Just a minor correction. I despise the guy but “DeSantis has removed all books, literature, from all educational institutions, libraries,…” isn’t a true statement. Some books have been censored, classroom books must be vetted . Let’s not stray from facts, as if we do we chance sounding hyperbolic.

According to news reports, many schools have removed or covered up all books until whenever the authorities get around to supplying a list of approved titles. Teachers and school librarians are threatened with felony charges to enforce this.
Everyone should be aware of the efforts of the American Library Association and its Office of Intellectual Freedom, its Unite Against Book Bans initiative and the associated Freedom to Read Foundation. They are frontline warriors with deep pockets and resources in this fight. Legal challenges and their kind of organized activism don't yield immediate results but they are in it for the long haul. https://www.ala.org/advocacy/fight-censorship?utm_source=ala&utm_medium=topbanner&utm_campaign=redesign
Libraries have been vetted already, and the “spurious” books removed or restricted. Vetting of classroom books is not complete as it’s a slow process. And yes, felony charges have been threatened. Still the “all books” comment is false.
I have two HS English teacher daughters. They both taught in rural areas (both have moved to somewhat less rural) where there was no library, at best books could be ordered from the nearest city that could provide. I thought about how as a child, I loved going to the library and picking up whatever looked interesting.
Both of them have classroom libraries, and I would pick up books at thrift shops and our library book sale to donate. I had to be cautious, I didn't want they to get into trouble by some book that some parent would find objectionable. I still do donate books, much less often, as my rule is I must read it myself, first, to make sure there is no sexuality, no drugs, etc as I don't want them to lose their jobs. At this point, LORD KNOWS what might upset people!
I recently saw a list of the books being banned or removed from school libraries in Florida, and it's mind-boggling. Some of them were books that I read, or was REQUIRED to read, when I was in high school. Others are award-winning novels.
According to PEN America, 40% of the books banned around the country feature characters of color. Fight back!
I know the teachers are threatened with felony charges, but is their belief that they would be held up in court? Are all government institutions polluted in Florida?
I thank you for correcting me. I greatly appreciate you making sure I put out facts, because thus is what I want, and always intend, to do. The news reports I heard were both. Some books were removed, wile others were ‘covered up’ until final decisions were made.
No worries. I’ve been watching all of this closely as my anger level is at about defcon 2. The Miami Herald is a great source for what’s going on down here.
Yes. Hidden behind covers until they can be reviewed by someone he selects to do the reviewing. Here again, one of his ‘sheep’. If a book or books are hidden behind covers, they might as well have been removed.
Something else I forgot to ask in my original writing. What about encyclopedias? Or even the Bible?

Yes, Gail. Thank you for making the correction. I was about to.

This scares the crap out of me.

Again, I greatly appreciate this.

Yes, I used to read that newspaper when I lived in Florida.
He is however wanting questionable books hidden behind a cover in libraries. https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/01/31/florida-hide-books-stop-woke-manatee-county-duval-county-desantis/
