Barbara I AM CONVINCED THAT BIDEN, A GENERATION HENCE, WILL BE IN THE PANTHEON OF GREAT/NEAR GREAT AMERICAN PRESIDENTS.

I have lived under a number of American presidents, starting with FDR for nearly 12 years. I have also, as history professor, taught our presidents for 23 years. C-Span has been helpful in having history and political science professors rank presidents every few years.

The American public has no historical sense of American presidents. Often, in polls, they have no remembrance of all but a few presidents. In my lifetime, two presidents, Truman and Eisenhower, have risen sharply in C-Span rankings. President pundits profess that it takes 20-30 years before presidential rankings become ‘seasoned.’

At an 89-year-old former history professor, I agree with C-Span that Trump is the worst president in American history AND that this will be re-enforced as years pass.

Regarding President Biden, many may say that it is too early to make any determination as to where he will fall in the Pantheon of American Presidents. My hunch is that he will be judged at least among the ‘near greats.’

He took command of a sinking ship of state. Trump’s foreign policy was a decathlon of dreadful missteps. Domestically, he favored the wealthy over the great majority, polarized the country, badly handled America’s most extensive pandemic, and sought to violate the Constitution and engaged in an insidious conspiracy that was on a coup course.

President Biden has swiftly brought the American ship of state back on a highly positive course in foreign affairs and in our ravaged economy. He has also fought for the soul of America against MAGATS who represent all that is destructive in American society.

President Biden is up for re-election in 2024. Were he to win, the American tradition is that American presidents do quite badly in their second terms. Whatever, I am convinced that history will treat President Biden well.

I wholly agree. Biden has been transformative...for the better. It takes far more time to build than to destroy. I believe that is why so many fail to see the transformation from the quickly destructive forces unleashed by Trump and his Republican predecessors, which created the many civic problems we now experience.

Biden took over the equivalent of a major bombing of the White House and the federal government. This destruction was completely intentional and guided by people like Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon. Miller's own relatives said he was seriously dangerous and hated him.

I am sure glad to read this post if yours, Keith. I’m 71, and I too remember a lot if Presidents we’ve had. I would rank President Biden in the top two, or maybe three, right now. But there’s no doubt where I rank Frumpy.

Is there a rank above 💩💩💩💩? Frumpy doesn’t even rank above that!
