss (50 days including a 10 day suspension of government business in mourning for Queen Elizabeth’s passing).
Her large-scale tax cuts and increased borrowing (same very tired nonsense as Republicans have pushed since Reagan, but more extreme) seem to have been a lesson our current administration should have learned, instead of just going more extreme every time since Reagan.
I will not go that far, you need to stay as an American and fight against this regime. During WWII, in occupied France French citizens remained as citizens and went underground to fight against Nazis. Trump represents only a minority of Americans.
Yes, Hiro. At 90 with an invitation to France and the possibility of losing medical care and Social Security I may be forced to leave for the best health care and good food, however. Republicans want the old to die off quickly which makes the atmosphere chilling and difficult to sustain optimism some days.
You don't have to be physically inside the US to communicate with Congress. Email and some phone carriers make messages easy. Even while residing abroad you are still a US citizen and can vote.
Send $$$ to Ukraine! A story on CNN featured Americans in Nome Alaska who are making and shipping equipment to Ukraine. Ambulances. Body armor kits. Jammers to stop radio-directed drones. Look for it. Maybe we can help fund that.
I share your disgust for Trump and what he's doing to the USA and the "free" world. He is utterly contemptible! His personal bromance with Putin MUST be stopped! But the MAGA GOP shares in his unconscionable guilt. This is not conservatism but irresponsibility and abdication.
Those six SC judges who went along to give Trump unbridled immunity all behave like "robber barons" and Putin. So, yes, that is what they want. It certainly appears that way. I am looking forward to the day, if ever, that four of these six judges will come to their senses and negate, by way of a further complaint before the Court, what they've given Trump. I don't hold *any* hope for Thomas and Alito. I understand that the reality of such may well not happen anytime soon; however, at some point, the evidence now forming before us in this nation may well be the turning point for some of these SC justices.
Well said sir! To quote Forest Gump, Stupid is as Stupid does. I wonder how soon the Project 2025 crew will simply warehouse DonOld and keep him out of the public eye. It will not be easy because demented as our Cheeto Benito is, he loves being on TV! Combine Stupid with absolute arrogance of his own genius, and here we are.
William, my thoughts exactly. I wonder if he croaks, that they will keep that a secret for as long as they can. Vance is awful, but for some reason he does not have the pull on the cult that death star does.
He has a lot more power than he has sense, even for a dictator. I worry how much damage he and his corrupted party will do in the mean time? That must be publicly pinned on them. Good for Macron for saying "No" to thugs.
Russell, it is clear that his worsening dementia is a problem. He has become a lump in public situations with both Macron and muskrat. Already the puppeteers are using this and pulling the strings big time. They just want him and his sharpie to continue to govern by executive order while muskrat runs wild.
I think we are more at risk from what Trump chooses not to think (or at least say) and what he does not seem to feel (compassion or conscience) than actual senility.
Riad, I do not hold any hope for Uncle Tom and Sammy either. They are both disgusting and arrogant to boot. I do hope the others come to their senses, but....
RTN, and none of those you named: Putin and the robber barrens is worth their weight in trash. It proves big money makes a person nothing but rich, worthy to be ignored, yet we keep setting them up almost as demigods! That is nuts!
Reagan's beloved "Supply Side". How much is "Supply" and how much control? While acknowledging a role for capital, Lincoln said “Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed.". True enough? Feudal landed gentry literally thought of themselves as a superior breed to slaving peasants, with "same old serpent" hubris. That they themselves were essential to society, while others were not. That's the heart of demagoguery.
Not every dollar is obtained the same way, and not everything can be ethically bought and sold; election and policy results among them. We have normalized corruption in our society, and now it's turning septic. Careless or deliberate injustice to ANY pollutes and corrupts liberty and justice for all.
To me, capital is just one of the "Fruits of Labor," very much is what useful products and service so many can produce if the Velocity of Money goes through so many more people.
Democrats can and should shut everything down until the Mango Mussolini agrees to accept the powers that the Constitution gives to Congress, and stops stabbing Ukraine in the back and favoring Russia. Shut it all down!
I heard a podcast yesterday in which it was hypothesized that there is an element in the human psyche that likes authoritarianism. I would suggest that the percentage of relief obtained at not having to analyze or decide varies from person to person. But we do see it: with dogmatic religions, cults of various kinds, and this latest American attempt at fascism. Well, that's who wants this besides robber barons and Putin. Oh, and part of the fun is seeing the other side squirm. Some people will literally cause harm to themselves and families for that pleasure.
There is a mode of thinking that seems to have developed before our accumulated knowledge revealed better alternatives, to make an authoritarian father the ultimate authority, and I think that still resonates for a great many people. Perhaps there was a time when something like a king was socially useful, despite the many drawbacks. "The American Experiment" pulled together more sophisticated thinking from the Renaissance and Enlightenment a proposed a better way to manage a society; but it's a lot more complicated than just bowing to the will of an Exulted Poobah, requiring emotional as well as physical work. Some feel the urge to retreat into false simplicity of one size fits none rather than struggle for resilience, and those who would be king are pleased to encourage them to do so.
Thomas Jefferson knew that the voters needed to be educated in order to prevent a takeover by a tyrant. I remember when schools taught civics and encouraged reading which gave citizens the tools to make wiser choices. Sadly there is a war on knowledge and critical thinking these days.
Phone calls and emails to my Washington contingent—I live in Idaho so I don’t delude myself it will yield much in the way of tangible results. I’m also taking Rachel Maddow’s advice to become more involved in small projects in my community and get to know and appreciate my neighbors on a deeper level. We’re going to need each other regardless of our politics while this mess plays out.
Pressure oligarchs to tithe. And pressure their foundations to use their funds that are designated within their charters. If the corporate media would brag about all of the good things these foundations are doing for our communities maybe other oligarchs would take note and contribute to charities instead of propping up our fascist government.
YES Daniel, just look at the results when we stand up to our politicians or stand up WITH our politicians at the numerous town halls they have been encouraged to hold, whether in person or online. They have even garnered main street media coverage! Stand up and be counted and be heard!
Horrifying. One woman against a half dozen cowards. NO ONE comes to intercede. The panel of speakers doesn’t even pause — just keeps droning on, while a US citizen - white, female, sitting in her seat, acting with zero violence or intimidation, just employing her First Amendment voice at a public event — is dragged, literally kicking and screaming, from her seat and flung into the aisle where her attackers wait with zip ties. ZIP TIES! People more concerned with their selfie feeds than the civil rights of a human; or of this utter, depraved decimation of democracy. Every single person in that room enabled the vigilantes to prevail — perhaps briefly — but for long enough. The point is to intimidate, coerce and silence: not a black guy, not an immigrant, nor Asian nor Jew. A White Female at a public town hall. They are coming for you as well. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hhJdH63d6zM
And now the local press is calling them a private “Security detail” — based on zero facts, zero identification of the perpetrators of blatant assault. “Someone” claims they were hired - but no one knows by whom, what security company, nothing. Just blatant, flat-out lying. And even the local press is too intimidated to question a single thing. I want this woman’s face on a tee-shirt I can purchase. Because we’re all that woman now.
And this — the vigilante group that assaulted peaceable attendees at a legislative town hall are branding the woman as the “disrupter” and a “credible threat” to a legislator — because of course, a 90-pound red-headed female sitting in a chair in a room of hundreds of people is a clear threat to a guy who is off hiding in the wings somewhere while his thugs wander around committing assault and battery.
Latest as of 2/25, charges against her were dropped because the men were not properly ID’d as security. They had been hired by the sheriff who was there giving those men orders. Law there says that all law enforcement has to be clearly identified.
I am with you again Barbara Mullen our activism muscles need to be exercised. May I use your much better phrase "activism plan" rather than my geeky 'effective praxis'?
Here is just 1 plan set for February 28, 2025:
Join the grassroots "Feb 28 Economic Blackout" which means specfically refrain from buying at major retailers for 24 Hours.
Wall-mart, Bad Buy, Targeted & any other coward corps that are "rolling back" inclusive policies.
While I agree 100% with the boycott, I extend it to ALL businesses. Yes, there is the potential it could hurt small businesses, so for our locals that we frequent, we will shop/dine either before or after the 28th.
I think that any impacted local businesses might do even more than the big-guys. One of the rallying cries from a MAGA neighbor during COVID was that "they're forcing out small business" so I think that impact might attract more local news. (And aside, that exact same neighbor, who I would shop for as she huddled indoors, refused any offers of me bringing takeout or a gift card from the local restaurant we frequent. Too risky with virus!)
Miselle, I prefer your approach, with a caveat. I have opined here, and many expert observers agree, that one-day boycotts are ineffective. The boycotted businesses just roll their eyes and wait for tomorrow's revenues.
However, if a one-day boycott is going to get any attention at all, it must be universal – no exceptions. And frankly, the virtuous cry of "buying local" seems to overshadow the fact that most small business owners are MAGA or MAGA-friendly. If anyone needs to have the pain of their poor choices accelerated, it's these folks.
