These resources are already being exploited by Canadian and Australian companies (Brunswick and Eclipse, respectively). I wonder if Trump believes that if the US owned Greenland it could turf them out and replace them with American companies.
Today’s letter signals heavy, or heavier, headwinds, blowing from the in-coming president. I want to comment, but need to take a breath and digest. Thank you for your astute observations, which give us time to reflect and prepare for what lies ahead.
I have had trouble for several years determining what was true and what was false or half truths. It’s only gotten worse. Trump is unpredictable; he may mean what he says or may not. The recent claims on the Panama Canal and Greenland are ridiculous; he should know that neither will never happen. But there are other things he should know but apparently doesn’t. He likes to stir the pot, and that’s the intention of much that he says. Today it looks like Musk and Ramaswamy are stirring the pot too. The egos have begun to clash.
What has upset me today is the number of individuals and corporations that are donating sums of a million dollars to the inauguration ceremony. Obviously that is to curry favor and tells us where these people’s allegiance lies and it’s not with the public. Trump’s backing of cryptocurrency is behind some of it. Now who is going to be able to buy into cryptocurrency? The wealthy of course, and the rich will get richer.
The American people made a serious mistake. They bet on Trump to have the interests of the working class and poor to bring down prices among other promises he doesn’t intend to keep. Musk thinks he needs a more qualified pool of employees. Do you think he intends to import them? No, he will find them in China and expand his businesses there. He’s already building another massive Tesla plant there. Who really believes Social Security and Medicare are safe from cuts or restrictions? I’m 79 and much of it won’t affect me, but it will affect my children and grandchildren.
there's a documentary on Netflix about Vince McMahon worth watching. "Mr. McMahon" is a six-part docuseries that chronicles the life of the most powerful man in wrestling history, WWE founder Vince McMahon. Showmanship! Just like Trump. Chilling.
Parallels to Hannah Arendt's philosophy is brilliant! There is SO much historical content to identify the path of the greedy few. It is no surprise to see the beginnings of grifts outside the U.S., especially with so much to be gained by the "first buddy".
Is this wrestling business a distortion of what Coleridge called the 'willing suspension of disbelief'? An innocent form is playing games with small children, making them believe, for the purposes of the game, that you are a terrible monster come to devour them unless they protect themselves or escape you. The key difference, of course, is the child is never harmed and knows this whilst those who vote for Trump are invariably committing an act of self harm (others are also harmed by his insanity). How can we afford four more utterly wasted years when scientists warn that we have now less than a decade to avoid catastrophic climate change?
I believe that “let’s take back Panama and Greenland too,” is an outrageous statement meant to draw attention of us and the media away from the evil things that he actually can do.
Rump is a sputin wannabe. His showmanship threats to take over other countries is like posturing in a wrestling match. He has no respect for the United Nations or NATO, never has. He makes up rules to suit himself as he goes along. He’s a very dangerous person because of his unpredictable nature!
I knew about this connection a long time ago. Trump is a showman and good at it. He learned everything he needed to know with WWE, The Apprentice and the Beauty Contests. All fake, all the time. Then for the money part he was up to his neck in NYC casinos and connections to organized crime as well as money laundering in Panama for the newly created Russian oligarchs. He definitely has connections in Russia. Maybe not directly to Putin but after passing money around through so many shell companies who can figure it out. I have been disappointed that no one has brought this up in the world of pundits. Are they really that dense? Or incapable of doing some simple research? Sometimes I think they just regurgitate what other people are saying and no original work has been done.
All the sycophants waste their money on crap. Now we need to prevail at their own games of flooding the current means of information - podcasts and Substack :) Thank you for yours! Happy New Year all.
Lithium is a great resource in Greenland. My thoughts are that Elon is advising to obtain access to the element for his electric car program among other uses. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0016703798001781

Considering that Trump also wants Canada, that would make sense to me
I shook my head at Trump’s lunacy when I read this letter this morning. It’s even worse in your voice, in the light of day. Yikes!
We’re in for a wild ride for the next four years!

Just hearing Russia and Trump talk about taking over other countries land, some of it ours, is alarming and just wack-a-doodle

I think you seeing the situation very clearly

The effort to look at the Democratic Platform sans platitudes is at hand. My effort to organize one is in the attached. It suffers from insufficient braincells being applied, only mine so far. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/create-a-platform-for-all?r=3m1bs
