Barbara, I am of the opinion that key or keys to our fulfilling the dreams of some of our country’s founders, many of our ancestors and quite a number of us today for the success of our governance and governmental system(s) and our Constitution requires many of us like or similar thinkers to educate and motivate those need to be about why we need to pay a bit more attention to our individual obligations for our democracy to not just survive - but also to prosper ... voting is a right and obligation that many have died fighting for here ... and this is what distinguishes us from a lot of other countries around our world. No one here gets a free ride. We all must pay taxes in some form and for those who don’t or can’t governments (federal, states and locals) provide services in some shape or form to help those who find it hard to provide for themselves.
What the Democratic Party has going for itself - especially since the Great Depression - FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, Obama and now Biden!!! People better get over this age thing ... look at the successes the Biden/Harris administration has brought to fruition ... American history will record idiot trump as probably the worst president in our history ... ooopps, [just went to my trusted Google machine] he’s already close to the bottom!!!
That poem is awesome!! I had never read it before, but, just, wow! I like to think I am verse 1, with an element of verse 3. I think of otters, who hold each other's hand whilst they sleep.
She covers a lot of ground in her work and I have enjoyed coming back to her poems from time to time over many years….once even got her autograph in a book of poetry I brought to a book signing in my small college town….years and years ago.
Thanks Barbara, interesting, but her life seems fascinatingly more interesting ... hadn’t heard of her but when I can find some free - non-work time - I’ll spend a bit more time reading about her creativity. Be safe and thanks for the exchanges.

Jim, I often recall this poem by Marge Piercy when I think about true public servants (whatever level) and those who band together for a cause or effort. “To Be Of Use”: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/57673/to-be-of-use

You might enjoy this one from her, the tenor a bit more forceful, about organizing: https://www.historyisaweapon.com/defcon1/piercylowroad.html