While very old school I have taken to writing snail mail letters to Republicans. In order to at least get by throwing away correspondence from obvious return addresses from out of state I pick an address for a Starbucks in the town where a local office of a senator or representative is located. I'm in hopes that at least gets the letter opened. So I have the ridiculous dream that perhaps the letter will get to the the senator or representative since the return address on the envelope is local.
The letters I write are mostly polite, scathing reviews of their actions. (Though now that I write that, the two words polite & scathing are polar opposites.)
I also call my local representative almost daily so that my concerns are logged. (As an aside to this story, the only Republican I have ever received a reply from was John McCain. I wrote to him shortly after trump's election in 2016 asking him to stand up for what is right & surprisingly enough I rec'd a reply directly from him & signed by him! I was impressed & I lament his passing.) I also write to Democratic leaders around the country encouraging to speak out more. I will be writing to Governor Pritzger to thank him for his important state of the state address he gave last week.
I have helped write post cards in support of Democratic candidates around the country. I joined the ACLU the night trump was elected in 2016. I'm a monthly donor. I'm a monthly donor to Indivisible & other lesser known resistance groups. When possible I protest.
None of this may help but being older with some health issues it's what I can do.
Sir. My hat is off to you. I believe if millions of Americans thought and did as you have been doing, we would not be in this dire situation.
I am old too. I donate what I can, write and exhort people to wake up and get busy. If there were protests in my State (Kentucky) I would find a way to get there, even with chronic vertigo.
Yes, phone calls, emails, and writing letters to legislator's home offices. It takes too long if you write to Washington. Write to Democrats that are holding the line. Write to Republicans and tell them how this is affecting you personally. And, yes, be involved locally: school boards, library boards, etc. Stop banned books from happening etc. We all have something we can DO.
Please call your House Reps TODAY as they’ll be voting on the House budget bill Trump favors that will increase the debt 4 trillion over the next decade.
“The largest proposed cut that is upsetting both sides of the aisle is a cut to SNAP and Medicaid. Johnson’s current plan includes $880 billion in spending cuts from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees Medicaid, and $230 billion from the House Agriculture Committee, which oversees SNAP.”
What’s to be done? It ain’t marching in the streets, or cajoling elected representatives to grow backbone, I’ll tell ya that.. There’s some real heavy lifting to be done. I’ll leave it there..
We stand together. We do millions of small things. Like the following:
"As President Donald Trump and France’s Emmanuel Macron today met in at the White House, American journalists from the Associated Press (AP) were barred from the press conference. But some weren’t waiting long, according to a tweet from Semafor White House Correspondent Shelby Talcott. The French press corps stepped in to ensure that a Paris-based AP reporter could go in and ask her first question. They decided amongst themselves to guarantee her entry, contending with Trump’s ongoing efforts to restrict certain news outlets. Talcott’s tweet ignited journalists across the nation and France alike to post words of support, expressing thanks and “solidarité!” It’s not the first time that AP reporters have been excluded from Trump administration press conferences. On Feb. 12, a reporter was prohibited from an event in the Oval Office after the outlet refused to change the phrase “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America” in their stylebook per Trump’s orders. The recurring press bans could pose greater issues: AP senior Vice President Julie Pace stated it “plainly violates the First Amendment.”
Of course, because Trump doesn't have the intellectual bandwith to answer questions coherently and thoughtfully and he possesses only superficial knowledge regarding policy, history, or anything else. Principles, integrity and honor are dead to him....
Crediting Donald with "superficial knowledge regarding policy, history, or anything else" is far too generous. His knowledge is scant to none.
He is an elderly putz with a demented mind that grasps little snippets of nonsense like "wet batteries don't work" or "injected disinfectant might kill a virus."
The remainder of his rotting brain cells are devoted to avoiding imprisonment and hitting little white balls toward tiny holes in the ground.
Yes, but screaming at the TV and commenting on this and other thoughtful forums helps get you through the day. My guess is that most of us are beyond going underground and becoming guerrillas due to our age, so fighting back in the courts and cheering on those who do fight back does count for something.
Yes, we are venting. However, I think the people who post here are very well informed, possess great communication and listening skills, offer a broad range of excellent ideas, think lucidly - pretty bright people. I trust that they are offering sound insights into how to try to reshape a better society. So I think everyone should continue to spread it around.
This forum and others like it also help me feel connected, that there are many others out there dedicated to keeping the focus on “doing something”, looking for “the cracks that will let the light in”. We can only make this happen together
JD, it’s not just venting. This is community building. People need to talk with each other and learn from each other. A forum like this is priceless. There is a fair bit of criticism of others this morning, and that is disheartening. Please stop tearing people down. Build people up and the results will be much better.
Support postcard/letter writing and phone banking efforts in the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme court election which Musk is reportedly dumping million$ into.
Most ask for you to do it on your own dime, some will donate supplies if you ask. If you can't afford the postage, can you get a few like minded friends to join in with you, and perhaps share your table and host a writing party? Or send $5 to one of those campaigns? https://votefwd.org/
I have called every day my ‘representatives’ clothed naked as the “king”. The concept was chaos , shredded decency , and desecrated the American Dream. It goes on in our local towns, cities, and state offices as well maintaining the poorest of states , leading this state to rule with Red fists and vote 70% for a Liar, Putin lover , Traitor and Felon taking and talking down - Our America. I have written , gone to protests , supported the push , and attempt to educate a duped public by sharing Substack liberally and sustaining PBS . But more importantly than even that , I have , and will, loved my neighbors ,mostly Trumpers, respectfully . They all knew I was one of them Damn Democrats.
I do not, nor will not hate them, nor anyone . Am the first to say I’ve made my share of mistakes, and like me, it will haunt them too.
I have been pleased that every time I recommend Tim Snyder's book, On Tyranny, to people they reply either, "Yes, I already have it!" or, "I'll go buy a copy today!" (Our local independent bookseller prices it at only $12.00.)
All of Dr Snyder's advice is excellent. I find most meaningful and helpful his twelfth section: "Make Eye Contact and Small Talk." In other words, learn now whom you will be able to trust.
Barbra: I see you are a person of action, much like myself (to a degree). I have written to our Lawmakers very often, informing them of their lack of action. I have called and written to them, to advise them tactically, on a plan of action to take, regarding trump's law breaking, as it pertains to a physical battle plan with the Special Operations Teams.
I have contacted a Retired Former U.S. President, warning him of the immediate threat trump is putting on our Constitution. I have asked Lawmakers to allow our Special Operations Teams to arrest all conspirators attempting to change or alter our Constitution using the Domestic Terrorists Act). I have informed them that although old (70), I would suit up and man a post or direct younger troops on their mission objectives.
With all that stated, I have received no replies.
Short of calling the French President, in an attempt to help me start an U.S. Underground of our own, what can I do.
Barbra, I am ex Military, DOD and FAA. I like others have protected this country all my life.
I like my Father before me, had to stand by awaiting orders to attack. All us ex-military Soldiers know that the time of action is now.
If we act, I assure you we will lose without Lawmaker support. I have seen this play before, I know how it ends, I feel your pain and heartbreak. We are United in our weakness, I assure you.
Be Strong and continue to move forward. Take a Warriors Stance and do not give ground or stop fighting for what is right.
There is much to be done, and I agree that if we prize self-determination, the buck ultimately stops with us. That said, democracy is a conversation or it isn't real democracy, and our nation's founders did a lot of reading and discussing before, during and after their physical fight for freedom. Had they not done so, they might have successfully rebelled, but come up with a new Boss, same as the old Boss. And now we are engaged in a great civil war.
I agree Democracy is a wonderful thing for discussion. It is rich with many layers and nuance. However. At this time we must put down the pen and pick up our swords.
I've been involved with local politics: canvassing, community events, voting rights group volunteer, parade marching, protest march, local election office volunteer, sign posting, sign delivery, letter writing to officials at all levels as well as to media, and, donating what I can to candidates and causes I believe in. And keeping informed from multiple sources.
Do what you can locally. My efforts are towards sane family and inlaws family, especially younger folks, to make sure they are well read and well informed. Low info voters went for the felon, more informed voters supported Harris. Efforts to get them to vote if they didn’t and continued efforts with other like minded close persons in my life, maybe so my efforts will encourage them to reach out in their own lives. Work small. Many small efforts results in overwhelming results.
Can you honestly tell me what good clever name calling does in a coup d'etat against the United States? The time for name calling and "venting" is over folks.
