To me politics is the art of the possible. Here in Oregon Ds have been stymied in the Senate by Rs walking out to deny a quorum, so nothing gets done. I once pointed out to a friend that his rep was not going back on his campaign promises, but found out that once in the legislature, compromise would prevail. It was a gross sin for me to say this to him and he after that was against anything I said which caused him once to insist that Auschwitz is touristy. As for legislative walkout last session, Oregon voters passed a measure which said that if a pol had 10 or more unexcused absences, they could not run in the next election. The court upheld the measure. They will probably be replaced by people equally as awful, but maybe they won't walk out.

Auschwitz a tourist attraction? I went to see Dachau. I guess I was a tourist, but it was more like visiting the American Cemetery in France. It was to pay respect to those who died in Normandy. The Dachau experience was mind blowing how horribly cruel and sadistic people could be. What was worse was that some of them actually enjoyed it!

He had not been there, but he was busy at that point just sneering. He had seen some pictures after all. I did try to tell him that it was kept as a memorial to those who died and a reminder of what humans are capable of. The energy there was so black and heavy.
