People didn’t know this, because they weren’t paying attention. They still aren’t. Maybe they will perk up when the tariffs kick in. I don’t really understand why people who are so ill-informed bother to vote. If they care so little, I wish they would just tune out altogether. Everyone would be better off.
We need to continue to sound the alarm on disinformation and in the next year yelling from the rooftops all things done because of the Democratic leadership under Biden and make sure he and we get the credit that MAGA will try to steal.
One positive effect of this disaster: I'm finally getting some home improvements done because I want to use my savings there before Trump crashes our economy. Two of my neighbors moved to temporary apartments last winter and are having their houses totally renovated and solar energized. They will have Trump-proofed their domiciles as much as humanly possible by inauguration day, when the Trump tariffs kick in and building material prices skyrocket. If I hit a lottery in the coming months, I will follow their examples and go full renovation; meanwhile, looking into home prices outside the US.
Facts? Who needs facts? Just swallow the alternate facts spread through social media. Want news? Just read what your Facebook friends are writing. As usual, some of us count on the truth that you provide. The question is, "How do you present these facts in a way that the public will attend to?" People pay attention to the number of press conferences. They focus on the decline in Biden's last year or 2 and fail to see worse decline in Trump. He presents strong and confident in lies; his decline is of the type most people don't recognize. They hear and remember the key points he makes despite the content or truth of what he says. Biden's speech is eloquent and full of the accomplishments of his administration. Now, he may not have written the speech himself, but I suspect he delivered it much like the State of the Union speech-confidently and clearly. It was written by someone who knew the facts, or by Biden at 11:00 AM. His staff failed him by not forcefully encouraging him not to run again.
OK, I love Heather dearly, especially when we deep dive into American history.
BUT, the cheerleading for Biden has got to stop. Yes the economic statistics look great, but they are an abstraction to most voters, especially the low propensity voters Trump scooped up to win the election.
Here’s what I saw:
LPV: The economy is bad; I’m struggling.
Dems: The economy is good; look at the numbers we out up.
LPV: But I was better off under Trump.
Dems: No you weren’t. You have a job and higher wages.
LPV: But inflation! I have to work two jobs.
Dems: There, there, when the Inflation Reduction Act kicks in you'll be fine.
LPV: Screw that! You are talking down to me, again. I’m going for Trump.
Dems: But democracy; and Oprah.
LPV: But my family. You don’t care about me. I’m voting Trump.
This is what gas lighting looks like. If the Dems don’t stop it, they will never win another election.
I am deeply disturbed that you have switched to an audio column. Even with hearing aids I have trouble understanding and processing the audio. Why don't you switch back to the visual/to be read column or at least you could give me the courtesy of replying to my request with an explanation. This is the 6th time I've written with my request
it was really nice seeing Heather on OPB, The News Hour, Wednesday, Dec 11.
I'd like to know if a transcription of her comments, and all three if possible, is available.
She made three points about the election. The first was about those who "paid little attention to the political news." The next words were spoken quickly. they sounded like "voted 19 points for Donald Trump." are they correct? if no, please correct. If yes, please explain the "19 points" for clarity.
thanks so much. I read your letters everyday and keep copies.
I'm curious about the 16 million jobs: does that number include the 9.4 million that were still not recovered from the 20.4 million lost in the pandemic? If not then it seems to me it is more like 5 million jobs gained. Nothing to sneeze at IF: they are living wage jobs. What percent of these "new" jobs are living wage jobs?
I too have spent my last year pulling money out of my investments and putting it back into my house. I prepaid for materials for the second part of the renovation just in case the Trump tariffs go into effect. We have a pretty good cushion as far as an emergency fund, but who the hell knows how much you will need. We grow a garden, we can and can live pretty cheap, everyone should raise some food even if it’s in containers. Drive junk stay home and save as much as you can. Time to pull back and learn to live with less.
I didn't get any responses from my posting yesterday. Evidently no one on this list caught Heather-Cox on the News Hour, Dec 11, who can possibly clarify her exact wording and meaning.
I'm new to this list. Does Heather-Cox follow it and respond to requests?

Too bad 50% of Americans aren't listening to/watching media that tells the truth about the success of the Biden economy.
We need to continue to sound the alarm on disinformation and in the next year yelling from the rooftops all things done because of the Democratic leadership under Biden and make sure he and we get the credit that MAGA will try to steal.

Could you PLEASE!!! stop sending me a second email every day. I don't need a daily reminder that I subscribe to letters from an American.
Go turn it off in your account. You control that, not LFAA.