JennSH: The prosecution would need to prove that the crimes committed were not part of DJT’s official duties based on the Supreme Court ruling. Hopefully the evidence has not been destroyed
My unconditional sympathy remains with Ukraine and my sorrow at this U.S. collusion through kompromat. As an American I hang my head in shame with respect to Ukraine:
Of Note: Zelensky, and Macron have Schooled DJT Publicly... This is how You Deal with a Bully... Seems that Resistance to this Putin abetted Regime is Arising... Musk Plays on Putin's Side as Well... Seems that the Feud between Zelensky, and DJT is Personal... It is always Personal with DJT... The First Impeachment of DJT was over DJT's attempted extortion of Zelensky to investigate Hunter Biden over his Ukrainian Activites, and to turn-over a fictitious Russian Email Server... A newly elected Zelensky stood his ground, and did not cooperate with a Sham Investigation... "Rejecting the U.S. offer of evacuation, Zelensky replied: “The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.”" .... I can only imagine DJT's answer... Maybe DJT would want to build a Golf Course, and Hotel in Moscow... When asked about his opinion of Zelensky, David Petreus relied, "Churchillian"... Zelensky is a Leader, DJT is a Delusional Grifter... The Russians have always been Brutal, and Crude in their Wars, and Enforcement Actions... Putin is now cashing in on his Investment with DJT... 'Foreign Policy' reports that Russia is losing the War with its Economy Collapsing, and its Demographics Collapsing as Well... DJT may yet save Putin by pushing forward a Ceasefire favorable for Russia, and integrating it back into the G-7 with the lifting of the Economic Sanctions... Israel voted against the UN Resolution condemning Russian Aggression? Hmm? ...
Friendly correction: it was the Soviets who saw in Trump an idiot who had the classic qualifications to be an asset: egomania and greed. Putin's just carrying on with the plan his predecessors put in play in the late 1990.
Yes, it’s never TCF coming up with ideas - especially now - it’s always his handlers. He’s turning into an orange blob before our very eyes. One day he’ll slide off his chair onto the floor and someone will have to scoop him up. And he’s not even recyclable waste!!!
Trump has chosen this path as Ukraine continues to resist and sanctions are clearly hurting Russia. I believe Trump will relieve American sanctions, but American corporations will certainly find any investment in Russia too dangerous to follow Trump down that road.
Thanks Kim... The French have found this out at least twice already... The USA firms as well... Friedrich(?) Koch found this out in the 1930s after he set up the Russian Oil Industry for Stalin....
We can hope that Elon joins them soon... Part of Justin Trudeau's issue with DJT is that during their 1st meeting in 2017, Melania was making 'Google Eyes' at Trudeau... Justin Trudeau is Smart, Tall, Dark, and Handsome... DJT is ?...
Thank you for contacting me regarding the war in Ukraine. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
Russia is a cancerous, evil regime that threatens our national security by attempting to control as much of Europe and Eurasia as it can. It also supports the regimes in Iran, Communist China, Cuba, and Venezuela. All of them continually seek to harm the United States and force us into a position of dependence upon them for our livelihood. Vladimir Putin’s unjustifiable and unlawful invasion of Ukraine is just one more example of this fact. I believe that the United States must continue to stand strongly with Ukraine and provide the lethal military aid it needs to win this war. Putin’s murderous attacks are a threat to our national security and the security of our democratic allies.
While we must continue to support democracy in Ukraine, I will not allow Russia’s unjust invasion to deprioritize or slow progress on solving urgent domestic issues such as securing the border, fighting inflation and rebuilding our national defense. Congress can continue to act and solve these issues, which we owe to the American people.
As Florida’s U.S. Senator, and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue fighting for allies around the world, while also ensuring we take care of our families here at home. I am proud to represent every citizen in Florida and I appreciate the time you took to provide your position on this matter. Should you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
I have been pressing our local House reps, Ashley Moody.
TREASON may be more important to Ernst. By now sh's also lost her crop subsidies, and I bet Iowans are not happy with cuts to Medicaid -- hospitals failing -- thousands of jobs lost.
Glad to hear it. Looks like the 9th year is the 'charm' to embrace truth for these 'brave leaders'. FINALLY! Macron must feel like he is in a Communist country that the leader just sits there and lies and is nonplussed anyone contradicts him. Reminds of the time Obama turned Raul Castro over to the press to answer questions and the guy was befuddled.
Apache, I keep thinking what is going on with Putin and Toddler-Trump is more like Putin has something to hold over Trump's head and Trump doesn't want it released because his cult might not like him and worship him anymore. I say, "Go Europe." If the US is going to permit an old man with dementia and no skills beyond grifting, to serve as president, they will need to stick together and ignore the US. I am guessing there were some shenanigans with this past election. I don't know how it was done, but just enough votes were transferred to Toddler-Trump to give him victories, somehow in every "swing" state? The military industrial complex is going to be furious with Toddler-Trump, cutting off an important income source to satisfy the demands of his buddy, fellow toddler, Putin.
Trump can negotiated a one-sided peace deal with only Russia at the table, but Ukraine clearly has Putin on the ropes. More and more Russian troops are deserting because the Ukrainians have cut off their supply routes and refueling capabilities. The Russian army is now stealing trucks to use as military vehicles which isn't a great look when you're trying to negotiate from a position of strength.
Trump is going to try to give as much aid to Putin as he can, but it's not going to sit well giving to Putin and firing thousands of Federal government employees at the same time.
And if the market continues on it's downward spiral, Trump is going to catch hell from the oligarchs. Notably, yesterday Democrat Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway gain 4% while the S&P dropped another .5%. And Tesla dropped another 2%.
This posting, Apache, is quite fabulous. A wonderful summary. A clear indication for me as to why I read these comments. While I, of course, deeply appreciate HCR, I also have learned so much from her supporters. (I’m Canadian, Montreal, Quebec)
We need FOUR Republicans to stand with the Democrats!
Trump is obviously compromised by Putin. Trump appears to be acting as a Russian asset. He is a DANGER to our country and MUST BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE using the 25th amendment.
Trump LIED to the American people. They voted for lower prices, NOT a dictatorship. He is making our country defenseless with his choices for cabinet. He must be stopped!
Start with these Republicans. Point out Trumps polls are rapidly dropping. People are protesting all over the country. They will NOT be re-elected.
Don't bother with my Senior Senator, Susan Collins. I wrote her several times recently, begging her not to vote for the unqualified cabinet nominees RFK Jr. & Tulsi Gabbard (2 separate letters), listing the reasons they were unqualified. Have heard bupkis from her. FYI- Collins hasn't held a town hall in any Maine city or town since 2019!
Our junior Senator, Angus King, has been great - giving several barnburner speeches on the floor or the Senate. As a former 2 term governor Angus King is so far above the capabilities of Susan Collins.
I tried to call Susan Collins's Bangor office number 3 times last week. It didn't even ring once, it just immediately hung up on me. Maybe her staff is tired of being yelled at or threatened. Hard to know. Perhaps try 1) calling the DC number, 2) go to one of her offices in person or 3) request an appointment with her. If you get an appointment bring lots of friends.
I’ve been calling Collins DC office- usually have to leave a recorded message- did get an intern a couple of times who seemed totally disgusted that people were calling. I keep reminding her that Mainahs won’t send her back to DC in 2026! Have never supported her!
I call Collins’ office every day and never get a live person. I call both Washington & Portland, Maine. Over the years, they used to answer the phone sometimes, but now I consistently get a recording. We need a change in DC.
I was more than happy , loved to see Macron silence Trump as Trump started with lies. Macron’s hand in Trump’s arm was a beautiful gesture that we can equate with a parent quieting an unruly child which Trump is. I also noticed how Trump was cowed into silence. Hunched shoulders downcast face. A classic bully who is stopped in his tracks.
So America sided with North Korea and along side Israel. I feel as though my barn is burning and all I have to fight it is a bucket and a dry well.
This is such a critical test of who and what America is. We need more buckets and more water Now!!
Just remember, the good guys always win. tRump, Muskrat and Pootin are proving themselves to be cartoon villains - tRump announcing they’re going to Ft Knox to see if the gold is still there - like really. They’re a boom and bust business whose doors will soon be permanently closed.
If only, our own Republican leaders had the kahunas to correct Trump. Trump has frozen hundreds of millions from almost every state and crickets from both sides of the aisle for the most part.
Under Republican control, the checks and balances in the Constitution are non-existent in Congress and the Courts.
Jan, yes, isn't it great to see courage in action. It seems here no one can tell Toddler-Trump "no." They are just too scared of the toddler-bully. I am guessing he has something on every single one of the cowardly Republicans who whine that Trump should be able to do whatever he wants. If that is the case, why are they in office, taking money for doing nothing for their constituents? That makes them deadbeats!
And somewhat surprising to hear Merz, a confirmed transatlanticist, speak about Europe moving away from the US, geopolitically speaking, taking the hectoring admonitions of Hegseth, Vance and Trump at face value.
By his words of Feb 19, President Trump gives the appearance of being subservient to Putin. Cowed. Afraid. Controlled. Owned. His allegiance is to Putin, not to the American people.
