TSE has never been so clear. (And he was American...)

Potter's avatar

Dual citizen TS Eliot. Born here though renounced his American citizenship, died in England, a British subject.

Potter's avatar

So? You are not correct. Saying he was an American is not the end of it just because he was born here since he obviously considered or preferred himself to be an English subject and he renounced his American citizenship to do that. Saying he was American born is more correct.

Anne-Louise Luccarini's avatar

OK. More correct. Very important. Goodbye.

Potter's avatar

This really hurts you doesn't it... so sorry.

So is TDS? Totally American and it’s very clear.

''Examining Racism as a Technology, Not a Belief''

One of the most persistent misunderstandings about racist movements is the assumption that their leadership genuinely believes in the mythology they promote. We are often told that Nazism, the Ku Klux Klan, and similar movements arose from sincere convictions about biological superiority. This framing is comforting in a way. It allows us to imagine racism as a tragic error, a misunderstanding of science or history that might have been avoided with better education.

The historical record tells a different story… https://essayx.substack.com/p/examining-racism-as-a-technology

Christine's avatar

eric trump once said his father was not racist because the only color he sees is green.

Michele's avatar

LOL and how true. Greed is certainly green.

Christine's avatar

Will trump be selling those Gold Cards to people from shithole countries? You can bet your bottom dollar he will.

Michele's avatar

If you have the cash....

In other words, strategy, not sincerity.

Thank you very much for posting.

Tom's avatar

This does not mean that individuals don’t hold racist beliefs, but it suggests that even when beliefs are present, the structural and strategic role of racism — as a tool for power — is crucial to grasp. Greatinsight in the essay.

Rachell Maddow had organized an excellent townhall meeting. The guest commentator, a Harvard professor?, in his summarizing comment mentioned that democracy is an answer to people's desire to rule. But for that they must have a coherent moral. I think in addition, the people must share a common knowledge of the history of the country that Professor is providing. The history serves as a piece of sharuned data. Of course more data is necessary such as fundamental economic theories. All these inputs point out America's current problem stems from inadequate education. If we can weather Trump destruction, we must rebuild starting with designing education and Professor should become a panel member.

Gorgeous photo! Rest well! We are all so very grateful for all you do!

Thank you for the calmness of this beautiful photo. Let's all rest well. Then I like this new quote I just learned about: "Wake determined and go to bed satisfied!" I loved your deep discussion with Paul Klugman and hope the two of you will indeed do some joint collaboration and writing on politics and economics!

I share your thoughts, Cathy.

Yes... taking time to ourselves matters! I'm happy you're giving yourself a break!

I just watched when Jimmy Stewart was celebrated at the Kennedy Center in 1983! What an inspiring person (both as an actor and WWII bomber pilot) he was!

Thanks for sharing. Stewart was a mensch. We have come a long way down since that golden era thanks to the magats and their corrupt, greedy liar president.

Steve Brant's avatar

You’re welcome. He made such an impact on my life that when he died I attended the memorial held in his home town of Indiana, PA … which is home to the official Jimmy Stewart Museum.

Absolutely Amazing! Thank you for sharing! I’ve always loved Jimmy Stewart and this is an incredible tribute to him. We’re coming up on “It’s a Wonderful Life” season where it will be played on an endless loop in our house! Happy Holidays!

Steve Brant's avatar

You’re welcome! I’m so happy you enjoyed this!

Steve Brant, thanks so much for your link to Jimmy Stewart! One of the most memorable movies of my [very long] life was Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window", and I'm now inspired to try to find a way to watch it again. It was filmed on McDougall Street in the Village of NYC, one block from where I lived for a few months as a 19 year old. And Jimmy dated a woman from my home town in western PA. Loved him as an actor!

Steve Brant's avatar

You’re welcome. And wow… what a story! I know he was from Western PA. I went to the memorial his home town of Indiana, PA held for him. The official Jimmy Stewart Museum is there too!

Steve, I just watched a 17-minute YouTube (I think) video of significant clips from the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmojcyKD9S0

Sheriff, I got a massive recharge this afternoon, a gift in the mail today, receiving a copy of Walter Isaacson's "The Greatest Sentence Ever Written".

Concise Isaacson chapters on just the 1 word "We", the 2 word phrases "Self Evident" & "Life & Liberty". The inside cover reprints Thomas Jefferson's original draft edited by Ben Franklin & John Adams. That had to feel real, real good to Thomas, 'My 75 words are being edited by John Adams & Ben Franklin'.

I will sleep well tonight.

Bryan, thank you for mentioning this book. I will be putting on it my list (very long).

I bought it last week at Parnassus bookstore in Nashville and read it that afternoon.

Lynn Spann Bowditch's avatar

It's on order at my local library; looking forward to reading it when its my turn (I'm 7th in line). I hadn't been aware of it before - thanks so much for bringing it to my attention.

So, I just realized that HCR's books are available on audible; has anyone here read any of them this way, and if so, how did you like - or not - reading her work this way?

Bryan Sean McKown's avatar

The book is back ordered at my favorite CA local bookstore; my gift came from 2 Colorado folks who considered it a 'must read'.

Rick sender's avatar

, it doesn’t matter whether you respond or not… you’re getting a taste of reality and you should welcome it because everybody outside of this thread and Heathers posts are very happy the way things are going in America right now… trump has a lot do cleaning up Biden’s mess

It is someone like you that gives us all nightmares.

Rick sender's avatar

Because Heather doesn’t provide you reality, but I do… welcome.

this country is on a rocket ship to the Sky right now with Trump at the helm And you should welcome to get away from this post go outside and see that everyone is happy, except for the people here

Thanks for the link, Lynell…perfect song to accompany the pic Heather posted. Looking on the ‘net for the lyrics, I saw that he performed this song in the early 2000’s for the Maharishi’s 91st birthday. Simple, but profound life lesson. ☮️
