Cannot have an impact via offering "reason." Or eveninformation. Likely more effective engaging/sharing a different territory in the non-verbal arts. Need to change feelings, not minds.

Well, both, no? I don't think they can actually be separated, though I think we can self-anesthetize certain feelings and keep things mentally separated that are interlocked in nature. I was in college when I decided that Descartes had it wrong, that actually, "I feel therefore I am", but again, it's both. That said, I think that the only thing I can say with seemingly total certainty is "I feel, I experience". I recall my daughter's excitement over her first loose tooth because it was a developmental milestone, but what if your teeth just began falling out without that information? The explanation was part of the emotional experience.

Feelings are essential to our values, and I think propagandistic Republicans have a better handle on that, even if their current "values" are crap. Why do we quote certain leaders? Lincoln, FDR, JFK, MLK, to name a few? While it's complicated, I think it is in part because they eloquently stirred our values, and ideally the better angels of our nature.

Demagoguery is emotional too, and a lot easier. I recall a photo of people crowding together before Trump, with the same hyper-ecstatic gaze and expression of teens greeting the Beatles in the '60s. One man holds a large sign that says "Thank You Lord Jesus for President Trump".

What do we hold dear? Our lives? Our fortunes? Our sacred honor? The fate of our many citizens and our society? We need a more public reality check, soul-searching, and conversation as the water is looking rough ahead.