By the vote yesterday at the United Nations, aligning the US officially with Russia and North Korea, President Trump makes us, the 340 million citizens of the United States of America, servants of Putin as well. Unwilling but at his bidding.
The GDP of the US and Europe combined is forty times bigger than Russia's GDP. Our combined population is seven times bigger than Russia. Putin is a pipsqueak! Trump treats him like he's a big strongman but he's tiny. I wish the mass media Press would tell the truth about this. By his cowardly words and actions, Trump has made America, the strongest nation on Earth, the political inferior to one of the weakest countries on Earth.
Three additional thoughts not covered explicitly in the essay but are deeply implied. 🤔
1st, the newly liberated socialist republics (i,e,, the Baltics) and former soviet vassals (e.g., Poland) moved West as new democracies toward N.A.T.O. And why would they not after the immense suffering under the U.S.S.R.? That is to say: N.A.T.O. did NOT move East. Why would these liberated nations not move West and why would N.A.T.O. leave them vulnerable to renewed aggression that Russia had shown starting in the early-to-mid 1990s? 🤝
2nd, Putin is fighting an existential war. He sees the independence of Ukraine in 1991 as a secession of the intellectual motor of the U.S.S.R. Putin believes that letting Ukraine exit started the slow process of complete disintegration of the Mongol-Russian-Soviet empire. 😱
3rd, it may take seven days, seven weeks, seven months, seven years, seven decades, or even seven generations for Ukraine to prevail and reclaim her land, but Ukraine will triumph. 💡
I follow the news pretty closely, but always come to Dr. Richardson's posts to get clarification and confirmation that what I'm paying attention to is what matters. I am so grateful to have this invaluable resource.
I sincerely hope you are not following mainstream (legacy) media. They are owned by oligarchs. All of them. The reality of what is really happening is not in legacy media. Musk is a fascist. Trump is a puppet of Project 2025 and Putin. We are in an active coup here in America.
Please support Substack writers such Joyce Vance, Ann Teleas, Jen Rubin and many others. Read The Contrarian on Substack. Support podcasts such Brian Tyler Cohen, Meidas Touch, Ben Meiselas and others. Join Bluesky.
It is only by being thoroughly informed we are able to spread the truth.
We will need the legacy media. Pressure them to be better. By all means seek out other sources. But stop trying to destroy the very journalists we need to be better and braver to help us fight off this autocracy. The AP is legacy media. PBS/NPR are legacy media. Both are doing a fantastic job. If you bury yourself in an echo chamber, we will be no better off than we are now.
Berating others who come here to be informed is short-sighted and just not helpful. Build each other up and stop tearing people down. We are all trying our best to do what we can in the face of this crisis.
Interesting comments this weekend by historian Robert Kagan at The Bulwark. He says that legacy media don't fully understand that this is a complete ideological change. He says the move by the Heritage Foundation is Anti-Liberalism. If he is right, and he is convincing, then there is hope that this will be discovered sooner or later to be the fundamental revolution it is. The hope is that the message gets more clear.
“I sincerely hope you are not following mainstream (legacy) media.”
We are not all in the same place on any given day. I believe letting people be who they are, and if that means today I am tired so I’ll just inform myself, because tomorrow I will march or call it write, then that’s great. Tomorrow when I’m marching, you might need to rest.
We all need that grace sometimes.
Telling people what to do, yelling that we are in a coup, is not helpful. If someone is here, as a paid subscriber, trust they are paying attention. That’s all I’m saying.
I have friends and family in legacy media and they are working really hard under incredible strain. I don’t want them to lose their jobs either. And when DJT comes for a blogger, he’ll win. The big media has resources to fight back.
Mainstream= White Bread Media! Moved to Bluesky, Substack and I am following all those you mentioned. Boycott Amazon, Walmart, Target and those retailers that removed their DEI policies. Hit the billionaires in their wallets! Support your local farmers and tighten your belts!🇺🇸🇺🇦🌻
With you all the way. What good is MSM when they continue to spin the facts or eliminate them entirely? Boycott anyone and anything that supports Trump, the billionaire oligarchs and project 2025
I'm only 70. Still remember Cronkite, Huntley-Brinkley. Never thought I would hear"never has credible information been more accessible". As Prof Richardson and L. Lessig have written, with just a little preface, the end of an honest mainstream media started with Reagan, the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine, and the moving of news departments to the "entertainment" departments. That's when the brainwashing began. Thankyou Substack.
Let's not get lost in the weeds. By and large it is no secret a corporate media is oligarch owned, biased and corrupt.
Speaking of O'Donnell. Sad to say he is on the chopping block next in a long parade of firings of the voices of patriotism that formerly worked at mainstream media.
Remember way above I apologized for breaking into the thread to address the question I had about the legacy media, specifically NYTimes?? The very high number of 'likes' in this part of today's thread has given me the answer . . . quite unequivocally!!
Putin will eventually be defeated and so will MusKKK along with his buddy, The Criminal. I don’t know how and I don’t know when, but they will all have a reckoning. I just want to be alive to witness it all. In my heart of hearts, I think Biden prepared the leaders of the EU for a moment like this. If not previously, perhaps he is working in the background still. No one has respect for The Criminal and certainly not for MusKKK. They’re shaking their heads wondering how a great nation of people could possibly fall victim to this traitor twice. I ask myself that question every damn day!
We will prevail! We don’t have time to falter or to obey.
I absolutely feel as you do. And I come here nightly, to try to gain enough courage for another day into the abyss. Never ever did I think to see our abasement on the world stage. Bravo to Macron today.
Yes, Marcia, bravo to Macron! You’re reminding me of watching him walk across the courtyard where he could have been killed by a sniper to the strains of Beethoven’s Ninth, the newly elected president of France. He and Zelenskyy are a pair. We have examples of public courage.
Indeed. There will come a reckoning, followed by a period of national atonement. Then the spirits of the soldiers buried at Arlington, Normandy, Flanders Fields, Gettysburg, and Lexington can once again rest in peace.
CALL the Republicans in Congress. Tell them Trump is dropping in the polls quickly. People are protesting. They won’t be re-elected if they don’t stop him. He needs to be removed from office. He is unfit. Ukraine did not start the war! They are our ally. Putin/Russia is our enemy.
If we all call, not just our own representatives, maybe they will stop him.
Malene, Heather wrote several weeks ago the something like 18% of Trump voters don't follow politics. In other words, they blindly voted for Trump and had no clue what he was going to do.
You and me both. How could people vote for this lying miscreant, not once, not twice, but for some of them three times? They don't have the luxury of hiding behind mis/disinformation. Plenty of them went in with eyes wide open. They clearly knew who/what he stood for and wanted to accomplish. He said it many times, in plain English. And we screamed P2025 from the mountaintops, and what the fallout would be. Never did I imagine he would throw both Americans and Ukraine and the EU to the wolves in such quick fashion. At least he's got everyone hating him at the same time. We can all stand in solidarity, which helps turn the tide that much faster.
Does Your optimism have a basis in reality. Our MSM has been entertaining for decades, but the population is still addicted to Fox and clones with only paid outlets pushing back. Yes, I shake my head and wonder…but we all know, don’t we
Apropos of little but this intensifying insanity, the current issue of the NY Review of Books describes the “inspiration” for PrezM-sk’s “unusual” first name: [it] was inspired by…a novel Wernher von Braun (the Na-zi’s leading rocket scientist) wrote, describing the political system on the Martian colony:
“The Martian government was directed by ten men, the leader of whom was elected … for five years and entitled ‘Elon.’ “In the novel, the colonization of the red planet is part of God’s plan to create the ‘Ubermensch’…. It is a mission whose ultimate objective was planned by God Himself to bring together the ‘germ plasms of rational creation in our solar system that may thrive and grow into a higher and more noble organism.’ “
Tech reporter Kara Swisher, who has known Elon personally for a long time, says that Elon's wish is to die on Mars. Even he is not rich enough to get to Mars, so he wants the US government to get him there.
Trump and Musk were both making calls to foreign leaders both before the election and prior to inauguration. I would seriously hope that both Biden and Obama are reaching out to these leaders! Behind the scenes, of course, don't give MAGA any fodder to spin.
Macron demolished Trump. He had truth on his side and Trump withered into his chair like a shriveled up snake. The world leader isn’t residing in the US anymore.
I usually like being right. Not this time. It was clear in November. War is coming, unless we can remove the menace from the Oval Office and shut down the illegal 'co-president'. The Democratic Party leaders in the House and Senate have to confront this cabal, physically, because all this speech-giving and suit-filing is going to be ignored.
James, two news items from yesterday regarding what the Democratic Party leaders have been up to --
1) The DCCC took $2.5 million in contributions from the lobbyists for both Palantir, that’s PETER THIEL who's the benefactor of this coup’s architect Curtis Yarvin and installer of the traitor VP Vance, and for SpaceX, yes, THAT SpaceX!
