I have no doubt that every country, including ours, has all kinds of special interests working behind the curtain to influence us, against our own best interests, and that has always been the case. It's easier now than years ago, since we are constantly stalked while cruising the Internet, and for those who use social media like Facebook, disinformation abounds. Dark money and special interests do their best to influence what we buy, how we choose healthcare providers, what drugs to buy, what we eat, and who we vote for. I'm not impervious to influence, but I do try to be intelligently informed when making any kind of choice. If you're referring to my comment about Hillary, my point was that she was intelligent, experienced, a proven diplomat, and a well-respected politician, and whatever the Right was trying to paint her with (even if some of it was true), she certainly would have been superior to the maniac that she beat, despite his Electoral College win. We live in a dangerous world, and must be engaged and do our research.
being the strongest democracy in the world we were not just any country. The GOP went after Hillary with a vengeance, with all the propaganda they could muster because they knew what a threat she was to their agenda, (which for those who don't know was to weaken our democracy) Putin gave lessons. Hillary Rodham Clinton was the arch nemesis of the world's worst authoritarians. they knew it. we did not have her back when the worst bullies in our world ganged up on her. we rolled over for the greedy bturds and now look at the mess we've left our children. This is not the horror of our history. this is happening in our time. Understanding how we got TFG is the first step in stopping & preventing it. Democracy's enemies created a "flawed" HRC. anybody who listened to that graduation speech knew full well she was a gift to the world's humanity. we don't just need good public education. we need a free and independent media that educates all of us on ill intentioned influence directed at our minds and how to tell truth from lies or maybe why so many of us don't give a damn.
Christy, I agree with you 100%, and your comments sound like those that I've been making since Bill Clinton was in office. The Republicans (and their supporters, including Putin) were out for her blood before she ever entered the arena as a candidate. The puppeteers were gunning for her since Day One, which should have been a clear signal that they considered her a threat. I greatly admired Hillary, and supported her candidacy. When I heard friends denigrating her, my response was always that she was supremely capable and well qualified, and in my view, the only "flaw" was her obvious discomfort when speaking publicly - she didn't have Bill's charisma. Charisma is overrated, in my opinion.
I'm afraid that you construed my comments as being negative regarding Hillary, but I can assure you that I have grieved for years that she wasn't elected, and instead we got an abomination who has brought our country and the world to the edge of disaster. I am sorry if my comment reflected any other sentiment. In retrospect, I should have put the word flawed in quotes, since I never viewed her as such.
I agree that we need to find a way to curtail the filth that is spewed by much of our media, and I believe that the public's gullibility is attributable to its apathy.