2) And while we've been hanging on by our fingernails to keep hold of some semblance of a democracy and loudly begging the Dems to do anything, to show some leadership, the very top leadership have been conspicuously MIA. Today I learned that Kamala Harris has been busy signing with the same Hollywood agent that represents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/02/19/kamala-harris-caa-creative-artists-agency/79216896007/
It's all on us. And when we do it, when we prevail, we'll need to do a deep clean of our own house, too.
Philoctetes... I Wholeheartedly Agree... In Crisis, You Find Your True Friends... Where are the Obamas?... Where Are The Clintons?... Where Is Harris?... Are They Oligarchs Now?
One of my senators, Ron Wyden, has his hair on fire. In the end, if we successfully fight back against this, it will not be the likes of Obama and Clinton who lead. It will be senators like Wyden, Sanders, and Murphy. It will be historians, like professor Richardson, academics, scientists, lawyers, judges, dedicated organizers.
People need to get creative like, yesterday. All the offices of GOP reps and senators need to be besieged and there need to be teams of people that do not stop harassing them in public until they are miserable. And if you think that's uncivil, you should try dictatorship and unlawful persecution and arrest by a strongman.
I agree... Resistance will have to be Grassroots from the 'Bottom-Up' in order to Resist the 'Top-Down' Tyranny... It will have to stay within 1st Amendment Boundaries... Lech Wałęsa's 'Solidarity' Movement in Poland is a Good Example...
My opinion of Obama changed forever when he cozied up to trump at Carter's funeral. We must demand more from our leaders. Speeches don't cut it. Action now.
It’s been longstanding tradition for Presidents to step back during admins of current Presidents. The only one to show utter disrespect and incivility has been Trump, and former Presidents and military officials as from both parties have broken protocol and criticized him, even campaigned for Biden and for Harris—unprecedented. But the MSM and ubiquitous MAGA mouthpieces like FOX and OAN cannot be understated. The leap to BlueSky and Substack has been a very recent movement comparatively. Which means that messaging for Democracy has not been accessible or prevalent enough to reach the people. Expecting our past Democratic leaders to jump into the gap—especially the Clintons, Harris and Biden, who quite frankly have been treated like crap by progressive Dems and Republicans alike, to lead the charge is not fair. Bernie Sanders is still in elected position on Capitol Hill and he is speaking out, as are many Democratic statesmen, but how much of what they are saying is covered by the prevalent media distribution?? Yarvin and Vance put forward an April timeline for silencing opposition outlets. We had better find ways to be heard and it’s not on Obama to come in on a white charger.
I felt differently when I saw Obama “cozy up to Trump”. I saw this as strategic. “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer”. I don’t think the others could ever pull this off …. For good reason…
I don’t believe that Obama “cozied up” to Trump at Carter’s funeral. I think he is able to have pity on the shell of a person that Trump is and was distracting him as one would a child.
And, Chris, fortunately our democracy is just barely still free enough that both of us can express our differing views in an open forum and not (yet) be rounded up for them. I cling to the hope that change by the people, which is where it belongs and which has been the driving force many times in the past too numerous to list here when our politicians also failed us, will prevail again and we will get the chance to disagree often and say so openly as we create our own new, better, more perfect path forward.
Um, one wonders how much more divided the country can become . . . or should people like Jon Stewart who has an immense platform and criticized lack of Democratic leadership just sit down and shut up?
Pretty sure that wish has already been granted... in spades. And I'm not an authority by any stretch on Hitler and the Nazis so I can't speak to the qualifications of his criminals though most had the most important one for dictators, loyalty, but too many were too terribly competent in many of the missions he tasked them with... until they weren't. I hope for a quick until they weren't for us.
Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel are among those publicly shaming and calling out the actions of the Republican administration (and Musk). Kudos to them all!
Sludge is very reputable. They often come up with investigative news that a few days to a week later then gets msm coverage.
"Sludge’s reporting has been cited by The Guardian, NPR, Politico, CNN, The Intercept, Newsweek, The Daily Beast, New York Post, Slate, HuffPost, The Appeal, Jewish Insider, Right Wing Watch, Motherboard, Washington Examiner, Gizmodo, The New Republic, AdWeek, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Advocate, Rewire News, The Washington Post, and many state and local newsrooms."
We have to stop looking to former leadership. They obviously aren't going to step up since they've had a month to show us their true colors. We need to find some new faces and voices. I really don't care whether these people come from the Democratic party or not, but we need a face and a name to focus the resistance.
It's premature until they violate final court orders. When the orange clown defies the SCOTUS, then its decision time. Accept coup or remove him, but not before.
They are defying court orders. It’s part of the blitz. It’s in the plan. 180 days or less is the timeline for the power grab. The pace of these court cases are living at a snails pace which is essentially making the judicial checks obsolete (look at the Trump games over the last 4 years). By the time it gets to SCOTUS it will be a done deal.
You really have to be seriously lacking in strategic thinking when you betray, cut loose your allies. Felon47 has obliterated the US’s reputation and its standing on the international stage. It is no longer trusted. F47 thinks this is a smart move but doesn’t comprehend that allyship is a two way street. The stock market will crash. The US will suffer economically, strategically, socially. It will be isolated from the rest of the free world. It could take generations for it to recover from the pariah status he has plunged it into. This quisling smugamug does not deserve to breath the same air as a crocodile in a swamp
You realize this is Project 2025 in play. This was the plan all along. Name calling is a waste of time. Get active. Join a street protest. Write your congress person. Become active locally in politics. Become extremely informed about what is really happening.
It is time for Americans to wake up. There is a coup d'etat in the United States happening now. Today.
One surprise to me are the seemingly sanguine business people, many of whom barely wait to condemn their own minority hiring efforts and send showy tribute to the Throne, seemingly supposing that Trumps threats and betrayals against allies will not come around to bite them. It looks to be a very rough ride for everyone if the power-mad Republican Party has it's way. That's to say nothing of long term threats of pandemics and global heating, which Republicans pretend are not a problem. Look before leaping, no?
I am glad to be in France right now. But I still have residence and vote in the US and fully intend to call my representative and two Democratic senators today to tell them to get a spine, as per Josh Marshall at TPM, and tell them no deal with the GOP on the budget unless that party refuses to countenance a treasonous criminal coup in the US.
There is going to come a point, and we may be there, when they will fear us as a collective more than their pathetically foolish MAGA base.
As for Europe's security, for the moment I am proud to live in a country that values pluralism, has enshrined a woman's reproductive rights in their constitution, and remains for the moment democratic, and will help defend it on the front lines if necessary, just as I would in the US were I living there.
My hope is the outrage for Trump starts gaining more muscle over his lies about the war in Ukraine. I need stronger words for the jeopardy Trump has put the country in as he sides with Russia/Putin. I saw a letter and post on Monday from my NC Senator Thom Tills. Tillis was speaking the truth about the war in Ukraine. He knows Russia started the war. My hope is that Tillis and others will finally stand up to Trump. I hoped Tillis would do something earlier, but he’s too busy begging for Trump’s endorsement for his upcoming Senate campaign.
We must all hold our elected leaders responsible and accountable. I am calling and writing again in the morning.
Thank you, Heather for your history lesson which gives context for a better understanding of what is happening.
I will be calling Thom Tillis today. I have his phone numbers in my contacts list. I also have Ted Budd’s number and Tim Moore (my House member) number.
The only person who responds in writing is Tillis.
Thank you, Marlo. I had some of these numbers, and I just added the rest to my phone. He is my Senator, and I will call every number today and thank him for speaking up on Ukraine. Encouragement. Historian Robert Kagan says that we need only a few Senators to start standing up to Trump. That will be the big shift.
The lesson here from Dr. Richardson today? We need to fight. We need to take the spirit of the Ukraine people, the outrage of Canada, the victory of Germany, the strength of other Countries and the audacity of Macron and end this coup in the United States.
Do not. Do not talk about eggs, golf or all the other distractions being thrown at us all day. Focus. Focus on defeating a coup. Protest. Write Congress. Tell others what is happening. Find your way to fight back effectively.
Of all the destruction coming from this government, the most irreparable of all would in the international arena. Trump's standing by, and unconditional support of putin aggression in glorious Ukraine is just a justification of aggressive actions around the world by the US ,namely, in Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Panama and Ukraine itself in a kind of Ribbentrop Marco Rubio/Molotov Sergey LeBron pact.
Ricardo I see it differently. I have been pleasantly surprised by the rising up of the world leaders. I have been given hope by Germany, France, Canada and the Countries joining together to fight against what trump and putin are trying to do.
I have great hope putin and his puppet will go down in flames.
We have to be realistic in that they are also contending with oligarchs and right wing, anti-immigrant, Russian troll farm disinformation and it has already made their extreme right parties rise. They have their work cut out for them, and having the US bail is no small thing for them, politically.
Daniel, this is not a country that was a month ago. This is looking more and more like Russia and Hungary. Look at the countries that voted with the US at the UN to condemn Ukraine as the aggressor in the war.
I see that too Barbara and that gives me hope but that doesn't mean that the damage being done is going to be reversed. The confidence in our country and its leadership are lost internationally, and it would take generations to rebuild, if ever.
Our main focus should be the midterm election, and no, it's not too early to keep an eye on that since they have their plans drawn already with several alternatives . I keep saying, that's the point of no return, that's our Rubicon.
Thanks Barbara for your prolific and right on target comments and replies 😀
Has anybody thought out how this will work with our military if we get any more involved on the side of Russia? Will America send military advisors? Will veteran generals and leaders down the line comply with orders from Heaghseth and co.? It’s one thing to have a turncoat in the midst of an army; it’s quite another to redirect the entire army to the will of that turncoat.
YES. ABSOLUTELY! One must ask HOW, this most recent firing of our trusted and high ranking military advisors at the Pentagon will affect our Troops serving all over the world.
At the very least, it erodes their trust in their leaders and undermines their safety and our security. Our Government our belief systems, our morals are being pulled from beneath us .
Our elected representitives are not willing to leave their comfortable safe chairs at the Capital and go home and lead. They need be present in our daily lives to lead us through the fall of our Democracy. Every day they ask for more money to get people elected.
It is too late for that.We are dealing with a Regime. They won't go. He will never leave the TRUMP HOLE AGAIN! My God, he is talking about a third term. COUP, WAR, REVOLT , we get closer every day.
Exactly. Most soldiers have been trained by the folks that pointed their ire to the Russians, so how many of those folks will they have to clear out? Trump wants his own version of the Wagner group, but he will shake up more than the top brass. Even the Wagner Group defected when they lost the loyalty of their leader.
I loved growing up in the time when America was the acknowledged savior of the world. Ike was the hero and it was a time when I was proud and the world celebrated with me. This world view has stayed with me for most of my long life. The Marshall Plan and the GI Bill were two examples of how America responded to the needs of a hurting world. I worked for civil service early on and worked with men who still bore scars from the conflict, either combat or concentration camps. One had been on the Bataan Death March. Then I watched as the country tried to cope with the murder of a president, tried to right the wrongs of our racist past and took some turns that, at the time, seemed to be wrong, but corrected. The law prevailed, thanks to other heroes and sheroes of mine, Barbara Jordan and Everett Dirksen come to mind. But I didn’t know so much that went on behind the scenes and would not become known for decades. Since then I have watched as republicans have chipped away at every value that I held dear. The W/Dickie fiasco was so hard to bear as I watched evil in the name of America spread like a dark shadow. This in spite of almost universal good will as America suffered from an attack on our land. What a wasted opportunity. The election of Obama seemed to be the antidote for the horror that repubs unleashed by stealing the 2000 election. But I underestimated the hatred that a deeply tanned man in a tan suit unleashed. Mitch and the tea party, with Rupert’s megaphone of propaganda, made sure that the hatred for blacks would taint him as well. Step into the fray came chump. My world view of America as “the good guys” held as long as I could believe that I was one of a sane majority. And it seemed so. But as the greedy bastards bought the 2024 election, and Rupert and republicans never took a break from the most egregious lies, I had to admit that the cult was the winner of the hearts and minds of my friends and neighbors. Now America is the Nazi regime of this time, the evil to be defeated, the greedy bastards who betray allies and switch sides in the middle of a war. Not only that but want to financially rape a country that we supported and keep them in servitude for perpetuity. I am ashamed to be an American. I am not and will never be an American of the Trump ilk. And the America of my youth is no more.
Well said, JD. I agree, that the US absolutely pissed away the goodwill following the attacks on US soil on 09-01-01, and we have never recovered. We have met the enemy and he is us.
It was gratifying to see a confident and assertive Macron correct Trump’s alternative facts.
Alternative facts, ergo lies.
He can't disappear soon enough.
Today, I am European.
Time for the pendulum to swing the other way.
Yes John, I agree. McCain/Fingold had fixed it but the reactionary conservative court, which has little to do with traditional conservatism, did us in.
We owe it all to Moscow Mitch McConnell.
Oh my: I really like that S Brasseux: "marry in haste, repent at leisure." I'm definitely borrowing that one.
I am ashamed to be American, but enjoy your breath of fresh air, a rarity in our world
People who are ashamed of something cannot defend it. Please reconsider your stance.
I am not ashamed. I am outraged. I will be damned if they take America.
We women will stand up to this mess and correct it!
We "know" JDinTx better than her frustration venting Barb. *We have to be patient as we can and watch for righteous outrage to build. I'd add that it's likely not a good idea to be resentful and righteous when the deluded come around. No one likes to hear "I told you so." We need their numbers.
Thank you.
My husband and I struggle everyday regarding leaving the US. But we are in our 70's, yet healthy and athletic, so are conflicted about moving at this time. Our plan is to travel often, stay in airbnb's abroad and find as much distraction in our photography and other activities.
There is a worldwide boycott of Airbnb, by travelers and hosts, since Joe Gebbia, a co-founder, has joined up with DOGE.
Thank you for this information. After my upcoming 5 day trip to Mexico, I will no longer use that company.
Oh hell no!
NOOO Stephanie, now is the time to stand up and be heard, stand up and be counted as against the moral and fiscal depradations of the tRump muskrats! Let your Congress critters know every day and in every way the importance of reclaiming our country’s political system!
Yes, use the 5Calls app to easily call your congressional representatives and senators everyday. Republicans and Democrats!!
And get “shot in the legs” while protesting? T’s moves with the military have chilled me to the bone. My father immigrated to get away from that type of sh!t.
(I’m not in a position to leave the country, but the pull is strong.)
If I were young I would either leave the USA or join a resistance group and fight the domestic nazis!
Margaret, I am not young either. However, I'm not too old to join a resistance group and neither are you. Let's not go down without a fight.
Nothing has to be done perfectly, it just needs to be done. 😉
And resistance can take many forms. We each have to find our own way.
Your desire to be "distracted" in the face of the rest of us looking for solutions large and small is not the petty comment I would have expected on this commentary after Heather's words about Macron and the need for support of for Ukraine.
But i can understand her sentiment.
Don't use Air B&B. They are contributors to trump.
Trump's body language during the Macron interview was similar to his posture in that infamous picture with G7 leaders in 2018 - https://s3.r29static.com/bin/entry/d9a/0,0,2000,1050/x,80/1978772/image.jpg
Trump could (try to) be Putin’s savior. Imagine how that would puff up tfg even more.
Only with Putin’s permission….
I'll donate too even though I really can't afford to.
Nor can I, but every $3.00 helps, especially with matches.
Ouch!
I'm one of the millions that agreed with you.
Some have considered the need for Democrat leadership to grow one or several also.
Granted.
If by “woke” you mean “diversity and inclusion” I hope you will rethink your position. The racism shared by Trump, Musk, Thiel, etc., is part of what is killing US. The sacking of the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is proof of that.
Racism has been our nation's original sin from the get go. It still induces madness, discord and deaths. It's catastrophically internecine.
Well said Bill! I am stunned at our nation and its lack of moral fortitude.
To give the presidency to an obvious Putin asset has abolished everything positive about being an American.
Can’t move there but will be in Florence this Fall. And Ischia in April.
I will pretend I’m Italian🥰
Have fun. I’d like to be speaking French regularly too.
I am considering leaving also!
Hear! Hear!
Curious to think how the Federalist Society has sold out our country through rapacious and immoral nominees to our Courts.
We'll, it was a team effort after all; they were approved.
Bingo. Thank you, indirectly, to Citizens United in 2010.
The one thing they couldn't grant him immunity from was his innate stupidity and that's eventually going to be his downfall.
I totally agree!!! Give him enough rope…
Jimmy Kimmel thinks that he's just a dummy.
Ya.. I agree; and you’re correct. It is a big “but”.
From your lips to the goddess's ears.
RTN, and none of those you named: Putin and the robber barrens is worth their weight in trash. It proves big money makes a person nothing but rich, worthy to be ignored, yet we keep setting them up almost as demigods! That is nuts!
Rich Trash? Not all are trash but some in power are. My favorite sticker (on my daughter's computer):
"Is he Rich or does he just have money?"
LOVE this!!!
Elon has a lot of money.
Huge vote coming up in the House.
I can see that. One of the reasons people join the military is because they would rather be told what to do than have to make their own decisions.
Absolutely!
Well said.
What is your plan to seeing that happens? This is on us. No politician is going to save the day. So again, I ask. What is your activism plan?
Name calling and venting on a forum do not make this happen.
Do something,
Phone calls and emails to my Washington contingent—I live in Idaho so I don’t delude myself it will yield much in the way of tangible results. I’m also taking Rachel Maddow’s advice to become more involved in small projects in my community and get to know and appreciate my neighbors on a deeper level. We’re going to need each other regardless of our politics while this mess plays out.
Thank you so much. Yes. We do need each other.
Pressure Republicans.
And Democrats.
Hello Idaho - I hope you stand with this woman who was brutally dragged from her seat at a “legislative town hall” on Saturday:
At Saturday’s “legislative town hall” in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hhJdH63d6zM
Because we’re all that woman now.
https://cdapress.com/news/2025/feb/22/town-hall-security-detail-remains-mystery.
And this — the vigilante group that assaulted peaceable attendees at a legislative town hall are branding the woman as the “disrupter” and a “credible threat” to a legislator — because of course, a 90-pound red-headed female sitting in a chair in a room of hundreds of people is a clear threat to a guy who is off hiding in the wings somewhere while his thugs wander around committing assault and battery.
https://www.kxly.com/news/multiple-democrats-forcibly-removed-from-kootenai-county-republican-central-committee-town-hall/article_d1193910-f184-11ef-915d-378d5a85c32b.html
Latest as of 2/25, charges against her were dropped because the men were not properly ID’d as security. They had been hired by the sheriff who was there giving those men orders. Law there says that all law enforcement has to be clearly identified.
Thank you. But where are the assault charges for these guys? And the “sheriff”?
I couldn't get through to the item. Just a multi-page description of how to control your on-line ads. tthhhhhfffft!
You make good points!
Take Care. God Bless America.
Once I'm off pain meds and reasonably ambulatory*, I plan to find a busy corner in Eugene and stand with a "sign de jour" for an hour a day.
*One week out from knee replacement, which went well. First PT today. Ain't goin' anywhere.
Take care Ally. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
A Strong Woman. SALUTE!
Johnson’s current plan includes $880 billion in spending cuts from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees Medicaid, and $230 billion from the House Agriculture Committee, which oversees SNAP.”
https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2025-02-24/whats-in-the-house-budget-bill-and-whats-delaying-it
What’s to be done?
OR
Sit on our hands and criticize.
It's up to us
SOLIDARITE' USA
My answer: I gave a donation to AP.
going to do that right now.
Neat idea!!
Venting on a forum does precious little.
Good point.
There is constructive venting (the kind that comes with a to do list). Then there is the whining, name calling defeatist venting.
Use these forums to spread urgency, information and ways to fight back.
what do you suggest, it's a way of venting and trying to figure out what to do.
Join the 24 Hour National Boycott that starts this Friday 2/28/25. See, my comment. Other Plans?
Yes! I've been telling my friends about it and have it marked on my calendar.
Or send $5 to one of those campaigns? https://votefwd.org/
https://volunteerblue.org/partner/blue-wave-postcard-movement/ https://postcardstovoters.org/
Sometimes very good ideas are garnered from the comments. And it keeps us sane
What action items did you take away today. What is your plan?
But you can let off steam, hence the "vent". There then has to be action.
May The Force Be With You.
I made a conscious decision in 2018 to not hate them or him.
what, tell us what you think we should do... I'm in.
1. Organize a protest. Pick a topic. Musk is a good one.
2. Write and call your congress person. Every day.
3. Talk to people (friends, family) about getting involved.
4. Tell people to wake up. We are in a coup.
5. Go to school board meetings.
6. Support you Library.
Stop reading mainstream stuff so much. I can give you a list of fabulous sources of great information and patriotism in fighting back.
You were just waitin' for the question weren't ya . . . ;-)

Salute My Friend
May God Be The LIGHT by which you Walk.
This is so eloquently written. Thank you.
We fight to the end.
And may God be The LIGHT by which you walk as well.
At first knowing we are on our own is frightening but then it morphs into anger and determination.
Absolutely! They are waiting for us to give up and give in.
We will prevail.
I couldn't agree more.
If you have any ideas, I would be very happy to learn what they are.
I can tell you what I did:
1. Purchased more firearms and ammo
2. Formed a Discord communications and defense group with like-minded friends and family
Ongoing:
3. Train and prepare
4. When the opportunity presents itself, then resist.

“… orange hued puff-ball of repugnance.” Perfect. Well done.
Can you honestly tell me what good clever name calling does in a coup d'etat against the United States? The time for name calling and "venting" is over folks.
Get busy. Get involved. Fight back.
Ridicule, if publicized, can be an effective weapon.
Question: if 45 were removed via the 25th Amendment, would he be subject to prison for his January 6and documents crimes?
JennSH: The prosecution would need to prove that the crimes committed were not part of DJT’s official duties based on the Supreme Court ruling. Hopefully the evidence has not been destroyed
As the crimes were connected to getting DT elected the first time it’s hard to think they were “official duties.”
My unconditional sympathy remains with Ukraine and my sorrow at this U.S. collusion through kompromat. As an American I hang my head in shame with respect to Ukraine:
2014 = appeasement; 😳
2022 = Dithering; 😢 and,
2025 = TREASON. 🤢

I like. your metaphors.
RTN totally agree I’m hoping he disappears in the next couple of
Months. Only to end up behind bars
Magical thinking won’t bring this about.
He IS compostable.
Exactly
Yikes. Late 1980s. Terrible typo.
Trump has chosen this path as Ukraine continues to resist and sanctions are clearly hurting Russia. I believe Trump will relieve American sanctions, but American corporations will certainly find any investment in Russia too dangerous to follow Trump down that road.
Naw.. American corporations are greedy , run by bastards, they’ll happily invest in Putins Russia
Thanks Kim... The French have found this out at least twice already... The USA firms as well... Friedrich(?) Koch found this out in the 1930s after he set up the Russian Oil Industry for Stalin....
The orange man is such an idiot. Putin plays him. I wouldn’t put it past Putin to prison Trump at any chance you could.
Festering in that brain is vengeance against Zelensky. Look how it simmered against Obama. Soon enough they will probably be joined by Musk.
We can hope that Elon joins them soon... Part of Justin Trudeau's issue with DJT is that during their 1st meeting in 2017, Melania was making 'Google Eyes' at Trudeau... Justin Trudeau is Smart, Tall, Dark, and Handsome... DJT is ?...
None of the above.
True
Yes, the orange demon hates Zelensky because he refused to give him support against Biden. It's all petty grievance.
Senate Republicans, like Wicker, McConnell, Tillis, Cleghorn Kennedy have called Trump a liar.

Here's the letter from Rick Scott.
Dear Mr. Solomon,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the war in Ukraine.
Sincerely,
Rick Scott
United States Senator

We need Dems to hold him to it.

Right. Just like Ernst, he will just follow the lead of the traitor. His words need to be validated with actions.
Do not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Steny Hoyer is still the greatest.
About a decade too late.
No Texans on joint Ukraine committees.
Apparently, Adam Kinzinger, is moving or has moved to Texas to run 🏃🏻♂️for the incumbent occupied TX Senate seat.
Per Ballotpedia, the TX primary deadline is still "pending".
If only they would put their vote behind their voice.
So has Canada and Mexico. The Leaders of both these Countries are taking him to the wood shed.
It is what I love about this page.
Israel's vote should be no surprise. Netanyahu is their Trump. He has turned Israel into an authoritarian state, as Trump is moving to do here.
Apache, when Zelensky said "I need ammunition, not a ride" I cheered.
Hmm...running low on 9mm after the last range day. Must acquire some.
"running low on 9 mm" - you'd have been amused at my brain's scrambling to explain why my eyebrows were raised . . . ;-)
Why do you end every thought with ellipses? Do you have ADHD?
I'd rather give Ukraine's soverign wealth to Petraeus and KKR.

Mitch McConnell - he is on his way out so he has nothing to lose.
Where are the former Presidents? Where?
Those are not TREASON. Stick with that.
Susan Collins has always pretended to be a moderate and always disappoints us in the end 😩
Same. I think office visits are in order to at least disrupt her staff.
I call Collins’ office every day and never get a live person. I call both Washington & Portland, Maine. Over the years, they used to answer the phone sometimes, but now I consistently get a recording. We need a change in DC.
I just leave the message on the recording. I prefer to do that rather than speak with a young person who might cut me off.
See the list I posted above. 22 senate Republicans voted to fund Ukraine.

🙏you are correct
I was thinking about that comment about Fort Knox. He is a cheater & a thief. Should we worry?
Before he gets in we should glue his hands together. Then we should watch what he does with his feet and still worry some. No winn winn here Marlo.
When recently did the good guys in Russia win, did I miss something?
Russia is a different story, unfortunately.
Yes Kazz, Russia is a different story but we'll end up just like them.
If only, our own Republican leaders had the kahunas to correct Trump. Trump has frozen hundreds of millions from almost every state and crickets from both sides of the aisle for the most part.
Under Republican control, the checks and balances in the Constitution are non-existent in Congress and the Courts.
And now Trump has the military under his thumb. Watch out for protest squashing. Stay alert.
Some will say. I have a gun and I know how to use it.
Gov Mills from Maine
Courage in Action
It reminds me of the kind of "parenting" I've often observed during my 40 years in education.
I know he has his own issues in France, but I have long wished for a leader of Macron’s caliber here in the US. He is an awesome leader.
Yes. It is a ray of hope. At the same time, I mourn that the United States, once a beacon of hope, is now on the wrong side of the equation.
And somewhat surprising to hear Merz, a confirmed transatlanticist, speak about Europe moving away from the US, geopolitically speaking, taking the hectoring admonitions of Hegseth, Vance and Trump at face value.
They have to. And they will find they are stronger than they know. Add Canada for sure
This brilliant essay by Dr Timothy Snyder belies the gangster régimes' joint narrative with a depth of knowledge that propaganda and apologias.
https://snyder.substack.com/p/the-reality-of-ukraine ⚖️
🎯
It was rather embarrassing Jan.
I believe the move by the Heritage foundation is fascist. I really like the Bulwark.
Where did I get personal with you?
"Please support Substack writers such Joyce Vance, Ann Teleas, Jen Rubin and many others. " This is berating??
We are in a coup d'etat against the United States of America.

Then collapse my comments.
Lawrence O’Donnell… The Last Word…. on MSNBC is a legitimate source. He tells it like it is. There are some good sources in MSM
With you all the way. What good is MSM when they continue to spin the facts or eliminate them entirely? Boycott anyone and anything that supports Trump, the billionaire oligarchs and project 2025
Don't forget Jim Acosta. Straight shooter white in CNN and even sharper in his own Substack.
I subscribe to all the reality I can afford
Many many substack writers are free. Meidas Touch, Brian Tyler Cohen and all the other podcasters are free. Bluesky is free.
Never has credible information been more accessible.
Agree. We change with the times. It is time to let the corrupted corporate media die.
Lawrence O’Donnell… The Last Word…. on MSNBC is a legitimate source. He tells it like it is. There are some good sources in MSM
Let's not get lost in the weeds. By and large it is no secret a corporate media is oligarch owned, biased and corrupt.
Speaking of O'Donnell. Sad to say he is on the chopping block next in a long parade of firings of the voices of patriotism that formerly worked at mainstream media.
Do you have any formula to keep up with all the good information provided by the people you just mentioned 😵💫.
Today I started at 3 am ET reading HCR letter. 💤💤💤
Remember way above I apologized for breaking into the thread to address the question I had about the legacy media, specifically NYTimes?? The very high number of 'likes' in this part of today's thread has given me the answer . . . quite unequivocally!!
Agree, clear-minded, focused and my first and sometimes only read every morning.
The reckoning and atonement are a long way off. The destruction phase has just barely begun.
MusKKK. Thank You, Marlene.
They get their news from Fox.
I agrees. And they refuse to discuss it I have found. They put their back up to the wall.
Imagine being brought up on THAT fairy tale.
Also, this may be apocryphal— Elon was also the name of his maternal grandfather
Tech reporter Kara Swisher, who has known Elon personally for a long time, says that Elon's wish is to die on Mars. Even he is not rich enough to get to Mars, so he wants the US government to get him there.
Anne, that is money we can spend. All we have to do is strap his ass onto the outside of the rocket and launch him 1-2-3. Voila!
Trump and Musk were both making calls to foreign leaders both before the election and prior to inauguration. I would seriously hope that both Biden and Obama are reaching out to these leaders! Behind the scenes, of course, don't give MAGA any fodder to spin.
“ … how a great nation of people could possibly fall victim to this traitor twice.”
We did not “fall victim.“ The blame lies with the sick majority of our electorate who chose this.
Nobody lives forever.
There's a paywall but you can still read enough. https://readsludge.com/2025/02/24/dccc-scores-massive-palantir-and-spacex-lobbyist-cash-haul/
The abdication of the civic responsibility of both Clintons, Obama, and Harris to step up and speak out is, to use some understatement, disappointing.
We share Senators, Philoctetes. What's your location here?
I remain baffled by this. And outraged.
My opinion of Obama changed forever when he cozied up to trump at Carter's funeral. We must demand more from our leaders. Speeches don't cut it. Action now.
That’s a poor excuse.
We are in a coup.
I felt differently when I saw Obama “cozy up to Trump”. I saw this as strategic. “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer”. I don’t think the others could ever pull this off …. For good reason…
Good point. Thanks.
I don’t believe that Obama “cozied up” to Trump at Carter’s funeral. I think he is able to have pity on the shell of a person that Trump is and was distracting him as one would a child.
I can see that perspective Virginia. Unfortunately, optics matter.
And I should add to this George W. Bush. He might be dumb and a war criminal, but he knows better as well.
Unfathomable and weak.
Not just disappointing, mostly embarrassing.
Your statement is divisive. It is unhelpful. Putin would be pleased.
I know this is a minority view, but I want Trump to saddle himself with nothing but unqualified, incompentent duds.
"It's all on us. And when we do it, when we prevail, we'll need to do a deep clean of our own house, too."
Bravo. Schumer, Jeffries and the old guard have failed us. It is absolutely on us. And when we win we change our Leadership.
She texted me for money for the DNC. I was outraged. The DNC asked why I unsubscribed from their site. I echoed your sentiments.
I can’t verify that the realsludge link you provided is accurate. Please provide a more reputable source of this info.

This is a coup James.
War against who?
Them, who support this. Them who profit from it, them who sits atop of this
You really have to be seriously lacking in strategic thinking when you betray, cut loose your allies.
I am just sick. Heartbroken 💔
Thank you Heather for your calm but disturbing account. I wouldn’t make it without you 🥺
Take action. Now. This is on us. No one is coming to save us. We do this now. Find your action item.
Exactly - ACTION! We can’t just “hope”.
Liberté, égalité, fraternité!
Time to sleep 💤
Call Thom Tillis:
(919) 856-4630
(704) 509-9087
(252) 329-0371
(828) 693-8750
(336) 885-0685
(202) 224-6342
Marlo,
I will be calling Thom Tillis today. I have his phone numbers in my contacts list. I also have Ted Budd’s number and Tim Moore (my House member) number.
The only person who responds in writing is Tillis.
Thank you! We need EVERYONE to make calls to the Republicans.
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/4464791-here-are-the-senate-republicans-who-voted-for-the-ukraine-package/
Thank you. I have been calling every day. If we all call, the job won’t be so monumental.
IMHO this may be Trump's achilles heel. Enough Republicans stand to defend Ukraine to upend him.
Daniel, this is not a country that was a month ago. This is looking more and more like Russia and Hungary. Look at the countries that voted with the US at the UN to condemn Ukraine as the aggressor in the war.
Watch the Ukraine coalition video.
Besides treason, individual Republicans have a lot of other issues with Trump.
We need a full court press. Picket. Sit in.
I see that too Barbara and that gives me hope but that doesn't mean that the damage being done is going to be reversed. The confidence in our country and its leadership are lost internationally, and it would take generations to rebuild, if ever.
Wow, great hope. Way to go
If we don't fight they winn.
Our main focus should be the midterm election, and no, it's not too early to keep an eye on that since they have their plans drawn already with several alternatives . I keep saying, that's the point of no return, that's our Rubicon.
Thanks Barbara for your prolific and right on target comments and replies 😀
I need a few days off from commenting. I did what I could do today. Sort of like my own pep rally :))
Criminals pursue criminality.
Around the world, that’s their commonality.
Putin, Trump, Mohammed bin Salman,
Netanyahu, Milei, Erdogan,
Sisi, Modi, Kim, Xi, Orban
all coddle billionaires, oligarchs,
better to the tune of murder to march.
as schools, hospitals, homes across Ukraine
burn, explode, more dead, more pain.
But to autocrats it’s just a game:
numbers, for them, their stooge Trump,
for all of them profits are never enough.
The law? That was enough. Now the F.B.I.
gets turned into nothing but thug militia guys.
People? Nothing for those without humanity,
for those of only lifelong criminality.
The International Criminal Blues?
You could set that to a heck of a rap beat!!
Is Fox still being shown on US military bases?
It'll be interesting to see if at some point, US troops are directed to fight IN Ukraine - FOR Russia!
And make no mistake, they will be used as cannon fodder with guns in front of them and behind to force them forward. A Soviet tactic still in use.
Exactly. Most soldiers have been trained by the folks that pointed their ire to the Russians, so how many of those folks will they have to clear out? Trump wants his own version of the Wagner group, but he will shake up more than the top brass. Even the Wagner Group defected when they lost the loyalty of their leader.
What government looks like when the leaders are ketamine and amphetamine addicts.
Matilda... Don't forget Evilness, Dementia, and Stunted Emotional Growth....
Your list is too short Apache. Try again 😜
How We Rise Up
"As President Donald Trump and France’s Emmanuel Macron today met in at the White House, American journalists from the Associated Press (AP) were barred from the press conference.
SOLIDARITE' USA!!
Wow, action that matters
🇺🇦
